Struggle#07
Objective: Become the richest
Sub-objective: Nothing illegal
While Samsy was going through his 3rd struggle, one of his friends entered her 7th one. You may think that he is slow, but there is actually a good reason for that.
Anyway, this person is named Naomi, she is a pretty average 17-year-old girl, with dark blue hair and big beautiful green eyes, but she is, in fact, one of the most intelligent person alive among the multiple version of the Earth.
Her inner talent allows her, among other things, to memorize and comprehend any information she encounters. Basically, she has a perfect memory. Inner talent, or i-talent for short, is a rare ability, and it’s usually not that strong. Nonetheless, Samy’s friend are all exceptional in that regards, for instance, they all have at least top athletic physical capability. That’s the reason why Sam didn’t exaggerate saying he was the weakest person of the group.
Back to Naomi, she managed to clear her initial struggle (the struggle#00) in less than a week. She first had to help a merchant to repair his cart, and having solid knowledge in carpentry – actually she have solid knowledge in everything – she made the reparation in a few hours.
After that, they headed towards the nearest city. The journey latest 4 days, during which our genius girl discovered the usage of the flux. Once again, her skills are a cut above Samsy’s, as she learned to create arrows of pure energy in 2 days.
Her mission was to “Survive the attack” and was the reason why she accepted to travel with this unknown man in the first place. Looking back, it was a really bad idea, and as expected, he assaulted her on the 3rd night.
Using a collar that sealed flux usage, and restraining her with superhuman strength, he almost managed to add her to his slave collection. However, as said previously, she is a genius, and she prepared for this kind of eventuality. She stabbed her hidden stroke in his eye and killed him.

That’s how she realized about the twisted side of this game.
The following struggle took place in the middle of an ocean. Nothing thrilling happened, as for anything else, she knows about ships. So with her newly acquired magic, she managed to operate the whole boat by herself. She reached an island and cleared the trial.
In the same way, she cleared all her trial swiftly and skilfully.
All until her 6th struggle.
The stage was simple, just her and another individual. A 30 years looking man wearing a mage robe. He presented himself as the Mage Kunan, and she had to defeat him to move on to the next level.
He was amazingly strong. Each time Naomi used a spell to attack him, he would deflect it and counterattack with an exact copy of the spell she just used. He didn’t just copy spells, he learned them, and as his power was stronger than Naomi’s, each spell could only be used once.
Their duel lasted for days, during which she got partially burned, frozen, cut, pierced and so on. Fortunately, her genius worked better than ever before. She couldn’t use a spell twice? Fine, that is not a problem if your range of spell increase during the fight.
Rain of magic arrow, fire lasers, blade of thunder, sphere of cold, gravity field. Name a spell, she used it. Her reserved of flux wasn’t unlimited, but there was some kind of aura surrounding the arena, allowing them to go all out without getting exhausted. In fact, it looked like the whole stage was made for her to develop her flux abilities, and that worked perfectly.
She did defeat him. In the end, she had used more than a thousand different spells, including tornado, magma splash, and mythical beast invocation. Kunan didn’t die, actually, she didn’t really win, the book said only to defeat Kunan, so the instant he admitted his loss, it was over, even though he still had the upper hand.

They salute each other, and she left.
That how our dear Naomi ended up here, at Wallstreet in the 80s.
Truth to be told, that is underwhelming. After having a death match, earning money is not what you can call a thrilling challenge.
She took out her Questbook.
N: Dear Clarence, I Have An Inquiry.
C: Every-c-g for my cutie (=^·^=)
N: You May Have Seen My Last Struggle On Your Device. Is It A Normal Occurrence?
C: What do you mean? (=^·^=)
N: This Peculiar One Was Above Formidable. I Actually Thought I Would Die.
C: Oh yeah, that was intense :3, but I had 100% trust in you. (=^·^=)/
C: I have no idea ifc-s is normal, but it does happen from time to time that one struggle is way more difficult than the others.
C: Wait a minute, Ic-nk Jules’ protégé had passed the c-xth trial too.
C: Yep, c-ms like your se-c-on have a common hardship! :3
N: A Common Hardship You Say?
C: Yep yep, it means that you will all have a hard time pa-c-ng this stage.
N: Oh…
C: Don’t worry, one of your friends have also passed, I don’t c why any of you wouldn’t make it. (=^·^=)
N: I Appreciate The Positive Thought…
C: Come on Naomi… I can c you right now.
C: You look down, what is happening.
N: I Am Worried Clarence.
C: You are talking about Sam-c? :3 Don’t worry, Val got the whole c-tuation covered!
C: Usuallyshe is rooting for the newbie's death, but c-s time it will be fine :3
N: …
N: Aren’t You Supposed To Reassure Me?
C: Did I say some-c-ng wrong? :3
N: No, It Is Nothing.
N: I Am Tired, I Think I Will Rest Myself.
N: Aurevoir Clarence.
She disconnect from the chat, and put the book back in her back pocket. She knows that worrying won’t help at all, but who can blame her.
After a long sighed, she gathered herself, and went to look for a place to sleep.
The only way she have a chance help him is by moving forwards, and she perfectly understood that.

Dear Spellbook (Link to rewrite in blurb)
A rewrite of this story has been posted here: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/49881/dear-spellbook-a-fantasy-time-loop-rewrite Live. Study. Repeat. Tal is a sorcerer in a world where they are killed on sight, traveling with a man charged with carrying out the task. Every night Tal must pretend to study his spellbook to maintain his disguise as a Wizard’s Apprentice. If his disguise slips and his charade is uncovered, it will be his death. Seeking answers to mysteries that arose after his parent’s murder, Tal must accept any allies, no matter the risks, to uncover his family’s secret. But when he wakes up one morning to find himself trapped repeating the same day, he has to overcome his challenges all on his own. This story is an adaptation of a D&D campaign I ran but never was able to complete. I tried to capture the feel of a table-top RPG session —tropes and humor— without relying on the mechanics. This is not a litRPG or gamelit story and no D&D mechanics or system appear in the game. It follows one member of an adventuring party as he deals with the problems with that arise from being an adventurer. Namely, getting roped into adventures. The story has a time loop element, but will eventually move past that. This story explores the magic systems, the history, and the lore of the world through the lens of Tal's entries in his Spellbook and interludes from other written works in the world. New entries on Mondays Credit to JackOfHearts for the cover.

I broke my mandible, lost my dream, and was almost forced into slavery as a result. That’s when she came into my life, a princess. She had no wings on her back, but the wings inside her were wider than the fairies that roamed the sky. She took me under her wing and populated my life with adventures and mysteries unreserved for a mere harvester. Life was good until we found termites sneaking into our territory. That’s when the adventures ended. She was mocked for calling the termites a threat. However, she remained determined to protect her kingdom, and I, to protect her. No matter the difficulties I remained by her side. Because we were a pair: a princess and her Royal Guard.
