《The Demon Child - Awakening》Chapter 26 - Accident

'Everyone, things have gone out of hand, start the assault! Off,' I quickly thought, I put all my attention to the chimera.
The chimera didn't wait and bolted straight at me. I didn't see the assault until the last second, I dodged, only able to avoid most of the attack, it still hardly grazed my left shoulder. I screamed in pain and looked at I could see the bone, which quickly healed.
'Dammit, I need to end this quick,' I thought.
Looking to where the chimera was, I created two icicles in my right hand since my left shoulder was still healing. I began to while, creating noise so that the monster would focus on me. After the chimera saw me and we locked eyes, it snarled and bolted towards me again.
I threw the two icicles aiming for the Chimeras head. Not noticing the projectiles, one of them was lucky and penetrated the Chimeras left eye. It backed away yelping in pain. Not waiting for a chance for it to recover, I created another icicle and ran towards the chimera who was still in shock.
After dashing to its right side, I got close enough to stab the icicle to the Chimeras right eye, pushing it in far enough that blood spurted out of the eye socket. I then used my tail to hit the chimera on the head, making it drop to the floor, and I used the momentum to get at a safe distance.
As the chimera was struggling in even more pain, I took this chance to rethink my plan. Around half a minute later, I figured out my plan. I summoned my incarnate weapon, this time it appeared as a longsword with a dark blue handle.
I gripped my sword with two hands and ran at the now blind chimera, or that's what it wanted me to think. I was about to finish the chimera with a quick slive, but it hit me with its snake tail. When my extra limb made contact, I felt a crack in all of my ribs, quickly numbing them until I could handle the pain.
I collided with the wall, and scratched my head, looking at the wolf again, as it was sniffing around for me, poking its tongue out from time to time. Looking at the chimera and back what Gener explained about it.
It was a Chimera of a dire wolf and a death snake, giving the beast both of their features. Snakes were able to sense objects that have heat with their tongues, meaning it could see me still, not to mention the overpowering smell of a dog. I moved back again, but the chimera did not wait for me.

It charged at me at an even faster speed, I tried to dodge, but again I failed. My left hand was amputated due to the attack, and I began to leave a bloody trail. So I kept jumping back until I reached the roof of a nearby stable, grasping my left arm and screaming due to the pain, something which probably woke the guards.
Jumping higher onto a small lookout tower, focused on my wound and froze it, stopping the bleeding, concentrating on it more, it soon became a stump thanks to my source of darkness. This was the first time I had regenerated an entire limb before, and it hurt like hell.
After the pain subsided and laid down my sword, I only had one shot at this, and I had to use my complete sacrifice, something which could kill me in the process. On my chest were probably litres of chimera blood from when I shoved the icicle into its skull. Dabbing some off with my right hand and started to create a spell, the only spell which I memorized off by heart.
"May thy souls intertwine within what we called death, may thou feel what thy is thought, may thou lives become one with what we called a soul, for that blood that I have given and you have given may it be enough of each other's, be connected until death do us, part," I said.
Afterwards, my vision also subsided; all I could see was darkness. The spell had worked correctly, I connected myself with the chimera entirely, all senses and damage. There was only one thing left to do now, commit suicide.
If I am somehow revived, I would no longer be connected with the chimera, may that be from my team, Jododam or I just wake up. I felt around for my sword until I found the blade. Moving my hand up and down, I finally found the hilt and picked it up, with my right hand, gripping it tightly.
Shivering with fear, I questioned what could happen would I go back to Antrite?, or would I die? It was unknown to me. I felt around the tip of the blade right until I found my chest. Now shivering with even more fear, I cry to cry, but then again, there was someone who I wanted to see.
I wanted to see my mother, wanting to say the words she didn't finish. I wanted to see her face, her smile, her embrace, I wanted what was lost to me all due to a single demon, I just wanted it BACK!

