《Lucky SP》Chapter 3 - Solution 958 Genetic Stabilizer

2 Days had passed, since Spencer's supposed death. Throughout this time he did a lot of thinking. He noted the alpha-gene solution truck, the tinted cars, the human experiments, and the strange nail he found at the morgue. The more he thought about it, the more he felt it would be best if he did not return to who he was before. If those people found him alive, they might expend all costs to recapture him. But as of now, he was dead. By this time, the morgue building would have investigators finding any evidence they could. Unfortunately for them, they would logically believe someone stole Spencer's corpse and search for them first. Their first suspect would be the owner of the open locker. He stepped off the sidewalk and walked towards the highway ramp. There was a gathering of homeless, underneath the archway. The homeless are often forgotten in big cities like Chicago. He would easily be able to stay here undetected for a few days. He sat down a distance away from the others and took out a small granola bar to eat from the backpack. He also took out the solution 958 gene stabilizer, he found in the morgue lab, and the long 1 meter creepy nail. He played with the stabilizer syringe in his hand for a bit while thinking. During these past few days, his body still had short bursts of pain. His report said his gene's were not stabilized yet but there were improvements with the solution 958. He sensed he might face worse circumstances if he didn't tackle his genetic problem now. He decided he would do it. He grit his teeth, uncapped the syringe, and injected it into his arm. Only a few seconds later and his eyesight blurred and he fell unconscious. ... Meanwhile, a scrappy looking boy watched as Spencer injected himself with a syringe and fell unconscious. He always watched the newcomers under this archway. They make easy prey for thieves. He hoped to wait for an opportunity to approach him, but he didn't think it would have been so easy! His eyes sparkled after the man fell unconscious. He hurried over and took the long creepy nail before leaving. Other community members would soon look over his belongings. He had dosed himself with some kind of drug and was defenseless. 'Stupid old man. You think this is a middle class neighborhood where you can do what ever you want?' The boy sneered and hid away into a large abandoned sewer pip. He climbed into his bedroom. It contained his stockpiles of things, clothing, and food. He laid out the creepy meter long nail onto the ground to inspect it. 'This is definitely a treasure!' The boys eyes sparkled. He had never seen something like this before. It was a giant nail, It was long enough where you could wield it as a sword. The boy smiled happily at the thought of him using this nail to fight off other thieves. His previous weapon was only a medium sized knife, but it wasn't in good condition. Now, he could feel more assured about things. The boy nodded his head and and then put the nail underneath his pillow, in case of emergencies it was close by. He stared at the ceiling of the pipe and let his imagination run wild until he fell asleep. The nail under the pillow oozed out red-black energy and creepy aura. The energy seeped into the boys skin ever so slowly as he slept. His peaceful dream, began a small nightmare. ... Spencer recovered after a day and his stomach was growling. He realized the bursts of pain had stopped and he was feeling really good. He turned to grab his backpack and take out a granola bar, but it was gone. Spencer frowned. He had been robbed. Some of the homeless must have take his things while he was unconscious. He stood up and patted his jeans, knocking off the dust, and stretched. He noticed something strange. His belly was gone. Spencer quickly checked himself thoroughly. He jogged towards a window shop peered at his reflection. "What?!" Spencer was slim. His body no longer had a dad body. His pathetic appearance had transformed after injected the genetic stabilizer solution 958. He looked like he was 18 again. He grew 2 inches and was now 6'2. His body slimmed down and there seemed to be an unknown energy running through his veins. He now had a tattoo under his right eye. It stretched down over his cheek. It was a 5 mark tally. It was especially eye catching. The first mark was bronze-brown, the second was dark blue, the third was black, the fourth mark was dark red, and the fifth mark which crossed through them all was dark purple. He was now a completely different person. His jaw line had sharpened so much it looked like he had gotten plastic surgery to change his face. He was handsome. A little too much. He poked the tally mark under his eye. 'Where did it come from? Did someone tattoo my face while I was unconscious?' he thought. Spencer sighed. "With the way I look now, I can pass as a new man. " Spencer was deep in though as he stood in front of his reflection. 'I suppose... I'll just call myself by my name tag.' Lucky shrugged and continued walking along the sidewalk in his abnormally baggy jeans. He tightened the belt around his waist as he searched for food.

Tower of Somnus
When humanity first encountered alien life, we were judged and found wanting. The Galactic Consensus interviewed our leaders and subjected us to a battery of psychological tests to determine our progress as a society. They found us to be selfish, wasteful, impulsive, and boorish neighbors. Earth was blockaded and our collective encounter with our extrasolar neighbors rapidly faded from memory. All they left behind was a hypercomm relay and a handful of subscriptions to a massively multiplayer game that participants played in their sleep. The Consensus said that it would let us interact with our neighbors in a controlled setting. That it would teach us to be better members of the galactic community. The megacorporations that controlled Earth ignored the game until they learned that the powers earned from clearing dungeons were just as real when day broke. Magic, supernatural abilities and rumors exploded from nothing and a subscription to The Tower of Somnus became a status symbol. Katherine ‘Kat’ Debs doesn’t have much, but it could be worse. Born in an arcology, she was assigned a job in the megacorporation that raised her almost as soon as she could work. Despite the stability of her corporate life, she wanted something more. A chance to claw her way up the rigid social and financial ladder to make something of herself. A chance that wouldn’t come naturally to someone as familiar with dark alleyways and the glint of steel as she was with office work and corporate niceties.Book One is up on Kindle Unlimited as of 7/6/22 - https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B0B2X3L8H5

He slowly backs up until his back is against the wall like my own, "You're..my neighbor?" He points to my door and I nod my head quickly. He hums softly, "You been here a while?" He asks and I nod my head once again. He chuckles, "Ya head hurt?" I nod again but stop as he laughs softly, "I-I mean.. no.. it doesn't." My cheeks burn red as I look at my shoes, "I-It doesn't hurt.." I repeat like a dummy and listen to him clear his throat, "So do you actually live there or was it bull?" He nods to my door and I play with my fingers, "Yeah.. I do.." I feel his eyes watch me and I quickly stop. "You live with your boyfriend or do you like sweatshirts that reach your knees?" He teased, making a giggle slip past my lips. I look away to the floor again, "I-I like big shirts... a lot." I mumble softly and he nods his head, "Hol' up." He puts his box down before walking over to one of the grey bins. I nosily watch as he pulls out a big grey sweatshirt, "Here." He holds it out for me to take and I stare at him with wide eyes, "F-For me?" I hesitantly grab the soft fabric as he chuckles, "Nah for ya mom." I puff my cheeks a little and give him a small glare, "Hush." He leans back against the wall and shakes his head, "It's cold out. You should put it on." ____________________________She was a shy girl from the city with no spine and a list of problems so long that it could touch the floor and roll off her shoes.
