《Lucky SP》Chapter 2- Back from Death

A man blinked his eyes open. His vision was blurry. His head ached. His heart thumped loudly and small slivers of pain burst from each heartbeat. The stainless steel table was cold against his back. He tried to focus in front of him and sit up. It was pitch black in the morgue. But moonlight faintly made its way into the room. He moved his stiff body and dangled his legs off the table. The rays of moonlight made the surroundings feel ominous. He rubbed his arms. There were surgical scars along his muscles. His revival had sealed up his skin again. He tried to remember who he was, but there was a pain in his head. He remembered he was driving a van before a heart attack and crash happened. And now he was here. He moved his tongue around in his mouth stiffly. He clenched and unclenched his fingers and toes, trying to remove the stiffness. 'Who am I?' He continued trying to remember who he was. He looked down on the table he was seated on. There was a small name tag which read "Lucky S.P." He shakily reached out with stiff fingers. He fumbled a few times trying to grasp the name tag. Finally, he pinched it and held it in front of his eyes. 'Lucky S.P.' He dropped the tag and looked over at the corpse on the table next to him. It was in a black body bag and there was a tag on it also which read: 'Lucky S.Q.'. And turned his head to the other side, but didn't see a body on table. But it still had a half torn tag on it which read: 'Lucky S.O.' 'This must be a naming convention for this place.' The man spent the next few minutes warming the stiffness out of his muscles. He tried to organize his brain but he still felt pain. He was disoriented. He felt disconnected from all memories except those right before the car crash. It was already a miracle he was able to think at all. In fact, the time he spent dead was more than a day. His brain had started to deteriorate. He lifted himself stiffly down from the table. He staggered from the stiffness in his toes, but leaned on the table for balance. He walked back and forth 20 times while holding the table. When he finally felt he could walk normally, he wondered around the morgue complex to get his bearings. He found a small lab, a locker room, and an office. But they were all empty. He found an open locker inside the locker room. It was left unlocked for some reason. He took the clothing from inside the locker and changed into them. He looked himself over in the mirror. The appearance was unfamiliar to him. He touched his face and held the fat around his waist. He looked like a standard middle aged man with dark brown hair. He had a little stubble and his face was average. He finished dressing himself. The clothing was a size too big for him. The pants kept falling down and if there wasn't a belt inside the locker, he wouldn't have been able to keep them up. He went back to the open locker and grabbed the box of granola bars which was stuffed in the locker corner. He turned and left the locker room after searching through the locker. He first went to the office to look for any other things which could be of use. The man was missing all of his memories except for the car crash. He hoped he could find something which could help him remember. On the desk, a folder was lying open. There were papers scattered messily through the office, but this one had a picture of himself on the cover of the report. He picked it up and began to read through the document. [Subject: Lucky S.P.] [Cause of death: Blunt Force Trauma and Heart attack] [Experimental Subject: 1114 for gene resuscitation.] [Notes: Subject seems to be having an effect with multiple doses of gene stabilizer 958 as a base. This is the first time I have seen such a reaction. The cause is unknown but solution 958 is promising. Perhaps this effect is only for dead cells? Subject Lucky S.P. is responding but live test subjects do not respond in a similar manner during injection along side the Alpha-gene awakener to induce mutations. I will test solution 958 on Lucky S.Q. tomorrow... ] The notes continued and the man continued to read through the experiment data. After finishing the report, he calmly placed it down where it had been. Though this report did not mention it directly, he could tell this was not a normal experiment. Experimenting on live subjects? Not a good place to be. He decided it was best to leave here immediately. He did not know the reason why there was nobody here right now, but they would be back. And he can't be here when they are. He found a kid's backpack in the room corner, threw the box of granola bars inside, grabbed it and left the office. He hurried to the lab. He went inside and found 2 vials of solution 958 which was described in the report inside an isolated drawer. He filled a syringe with one before capping it and putting it inside the backpack. He also saw a long ominous feeling nail. It was about a meter long. It was supported out across the lab table on metal stands. Although he did not know what this thing was, it looked important so he threw the creepy nail into the child's backpack too. The man sensed he should leave now. He had grabbed what he could and he didn't want to deal with those people coming back and finding him alive and their things taken. He walked out into the dark night. The moon hung low in the sky. It was a pale yellow moon. He looked around. He was still in the city and there was a path out of the gates of the morgue. He approached the locked large old-style cemetery iron gates. He just now realized he was locked in. But he didn't despair. He search around the yard for half an hour before he found a ladder stored away in the lawn shed at the back. He laid the latter against the gate and climbed over. He rolled himself over the gate and hopped down. He staggered and fell on his butt. "Ouch" he rubbed his lower back before climbing back to his feet. He didn't have any money on him. Nor did he have any place to go. He just decided to start walking away from here. And find a place to stay as he walks.
