《The Demon Child - Awakening》Chapter 13 - School

For the next week, I only focused on improving my elf eyes; I was able to train it to the point when I could activate it by willpower alone. I had also befriended Rowan, now making him my first friend in my new life. Even though he was physically weak, his rare source of time, was powerful. Rowan has also read every page of the 'human forms' and has five different abilities, although he didn't tell me what those abilities were.
Due to some 'safety precautions', Jododam had to change my name, like the rest of the children. Instead of 'Dyne' it was 'Dyestral Copper', I had to agree; otherwise I couldn't go to school, although I could see why, since Lance is going to Dence high as well. Jododam said that if Lance figured out that I was Dyne, he would be trained a soldier, not a student.
Now since Jododam had me on a leash as he could quickly tell Lance, I had to be careful. I was waiting outside the household, waiting for Jododam to say to us what would happen. Everyone was there, and Rowan was next to me, everyone was cheerful, but I was nervous.
After waiting for about two minutes, ten pure white carriages appeared out of view, with golden details and pure black horses. Jododam then emerged from the shadows of one of the wagons and stood in the shimmering sunlight. Not questioning about any vampire rumours, I listened carefully to what he said.
"Every carriage here is supposed to hold three people, not including the coachman. These will be your accommodated groups here and back," Jododam declared. " I will now read out the groups after I call your name, get on a carriage. Group one: Dyestral Copper, Rowan Baki and Luke Bridgestone."
It was good to have Rowan by my side since he was my only friend, but Luke was a whole other story. I've already killed him once, and he was pissed about that, if I were with him for the carriage ride, we'd be ripping out each other's throat halfway through the trip. Not questioning Jododam's authority, I jumped on a carriage with Rowan and Luke.
It was beautiful inside; there were three seats, one on each side of the wall which we could sit in. In the middle, there was a glazed wooden table with small snacks on it. As the three of us got inside and took our seats, the door closed, and the carriage began to move.

We all began to do our own thing, I was meditating, Luke was sharpening his incarnate weapon, which I believed didn't work, and Rowan was reading a book. After about five minutes of complete silence, Luke started talking.
"Hm, knowing my authority, I'll be placed in first class," Luke smirked.
There are five different classes in our grade; all it is based on is our various academics, that was it. We were already told our classes, but it seems that Luke forgot because he was in the fifth class, the dumbest class.
"Um Luke, we were all informed of each other's classes, I'm in the first class, Dyestrals in the third class, and you're in the fifth class," Rowan replied to Luke.
"You're lying, I'm in the first class, no doubt about it."
"We'll see about that" I replied to Luke.
By how flustered Luke was with the conversation. I could see the anger in his eyes, him wanting to smite me, but I stopped him by leaking my aura, making a chill in the air. He felt the cold and realized what was happening, so he sat down and pouted.
Luke picked up a club sandwich from the table and shoved it in his face, not making eye contact with neither Rowan nor Myself. After Luke helped himself to three of four club sandwiches, I helped myself to one of them. After I grabbed one, Rowan followed soon after and grabbed one as well.
"Why are you scoffing down my food?!" Luke yelled at me.
"It's not your food, Jododam put these snacks here for all of us to eat," I yelled back at him.
"Liar,"
"Shut it, unless you want to face Jododam directly." Luke fell silent again.
Another five minutes passed, and the carriage stopped, the door opened. Rowan got out first, then Luke, then myself. I could see that everyone here was either; a noble, royalty or representatives of different countries. I was shocked at the sheer amount of students, but I was able to stay calm and made my way to my homeroom. We did all classes in homeroom, only a few expectations like physical education and source practise were outside, it was way different than my school.
I made my way off to room eighteen, by counting the room's throughout the different hallways, it was quite easy to find the classroom. I opened the door to see that I was the first one to arrive. The seating was weirdly planned, two entrances between three connected parts of wooden tables going down. I take my place halfway from the door and halfway to the teacher's desk. Since no one was there, I decided to do Alicia's training.

I closed my eyes and focused on my source of darkness, just controlling a small amount of it would grant me some power. I meditated for about twenty minutes before one of the doors were opened again, and I heard someone falling down the stairs.
"Pathetic," A voice laughed from the outside the classroom.
I lost my concentration, so I opened my eyes and began to turn my head.
"For someone who is from the slums who made it here, you're pathetic," The same voice said.
I looked to who fell down the stairs and saw a very familiar face. Lance was the person, with blood dripping out of his mouth. I looked to who else to entered filled with a cruel rage. A blond-haired girl started to make her way towards Lance, by what I guessed, she had begun the beating.
"You should know your place scum, underneath my foot," The girl smirked at Lance before kicking him in the face hard.
Halfway across the room, I heard a crack around Lance's face, which angered me. I had enough, and created an icicle, activated my elf eyes and threw it towards the girls head. She dodged it quickly and started to look at me with daggers in her eyes.
"Stay away from him," I asked the girl menacingly.
"Oh, is this, your friend?" The girl responded, cracking her knuckles, "Because I'll beat you to a pulp as well,"
"No, but this is the first day, and you're already making enemies,"
"What are you gonna do about it?"
"I could tell the teachers, fight you, or mind my own business and wait for class to start. Those are my options,"
"Tch, I know the consequences, see you around, ice boy and peasant."
The girl left and slammed the door on her way out. Now came the hard part, not thinking about the past, because Lance would then realize who I was, and his entire life would be ruined. I made my way to him and raised out my left hand, he looked at it and grabbed it, lifting himself.
Looking closer, I noticed bruising across his body and a ruffled uniform. Whatever that girl did to him, was a surprise attack and she didn't let up, as his incarnate weapon wasn't out. I was about cry, but I stopped myself, freezing my tear ducts shut until I calmed down, which only took a moment.
"Thank you, my name is Lance, I am a commoner from Daishin, a trading town half a weeks carriage ride from Onsice," Lance greeted me.
"Nice to meet you, I am Dyestral Copper of the Keneros city, nice to meet you" I replied to Lance.
"Never heard of Keneros? Where is it?"
"It's a year's sail to the west, with raging torrents surrounding it, but to the east, only three months travel,"
"That is a long and troublesome journey, but thank you for helping me out," He bowed.
"No worries let me help you."
I put my hands on Lance's chest and began to heal him with my sources. Ice and air had slight healing capabilities without a healing aura or source, I couldn't take away all the damage, but I healed most of the damage and numbed the pain. After fixing his uniform, Lance looked good, and the bruises looked much better, he stood up and thanked me.
"Thank's Dystral, see you at lunch," Lance said before leaving.
"Lance, what class are you in?"
"I'm in classroom nineteen, also known as class 2 for our year, why?"
"I'm just wondering, I'll see you at lunch."
Lance then closed the door and left the classroom; I was then left with my thought's again. I looked at the clock, and there were about ten minutes left before class started. After a short time, students began to come into the classroom. I retook my seat and waited for the day to start, and something exciting to happen.