I put the tip of my sword to my chest and was ready to push it in; I remembered what has happened, what freinds and the times had as Dyestral and Dynestar. With one final goodbye, I was ready.
I pierced my skin and felt the sword on the other side of me. My vision was flooded with white, and I had to blink a few times. After I recovered from the sudden brightness, it seems like I was in another white room. Was this the afterlife? My first thought it would be more appealing. My second thought was wondering if anyone else was there.
"Hello! Is anyone there?" I yelled out into the white void.
"Well, I'm here," An unknown female voice from behind me replied.
I turned around to see that there was a woman behind me. She had dark skin, pointy ears, white hair and lavender eyes. She had a dark leather corset with black thigh-high boots and gloves.
"A-are you death?" I asked the woman, pointed at her with my left index finger.
"Hahahaha, No," The woman chuckled shaking her head.
"Am I alive?" I said while looking around.
"It depends on how you look at it,"
"Where did you come from?"
"From Kirigaya,"
I was confused; how did she know about Kirigaya. I decided to ask a few more questions.
"Are you an elf?" I continued.
"No! I am a dark elf,"
"A dark elf? I remember reading only about elves, so what are you?"
"It's when a demon and an elf have a child, sporadic but very exceptional,"
"B-but that should be impossible, how old are you?"
"Ten-thousand years," She said with a calm tone.
"Only when you were alive?" I stuttered.
"No, I was only... three hundred and seventy-eight when I died during the four legion war, or better known as the ten thousand year war, wow, it's been twenty thousand years since that war started,"
"Wow, you must've been very bored inside of me,"
"Not really, you're a fascinating boy, Dynestar,"
"I remember that before you said that you were born from a demon and an elf, how is that possible?"
"The five great races, Beasteal, Human, Demon, Dragonoids, and even Spirits surprisingly can all have a child with each other,"
"But there wasn't anything in the textbooks I've read,"
"That's because everything was erased in ten-thousand years,"
"B-but that wouldn't make any sense, it doesn't,"
"It seems that Drundon and his Spirits meddled around again after Kirigaya committed mass extinction, but that would be hard to explain to you, half-demon,"
"Can you simply tell me?"
"Can't think of a simple way right now, sorry." She smiled.
I was inevitably confused at that point, so I decided to ask her about some more questions.
"Why were you put inside of me?"
"Because of you being half-demon like me and the luck of the draw with Kirigaya,"
"Could you tell me how to become stronger?"
"No, you'll be getting a lot more information soon, and I can help you now,"
"How?"
"I'll share some of my memories with you, memories of when I was in the war and was the leader of a hit squad."
The dark elf snapped her fingers, and my mind was flooded with new information that made it feel like I just remembered something. My legs lost their strength, and I crumbled to the ground. I tried to vomit, but nothing would come out, probably because I was dead in a sense.
"To gain more power, you have to experience a tremendous about of pain, enough to make your hair go white, like mine," The elf continued.
"How can I?"
"You will have to experience a severe amount of pain; this will release your curse on your back, right now it's at its fourth stage when you died, you will have to be tortured to make it become the third stage, it will also spread to your entire body when it happens,"
"I don't care about looks; I'll just become stronger!" I slammed my fists into the white floor.
"Understandable, but it looks like your regaining consciousness, it seems like this will be my final day, I'll now be able to move onto the afterlife,"
"WAIT! Before you go, can I ask for your name?"
"It is Shinri; it means forest in an ancient language, dead to your society."
"I see thank you Shiri,"
"You are welcome, Dyne,"
I blinked, and I was transported from the white room to a musty dungeon. I was chained up, so I scanned the area and realized that I was captured by Gener, who would like some information. Looking around, there were rusted torture materials. It seems like I would be getting stronger before I even knew it.

Vast Asleep
The story of Kingard the Binder in the aftermath of Broken This short story is the epilogue of Broken, the second book of the Chronicles of Mother's Gate series. It’s a great follow-up to the novel, a bonus story that adds extra layers but is set apart from the full-length narrative. Vast Asleep follows the story of Kingard, who finds himself caught in a world called Mother's realm, bathed in glowing light but strangely stuck in place. He encounters his greatson Varyan there, and learns that his experiences are likely dreams. As he grows more accustomed to the loving realm around him, Kingard remembers fear and trepidation about the face of the world, and he loses contact with his companion. This story answers the question, Is Kingard really dead? with a tentative no, and new mysteries brewing. It also raises the question, What's happening while he's awake? and includes an excerpt from the sister story Ride Awake, about Kingard's situation with the Colkh'rak. Praise for Tales of the Known World Bookends: Loved it. The difference between the two stories is great! The difference between the epilogue and prologue is astounding. So much light and love in the first story. You feel safe reading it. Healing. The second, so much darkness, pain and despair. The choice of vocabulary is awesome and makes an impact. And this set of short stories ties the two books together so well. -- Dana V. of Texas ★★★★★
