《Not A Fairy Tale》Arc 1 - Chapter 18

POV: Altair Oberon Lyrius

I found myself in a completely white room, or rather a completely white, slightly smoky looking space... Slowly I heaved myself up from the ground, or whatever else I was positioned on. My body was heavy and I had trouble even getting into a sitting position.

What is this place?

"This place is basically your mind," a familiar feminine voice said.

I turned my head as quickly as I could to look at whoever spoke to me. And I saw a woman that could only be described as beautiful. She had long black hair, ashen skin, purple eyes, pale lips and a toned body with large breasts and abs. Parts of her body were hidden behind some of the white smoke that made up the area, although that surrounding her and also making up the throne she sat upon was darker. But the most peculiar thing about her must have been the two large, black horns protruding from her forehead, in the same spots where wood elves had their antlers, and the fact that the white of her eyes was black. I could also see a black tail that she mostly sat on, it seemed a bit like that of a cat with very short fur, just longer, in fact, it might as well be a metre long when it's straight.

"W-Who are you?" I asked, trying to crawl backwards but my body betrayed me and I nearly fell back to the ground completely.

"I am Ira Valdovas, daughter of the first King of Demons, one of the second generation demon rulers who were known as the rulers of sin. Ira the Queen of Wrath!" the woman said with a commanding voice.

"W-What? W-Why are we here, why am I here. What happened?"

Slowly everything hit me again, everything that happened. I leaned over and puked when I thought about the dead body of my mother. About how gruesome it must have been. My body was still shaking when I looked at this Ira.

"Well then, let me explain what is happening. First of all you, or rather we, are still alive. That's good. Second of all, I'm now a permanent resident in this little head of yours... which is filled with interesting things... I don't quite get what that spell is but I think I'll figure it out rather quickly."

"What, why? And what spell?" I was confused, sad and even more confused.

I couldn't make sense of what was happening. In one moment I was happy, in the next I was hunting a bear, in the next, I saw my world burn down and then I fell off a cliff that looked like it was leading to the heavens instead of the ground and now, now I was talking to a practically naked woman that claims she is the daughter of some Demon King and that says we are inside my mind even though it looks like we're sitting in the middle of some clouds...

"I know it makes sense to doubt things now but let's figure it out as we go, shall we? Anyway, to address your questions. As for why: When I died I used an artefact together with my half-siblings to reincarnate myself. As you can probably guess from the fact that you are a reincarnated yourself... it didn't go quite so well. And now I'm stuck in your head and your body received the blessing I worked on for centuries. As for the whole spell thing: I don't know that quite yet... it's a complicated spell that uses a type of mana I have never seen before. But I can assume that it blocks or restricts something. That's all," Ira said, a bit too matter-of-factly for my liking in a situation like this.

...

...

...

It took me a few seconds to take it all in and begin to understand. So there's some spell on me... and it restricts things... I suddenly remembered the few times where my mind seemed to conveniently wander away from things that might trigger a traumatic reaction or when it weakened their impact to the extend nothing happened over the past few years... but how come it doesn't always react? Shouldn't it have blocked everything then?

"It seems to operate in a way where it tries to hide itself, which means sometimes things can still happen... and it seems to become stronger with time... I have no idea how long this spell will last but I can guarantee you that it's temporary... I advise you to prepare for that change since it will hit like a truck." Ira's voice and tone felt empathetic.

I stayed silent.

...

...

...

"How did we survive that fall anyway?" I asked after a while.

"I don't know, I can't really see through your closed eyes," Ira said. "All I can say is that I felt the presence of someone who returned a few hours ago after they left. So they probably saved you..:"

"You can have my body then," I said.

"What?" Ira asked, perplexed by my statement.

"I said you can have my body, do with it as you will, I don't care. I lost everything anyway. Now you told me that my trauma, which I was happy to not have, will hit me like a truck. Thank you, no. I'd rather live my days here where nothing would happen to me until you and my body die," I said coldly.

Ira chuckled.

"Oh honey, it's not that easy... believe me, I tried. But I can't."

"You did it when you wanted to jump off that cliff, which I don't get if you wanted to live, but you took over my body then," I stated.

"Your mind was weakened enough and as you saw it only lasted for minutes, minutes that took a lot of focus from my side. And as long as I have control I can use some of my old powers that you can't use quite yet, that's how I would have survived."

"Then what am I supposed to do?" I asked.

"What do I know? Swear revenge? Kill the ones who did that to you, I don't know," Ira said.

"Oh right, revenge-" By now I had regained control over my body and I stood up, inside my own mind... which totally makes sense... "-and what am I supposed to do about them? I don't even know who they are! Do you know who they were?! Because if not then we're in a bad situation if we want to consider revenge!"

"Now don't be angry at me boy," Ira said.

"Oh, you think I have any control over my emotions right now!? I just fucking lost everything! Everything! And then you come here, tell me that the only reason I could enjoy what I had for the past fourteen years was because of some spell that is only temporary!" I felt a bit exhausted after yelling like that.

"I know, I know. But you now live for the both of us, so let's work together and find something, alright?" Ira said like a caring mother.

I stayed silent for a while longer, taking deep breaths and thinking all the while Ira was looking at me patiently, waiting for an answer I was sure she knew since she knew what I was thinking.

But what would I do... can't I just kill myself? Ira's eyes twitched when I thought that. No... that would probably mean my mental state is bad enough for her to take over anyway... I saw Ira nod. I let out a sigh.

"Fine," I said.

"Perfect! Now we just have to wait for you to wake up..."

"What?"

"Well... you're unconscious... like... a coma you know. You'll probably wake up in a few hours or so."

"Can't you do anything to wake me up?"

"What do you expect me to do? I can't really do a lot outside of talking to you right now. The only thing I know is that someone seems to be watching over you. So at least you'll be safe."

I sighed again.

"Waiting it is then... wait... can't I just, you know, go outside of my mind?"

"..."

"..."

"..."

"..."

"Yes," Ira finally said.

I suddenly felt something pulling on me as everything around me turned pitch black.
