《The Demon Child - Awakening》Chapter 12 - Elf

For the next two weeks, I did the same thing every day; breakfast, training with Alicia, and then lunch. The rest of the day, I either sparred, read history books, or fought people who didn't like me. Afterwards, I fell asleep every night, I battled with Ren, but he never used that golem technique on me again, which I found strange.

It was so powerful, and after facing it, I felt stronger, even though it hurt, it strengthened my overall source flow, as seen when I froze my bruises. I was still able to get a result while fighting him, only to a lower capacity.

Only a week was left before the first term at my school started; it seemed that everyone that was participating in this experiment went to Dence High. I wasn't happy, but I was glad that I would be able to see Lance soon.

He was also going to Dence since he was good at everything; they believed he had the making of a soldier within the king's army. As much as I didn't like the idea of Lance going to war, I was still happy that he is going only where only a handful of poor people have gone before.

Seven days before school, I decided to enter the library and saw that the small boy I sat next to on the first day at dinner, was reading as well. I completely ignored him and entered the history section like I always do. It was a passion to learn about past wars and people. I put a book I borrowed back yesterday and searched for another one. After a while, I heard a 'thud' behind me. Looking towards the sound, I saw that a book had dropped from somewhere.

I picked up the book and looked at the title, 'the sub-forms of humanity' it read. It looked about a thousand pages long, and was covered with a thick layer of dust, underneath was a dark blue leather. I laid on one of the bookshelves and began to read.

'Once upon a time, there were five races; Demons, Dragonoids, Spirits, Beasteals, and Humans. The humans ruled over most of Antrite. From the forests to the islands to the caves, you could almost find a human colony anywhere. But they weren't all the same. Abilities formed over time, allowing them to adapt from anywhere, in ancient history, they were called, sub-forms,'

Confused about what I just read, I flicked through the book to a random page number, I landed on page fifty-seven and looked at it. The title was 'Elf', and I started to read again.

'Elf's are the human colonies that adapted to live within the forests; they had a strong connection to their environment. The physical differences between the elves and humans consisted of many different things. Elves had pointy ears, better eyesight, and were usually lighter and slimmer than a regular human. Every Elfelf had a source of life; they were beneficial as healers and powerful archers. To keep the forests safe, elves adapted not to have a fire source; this is due to years of bonding within the forest. If an elf were found with a source of fire, the public execution of said Elfelf would happen,'

I thought that was quite harsh to do to a person; no one can control what source you have; it all depends on your family tree. I was about to keep reading when I heard someone say "Strange," to the right of me. I turned my head and saw that the small boy was walking towards me.

"I have never gotten a tail when I read the book," The boy said creepily, his eyes looking soulless.

I was extremely shocked to find that the boy could see my tail. The only other person who could see my tail when I'm awake was Jododam. Surprised as I was, I summoned my incarnate weapon, which appeared as a long scythe this time. By the time I was ready to attack, the boy had stopped moving and was standing, about ten metres in front of me. In fact… everything seemed to stop altogether.

I looked at my right hand, which had the book to notice some colour had drifted away from both of them. I dropped the book, and it just floated there, not falling to the floor. I shifted my gaze towards the boy, as I suspected him of being the person behind all this, turns out I was right.

"Oh my, I'm sorry for my host's rudeness," A voice echoed throughout the library.

"Who's there?" I answered to the voice.

"Oh my, now I have been quite rude. Allow me to introduce myself,"

Two clock hands appeared between the boy and me, growing larger by the second. It was about two metres long before it stopped growing, the sides then started to move and glow a bright blue. After a blinding blue light, what stood there was a spirit with an orange tint.

The body of a man with orange spirals across his body, which was also floating. The spirit stopped floating and looked down of me, bowing slightly before speaking.

"Greeting's, I am the former time lord spirit who served under lord Drundon. You may call me Kirigaya."

A former time spirit lord, by what I knew about them, they served underneath Drundon directly, and unlike the other spirits, they were only bound to their element, not a piece of land. To keep myself alive, I bowed at once towards him.

"No need to bow child, I did say that I was a 'former' time lord spirit,"

"Former time lord spirit?"

"Yes, I was stripped from my title when I did something unimaginable."

"What was that?" I tilted my head slightly to the right.

"I wrote that book you were holding, but is now stationed in midair,"

So, a former spirit was stripped from his title just because he wrote a book. I thought that something else was up; no one can be banished only by writing a book.

"What else did you do?" I asked Kirigaya.

"I made it that anyone that read the book might gain an ability from the sub-form that they're reading about,"

"And how did you do that?"

"I massacred every sub-form species and fused each source and soul into the pages you were holding,"

I stared at the book; those pages were there because of a mass genocide. And by how thick the paper was, he would've murdered hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of innocent lives. All that just to create a book that might give someone an ability.

"You see, due to me inhabiting Rowan, he has a more likely chance to get a trait, I think he has about five different abilities from reading the book," Kirigaya continued.

"Who's Rowan?"

"That's Rowan," Kirigaya then pointed at the small boy. "It's my curse, I reincarnate in a body that is destined to read the book, and I remember everything that happened in my past lives," Kirigaya then wept.

"So you live inside Rowan's soul in a sense?" I asked him.

"Yes, but I can't control him, to talk to you I had to stop time,"

Stopping time was an unimaginable act, it took a lot of strength to make a spell for it, but it would only last for a short period as the caster was the only one who wouldn't be affected. Although after time continued, the caster would've already gone insane.

"Can you restart it?" I asked Kirigaya.

"Of course I can, but Kinsel will probably start it shortly,"

"Kinsel?"

"The time lord spirit that took my place, he's such a bastard, always following me around, ruining conversations,"

"So, why are you telling me all this? I hope it's not that I'm a part-demon,"

"Trust me, I don't see anything special in hybrids, there were hundreds of half-elves and half-dwarves before I killed them all, but a half-demon, that I barely saw ten thousand years ago,"

"But... why are you telling me this?"

"Because I see a boy that will do great things, that, and because I have been way too bored for too long jumping from body to body,"

Kirigaya then tapped my forehead with his right finger and started to grow transparent.

"To activate your eyes, just think or say the word 'elf', take care," He said while waving.

Kirigaya then disappeared, and time continued. The book fell, and I looked at Rowan to see that he was surprised.

"So, you're a half-demon?" Rowan questioned me. "If that is the case, I can see how you have a tail,"

"Yes, how did you know?" I replied to Rowan.

"Whenever Kirigaya comes back in, I see his memories of when time stopped. So he granted you the eyes of an elf?"

"I think so,"

"Well go try them out," Rowan exclaimed, pointing to the exit.

I immediately ran out of the library towards the archery range. I saw that the boy who tried to shoot at me on the first day was practising his aim, but I ignored him. When I got to the storage room, I picked up a longbow and a quiver of arrows. Running back outside, I placed myself in a spot and chose my target. A red bullseye about a hundred and fifty metres and whispered the word 'elf'.

I could immediately see the difference, the bullseye which was blurry; I could now see clearly. I aimed and fired the arrow, following it as it travelled through the air. It was five seconds before the arrow hit straight in the middle of the bullseye. I looked at the boy next to me to see his face gaping in awe.

"How did you do that?" The boy asked me.

"Just lucky I guess," I replied.

I placed the longbow and headed back inside to go back to the library. I was shocked and grateful at the same time to Kirigaya. The eyes of an elf, I now had another power to master.