Ars Magica
Our vision comes back into focus. Our eyes, while being able to perceive the immediate surroundings, still leave us with our minds uncomprehending towards what is actually occurring. Sure, there are definitive things that we can focus on, like the fact that we're either out upon the open sea or the open ocean, there not being much of a difference with no land in sight, as well as the fact that we appear to be upon a haphazardly constructed metal boat, whose seams are barely able to keep a hold of themselves in the crashing waves. However, that does not let us understand what exactly is causing the waves in the first place. If we were to rewind time, we'd find ourselves upon a calm sea under a peaceful sky with the only difference, being a small whirlpool that would be the precursor towards this uproar around the boat. Lightning flashes in the sky, with no clouds being near, and anyone actually manning the boat has either died towards the cause of the smashing tides in the first place, or are fighting amongst the flashes of lightning, all while trying not to become devoured, demolished, and utterly decimated by the beast roiling in the whirling waves. To better understand exactly what is happening here, there is one singular event that needs to be understood, that needs to be explained, and that is the arrival of a creature named Dave. Stepping back from current events and going towards this creature's first appearance in the world, we begin to hear the sound of water slowly dripping across rocky ground. The cavern is utterly silent except for this one constant, its cause feeding channels downwards, sloping towards cracks in the rubble along the floor from broken stalagmites and stalactites. And there, lying on top of something which had fallen over recently, judging from its cracks, is a person, the creature named Dave. His form is fast asleep, either from the impact or from an intoxication, judging from the smell upon its breath. A bright light suffuses into it for a second, giving life towards the pale skin, before it slowly dies down back to the comfortable black of the cave that it's within. Before this moment in time, Dave did not exist in the physical world. At least, not in the reality that he finds himself born into. We do not know whether or not his existence is simply a cosmic joke, or something that is being played out on purpose. All that we do know, is that one moment, the body was not in the cave, and simply formed in the next. The actual earliest time that we know Dave exists, is the interpolation of the memories of J-209, which we'll begin looking into shortly to gain context towards the coming narrative that is being written and hastily trying to keep itself written. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Warning: This story has several things which might turn its readers away. The first is that this story has shifting points of perspective. Don't worry about that previous sentence too much though, as the main character will always have a first person perspective associated with them. However, any other character from which we're viewing the story from will either be in third-person, as we are not necessarily in their shoes at the moment, or in first person, given that the narrator is an actual physical presence within the story. For the most part, chapters will be self-contained with their perspectives, so there will not be an abundance of switching perspectives within the same chapter. The most that an average reader would have to worry about is the fact that perspectives can switch between chapters. The second thing is that the main character is a bit on the 'special' side of things. He's not exactly mentally there most of the time, so there will be some times that his personality or his thoughts do not actively align with his actions. The third, and final thing of importance, is the fact that past the first couple of chapters, nothing has been planned in advance. There are arcs and plots that I want to do, want to implement, or have already been set into motion from our main character's introduction to the world, but the method that I use for my story writing and generating leads towards a bit more random chance being enabled. Basically...there's a lot of dice rolling behind the scenes. To not complicate the story further than its regular LitRPG elements, the rolls will not be publicly available. However, there will be knowledge within the author's notes on whether or not there were positive or negative critical rolls that had occurred within the chapter. You have been warned. Updates: Mondays & Fridays (Schedule permitting) Typical Chapter Length: (2,000-3,000)

Two Existentialists | S.R.
"How many existentialists does it take to screw a lightbulb?" Spencer asked with a small laugh. Once again the room was silent. You faintly heard Agent Rossi mutter, "Don't.""2. One to change the light bulb and one to observe how it symbolizes an incandescent beacon of subjectivity in a netherworld of cosmic nothingness," he said. The room was silent still, until you laughed. His eyes looked up at yours in confusion. "Wouldn't they sit in the dark and hope that the bulb decided to light again? An existentialist would never change the bulb. He would allow the darkness to exist," you questioned.-#1 #spencerreid#1 #mgg#1 emilyprentiss
