《Restarting life as a peasant》Chapter 3

Few weeks have gone by, and I can tell you how much I liked being away from the fakeness of the modern world and modern people. Manual labor in clean air is nice. And make what you eat be more delicious, but also what I eat already delicious. Most days there is meat on the table, everything tastes good do to not having artificial growth hormones injected to them. While I was thinking those father spoke "Sons come here i have to speak to you." We were in front of our father. He said "Boys, as you know our farm is not big, and not enough to feed three families. One of you can inherit the land but the other two has to find some apprenticeship and learn a job. Tim and Sam looked disappointed. Father "Living as a poor farmer isn't a life you would want to live. I want you boys to have a good life." He raised his hand there were three sticks there "One who pulls the long one inherents the farm" I knew my luck. And I know what is going to happen. So I just pulled one, of course it was a short one. Then Sam pulled one and he started laughing. At that moment Tim's face turned quite dark. I patted his back and said "Don't worry bro, everything going to be fine?" He looked at me with unbelieving eyes. "How can things be fine? I only know farming. What am I going to do? Join the lord’s army? Be someone's farmhand?" That point Sam spoke "Sorry, I didn't mean to laugh '' Tim looked at Sam ``Don't be sorry, father is right, that land can't feed three families. I figure something out"

I wasn't worried because I already knew what to do. There is an old blacksmith on a hill near the village. As far as I know he didn't have an apprentice. I am always fascinated by blacksmithing. Watched videos of those stuff on youtube a lot in my past life. Never tried in real life, until now. I was going to be a village blacksmith.

While climbing the hill I appreciate the beauty of the village. Green gardens, colorful fruit trees, a nice stone church for gods. The blacksmith shop had some distance to the village because of smoke. I knocked on the door, and the old man opened it. I asked him directly, "Master, I want to work for you." The old man had a yellowed white beard and hair. "You know being a blacksmith is hard work. You always smell smoke, look at my beard, it yelloved because of smoke. I had few apprentices before but none of them wanted to work all day in the forge, beating metal so they left." I understand him. But I didn't want to become some farmhand or a rankless soldier, and as far as I know other craftsmen either worked with their sons or already had apprentices. So I said to him "As you know if i want to stay in the village my two options are either this or being a farmhand. I don't want to leave my family. I don't want to go to the city" Nearest city was Baldenburg, and that city was the domain of the Baron Herch, unlike lord Steel he was corrupt to the core, every villager who had to go that town had to pay bribes. They always find a way to take bribes. No thanks, I hated corruption.

Old man Max gave me a good look. And smiled, "Ok kid, come and start tomorrow in the morning." He handed me a key, showed me a broom. "Come early in the morning. I want this shop swept spotless. I said "Ay ay master."
