《Sovereign of Divinity》Chapter 13: City lord

“Yes, can I see your papers first?”

“Ah, of course. Here” he said as he handed me his documents. As I was skimming through them, to make sure they were authentic, I said,

“I hope I’m not too much of a bother sir guard. It’s just that there was a conn—man who tried to steal my city-pass, dressed as a guard and flaunting his authority. And when I asked him for his papers, he fled the scene”

“Oh! Where is he? I will catch him now!”

“Oh don’t worry about that right now. I will personally lead you to him later. Right now, I suppose you have come here to arrest illegal immigrants?”

“Yes, we got a tip off from a trusted source, saying that there were four kids who had overstayed their welcome. Therefore, can you show us your city passes?”

“Of course” I said as I returned the authentic papers, and told the rest to remove their city passes.

“Hmm, I can see that you know the rules of the city well enough to be able to ward off a conn-man. But why do you seem so relaxed? You do know these passes are expired right? I’m afraid I will have to arrest you on the charges that you and your friends are illegal immigrants.”

Just at this second another voice came from behind the guard. A rather familiar voice.

“Haha Jon, I will make sure you go to the death rows for the crimes you committed in Taberna, and the violence you did on my poor boy! I will have my revenge today!!”

It was Aplistia, the city lord of Taberna!

“Is this your trusted source?”

“Yes! We cannot ignore the tips from a city lord!”

You must be wondering why the guard is answering all my questions. The answer is also in the capital’s laws; No guard is allowed to lye, or dodge questions from citizens of the Kingdom while on duty, unless ordered to do so from the royal family! And why do I know all these rules? Because another one of my followers in the game was Stich, a rather young fellow, and also a newly instated city guard of the capital. He was so enthusiastic about the laws, that he would drive players mad with his continuous ramblings! But thankfully he left me after the Klyde incident!

“Alright, well then I must enact rule 34 of the capital’s laws on rights of the citizen. Any allegations on a citizen of the kingdom by the city lord of another city, in the capital, without any incriminating evidence will be punishable by either death, or transfer of the city lord’s title. Here is my and my friends’ identity proof. Now I will kill this man right now!” Saying this, I started invoking a converse-fireball, which is a level-3 unique spell I have been working on after the battle with the goblins. The way their bodies were twisted as the firball went through them gave me this inspiration. It is basically two fireball spells, circling in different directions, while one is inside the other. Imagine a baseball being thrown. As it leaves your hand, it spins while travelling forward. Now imagine a smaller baseball spinning the opposite way, and put it inside the first baseball. Lastly, convert the balls to fire balls, and there you go! Creating such a spell alone uses about 10 drops of mana, because I am using 3 spells at once, to keep this level 3 spell active!

Aplistia saw my spell and activated the defence artefact around his neck in a panic.

Seeing him do this I scorned,

“Futile Resistence!”

Saying this, I launched my converse-fireball at him, but the guard screamed “STOP!” as he jumped at my right hand, which was casting the spell. He knew it was too late to stop me, so he just shoved my hand slightly downwards. This changed the path the fireball was going to take. It moved swiftly, but went towards the city-lord’s feet instead, straight into the protection barrier. The barrier instantly crumbled, since it was a level 1 wind barrier. And although wind beats fire element-wise, my level 3 was just too overpowered, in the sense that it can go through almost any other level 2 spell like butter. It can do this only because The outer layer is just like a protection barrier for the one inside, which is about two times more deadly than the one outside.

When the fireball collided with the barrier, a loud crash was heard, and both the barrier, and the outer spell cancelled each other out. The inner one kept its path and hit the city lord’s right foot and blasted it apart!

“Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!” yelled out the city lord as he was in incredible pain, pain that he had never experienced before. Pain that would make him not want to be born.

“The city lord has not chosen death, and therefore you had no right to attack a government official in the capital! You will be imprisoned for an audience with the king, and a trial by the king himself, along with this city lord!” said the guard as he told his men to tend to the city lord.

“Okay,” I said. “Krog and Hein, wait in your rooms and rest up while taking care of Shem, I’ll be back by dinner. Also, get all of these people to the castle as soon as possible. Here are their names and current locations” I said as I passed them a slip of paper.

Both of them were astonished at how calm I was. Although it wasn’t all according to my plan. But anyways, I will get my revenge on this f*cker today! And will return back, no matter what! Plus, I even have mom, who can come and save me if my life was in real danger. I know she has people keeping an eye on me since she left. I could sense that scout hiding near us when we were fighting back at Taberna, and the mage during the caravan. I’m sure she has someone ready for me…

At the college, a few hours later…

“What do you mean you left them alone? I sent you, my only legacy disciple to take care of my children, and you left them alone after entering the city? What if he was turned into a slave? Or worse, if they tried to kill him and that mysterious being came to protect him? His fate would be revealed!!”

“I’m sorry master. But you told me the mission was to ensure their safety until the capital. So I used the teleportation gate from the royal palace to return as quickly as possible.”

“Yes, sister, she is right. You told this adorable brother of yours to keep your children safe till the capital. But now you are screaming at your own student for doing the job you requested to do?”

“Agh, never mind! I’m going there myself!”
