《Battlefield NYC (LitRPG Apocalypse)》Chapter 26: Next Steps

Sophie shook her head; she seemed like she wanted to say something, but she kept staring down at the ground in front of her as if she wasn't able to take her eyes off whatever it was she'd seen—or sensed. "I think we're safe right here," she said quietly, "for now."
"That doesn't make sense!" Jacob protested again, looking back at Lance for confirmation: he hadn't noticed anything in their surroundings yet either, but he didn't fully agree with her.
"Why do you want to stay?" Grace asked Sophie, not unkindly.
The blonde girl shrugged. "Because I'm afraid they're going to find me eventually," she said slowly. It looked like she had more to say, so she just continued, speaking slower than usual while avoiding eye contact with any of them.
"Who is they?" Lance asked. "Someone chasing you?"
Sophie thought. She must have known Lance could hear her with [Mindread], and was trying to hide her reasoning from the others. Still untrusting.
Lance felt like he understood—or at least sympathized with—her situation: if she couldn't trust anyone else, she had no choice than to rely on herself alone.
"We need to get out of this city," Grace said again, "because we can't run from these monsters forever, and these monsters outside are probably going to start killing each other--and us with them--soon."
Sophie nodded slowly. "I don't think they want that, but they might not have any choice in the matter either."
"That means we should get out," Jacob argued. He sounded like he wanted them all to agree with him. "Otherwise we're just as doomed as everyone else is right now!"
Lance frowned, looking over his companions' heads, the pull of the System around him a constant pressure that he couldn't shake. And there was the matter of the presence emanated by the person that he was sure had saved them... it led away from the city.

he thought to himself,
"I vote we escape," Lance said. "Three to one. Sorry, Sophie."
Sophie nodded. She still looked like she didn't really understand what was going on—like they had done something wrong without her knowing about it: why did they want to leave? They were so close! It felt like they'd only just made it to safety before all hell broke loose again.
But even if Lance wasn't ready to give up yet, Sophie seemed resigned to the fact they might soon be forced out of New York and into the unknown once more. That, at least, was the impression Lance got from [Mindread].
"There's going to be unknowns either way," Lance said. "This way, we give ourselves a chance at freedom."

Nature's Companion
Gorm, an old man living in the mountains and forests of the Endless Wilderness for thousands of years, is dying. Not how he wanted to, surrounded by nature, but trapped in a cave with strange carvings all over its walls. When he was transferring his soul into an oak tree to prolong his life, the carvings on the cave walls lit up. This is my first story so feel free to criticize and correct me. English is not my first language, so if you find grammatical or spelling errors inform me. I’ll try to publish 2-3 chapters a week.
8 154Silent Calamity
A night of heavy drinking ends poorly for Ryan when he finds himself waking up in an unfamiliar home the following morning. He has no memory of how he got here, his phone keeps receiving strange messages, and to top it off, the seemingly unassuming neighborhood is revealed to harbor horrific creatures that should have no business existing in reality. Creatures he’s left with no choice but to face head-on. Ryan’s survival will depend on his ability to overcome his fears, adapt to the strange system of his new environment, and grow in power to stay ahead of the rising curve. Along the way, he’ll make allies, clash with enemies—both monsters and human alike—and perhaps even begin to uncover the mysteries of this world and how he came to be here.
8 218Second Life's Game: Hell
(LitRPG/Fantasy) *** Disclaimer: I changed the title of this fiction because I realised that religious people may be offended by it. This fiction is purely intended to entertain and is not based upon any religion. *** What comes after death? The Afterlife. A world split into three layers. Heaven, Nexus and Hell. The Afterlife is harsh, cruel, and sometimes downright unfair, with everything based upon luck. A world with a game system, which enables the residents to level up, and gain special attributes. A tower lies in the middle of it all, named the Core, which provides passage to God, who will bestow on you your greatest desires. Unfortunately, to get to God, one must conquer 27 stages and battle against others wishing to meet him too. Ikite, a young teenager, gets killed by a gang of criminals and reawakens in Hell with a different body and life. As his two new personalities meld into one, he becomes an 'Awakener', someone who has their previous life's personality sharing their mind. However, he realises he has no combat perks, a bad class and a peasant's life in Hell, the lowest layer. At first, he decides on a hardworking, yet peaceful life with his mother, but bad luck wouldn' leave him alone. Forced to journey where he doesn't want to journey, will he overcome his obstacles, change his perspectives, and climb the tower? Or will he sink into the lifeless state, just like many of those around him... Kick back and relax with this book as it's your traditional LitRPG, with a twist or two here and there. New chapter at least every two days (unless previously stated).
