《Authority [Dropped]》Chapter 4

Authors note:
This chapter is more of focusing on answering the established questions that might have built up during the battle of Titus and the rabid dog and for the future chapters' basis thus I decided to delay the magic system of one chapter and prioritize this one first as it will clear up the explaination and will shorten the chapter about the magic system.
Chapter 4: Latter (4).
Titus did not dilly dally on his descent as he knew that there will be danger if he did so. Why? The main problem that Titus thought of was the smell of blood. Also, Titus was not dumb enough to think that transmigrating from a modern world to a fantasy one was this easy. Nor was Titus dumb to not know that other predators are looming around the area and may be attracted by the smell of blood despite him thinking of a plan during that life and earth situation making him even question his own intelligence if he actually was not aware of.
Reaching the foot of the tree the stench of the blood is strong, the reason being Titus having a sensitive nose and is pretty close at the 'crime' scene. However it is mild enough to have a little bit more of leeway in regards to the time Titus has before he will get surrounded by more predators.
When Titus was at the foot of the rabid dogs body, he did not surprisingly vomit nor felt any of the aftereffects of killing a living being. But as Titus used his mind instead of his head, it is just because he 'is' an imp in this world, they are mischievous devils, sprites and is a dark entity by nature, so it was not at all a surprise in the end.

Looking at the body, Titus could still see the long gash from the rabid dogs neck to its belly. Evident of Titus' 'mud plan' was the bulging opening of the wound and it made Titus a bit proud for his calmness and desciveness during the battle.
"Albeit, perhaps I had already accepted this world even before I came here, proven by the fact of my performance in my first ever battle; life at stake." Titus exclaimed under his breath as he concluded the reason of his 'amazing' feat during the event. And Titus also thought that it may be a factor in which he was able to suppress the fear instilled by instincts back there.
Now that the questions in Titus' mind was answered he then proceeded to the task at hand. Titus thought, 'I am sure that I cannot salvage anything from the dogs body as I do not have anything to dismantling the body to begin with. Second is that I am exhausted from the battle that had just ended.'
Titus looked around his surroundings. After a moment of thought, Titus suddenly stick out a finger and spat saliva on it. He then raised his hand and closed his eyes. Feeling a cold sensation from his finger Titus concluded that the direction of the wind was towards the forest which is bad because although the wind is mild and soft it will eventually attract more attention to the blood's smell much faster than he initially calculated.
'I don't have the means to dig a hole and bury the body. I don't have the means, plans nor intention of just 'simply' cleaning the 'crime scene' as the latest dumb idea is just suggesting that I'm stupid. So, the only choice is-' Titus stopped and made haste with his movements.

Even though he just got back down from a tree he decided to climb yet another tree. However Titus chose a much more lush tree than the previous one as he did not want the view of the dead dogs body but instead Titus wanted Vines, the sturdy ones. Agilely climbing the much bigger tree Titus stopped by a thick branch and started searching strong sturdy Vines. As soon as Titus chose his pick, he started unraveling the Vines from the tree branch and let the acquired Vines fall off the tree.
Titus did so, not because he was dumb and damage the Vines, but because he knew that the Vines he chose with the help of his 'Forest' imps instincts will be able to handle the impact and the reason why he let it falling was because it is inconvenient for Titus to carry it during his descent.
Baam* The Vines that hit the ground formed a dust cloud. When the dust cloud started to fade a figure could be seen through it. Precisely, it was Titus. As Titus descent was much faster without the additional weight he quickly arrived right after the Vines hit the ground.
Dragging the thickest of the vines around the closest and sturdiest tree near the river (by mean nearest, it is still long). Titus secured the vine and used the knot specifically used for this types of situations that he learned from 'boy' scouts during the special P.E. Lectures back on earth. Titus did the same with the other Vines as he started connecting the Vines from each other as Titus did not exactly picked them out for its length but sturdiness even if he did the length of one vine is still not enough to cover the distance from the tree to the river not eliminating the need to connect the Vines excluding 'two' that is.
Having that done, Titus brought the end of one vine specifically reserved and tied it to the dead body. Titus then dragged the body at the river bank/shore and connected the last vine there along with the other Vines and pushed the dead body rightfully so after he was done tying the Vines together.
Titus after seeing his piece of work, the rabid dogs body was submerged into he water and the flowing water dragged out the blood out of the body, Titus then proceeded to his final proceedings. Titus gain had gone back to a tree and picked out big leaves and quickly returned to the river.
Titus took the measure of going a little bit upstream to avoid the blood contaminated water and used the big leaves to gather water. The water in hand Titus had gone back to the crime scene and the blood trail which was fading as it got near the river and poured water over them. Titus did so to eliminate the smell and will let the blood dissolve along with the water and let it seep into the ground.
Now that Titus was done of his work he watched his masterpiece, the rabid dogs dead body although diviated from a parallel line rom the tree to a diagonal one it is still slight as the rivers current is not absurdly strong, Titus then realized something and felt like a total idiot.
"I should've dragged the body first near the river before tying it with the vine and that would had just made my work work much easier and I can exert less strength than needed, damn the additional weight of the vine is heavy!"

Mortis Operandi 1- New Hire
Thank you for reading, I have to start with that. The feedback and encouragement from RoyalRoad users helped me finish my book. I left the unedited version up as I worked on editing and making it a little more polished. However the time has come for me to put it on Amazon and hopefully let other people read the story. If you have Kindle unlimited you should be able to read the story there. If you just want to order an ebook version you can do that as well. I should have a paperback version coming up. https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B07T46B4NM Again thank you for reading and helping me on this journey. It hasn't ended however, my second book which I'm hoping to do well enough that reading the first isn't completely necessary, is still being worked on here, https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/24562/mortis-operandi-2--terms-and-conditions . Any feedback, comments, even critism is welcome as I work on giving you the best version of my story. I'll leave the first two chapters up here, unless Amazon says otherwise. There should be enough differences to avoid issues though. THANK YOU! Thank you! thank you! __________________________________ Adventurers enter dungeons every day. A Cleric's Life for me.
This is a casually written story loosely based on TTRPG games like DnD and Pathfinder. The attempt of the story is to have a slow growth in power and comical set of characters who eventually grow close and set off for more serious adventures. There will be plenty of familiars and funny tales that don't involve combat. The intention is not to be a goody-two-shoes cleric story where nothing bad happens. The intention for this story was a slow paced grungy story where everything seemed great at first and things just kept getting worse. I learned how shitty of a story that is to write and honestly I am just not good enough to get the idea down. I plan on revisiting it later.
