Chapter 14 – Proposal In Distress

The girl’s name was Iris. Wait, where have I seen this name before….

“Top players in Edilath”

Top Ranked Players in Edilath

#1 Ares (Knight)

#2 Faye (Healer)

#3 Zorian (Assassin)

#4 Xavier (Necromancer)

#5 Leon (Monk)

#6 Lyssa (Healer)

#7 Zephyr (Ranger)

#8 Riona (Mage)

#9 Giselle (Assassin)

#10 Iris (Warrior)

I knew it!

“Wait you’re Iris, the 10th best player in Edilath!”

After I said that, Iris started to awkwardly back away.

“Umm, yeah…”

Oh shit, I gotta calm down, I’m coming on too strong.

“Are you on your way to Cobeth Village?”

“Yeah….”

“Alright, let’s go together. We can talk on the way.”

I sent a party invite to Iris and she was reluctant to accept. As we were moving through the forest towards Cobeth we talked about various things. Supposedly Iris had the same idea as me to cut through the forest but on the way she ran into Duke’s group. The minute Duke saw Iris, he asked her to join [Nemesis].

I can’t blame Duke for wanting to invite Iris the minute he saw her, she’s a beauty. Her blond hair, alluring blue eyes, slender figure, and pointy ears that complimented her captivating smile makes her at least a 9.5/10. Plus she’s the 10th best player in Edilath. This woman is just… just something else.

*Cough* Now let’s back on topic…. She declined Duke’s offer mainly because of the bad rumors and then they got mad. Here’s how the conversation went:

“Iris, how about you join [Nemesis]?”

“Sorry, I’m not looking to join any groups at the moment”

“You dare refuse the boss’s invitation?!” – Grimm, the knight.

“Well, I’m just not that inter…”

“KILL HER!” – Duke

Well, that escalated quickly….

Even though she is the 10th best person in Edilath, taking on 7 people by herself is an impossible feat. Realizing her situation, she ran while they chased after her and then I suddenly appeared and killed the ranger. It became 2v6. The odds of us winning were still not very good, but they were better than before and we won!

We walked and talked for another 35 minutes before we finally saw Cobeth Village. It surprised me that she didn’t ask me anything about my life outside of the game. When people meet in game for the first time, real life is the usual conversation that comes up. What you do, how old you are, where do you live, etc. But Iris didn’t ask any of those questions, but I was fine with that, I don’t have anything good to talk about anyway….

Entering into Cobeth Village I saw my four friends waiting for me.

“My friends are over there, let’s go.”

We ran towards Ronin’s group and join his party. With that, we had 6 people in our party ready to take on any goblin that crossed our path. I was surprised that Ronin’s group just acted normally when they saw Iris, I guess they haven’t noticed that she’s one of the best players in Edilath yet.

“Alright since our party is established, we have to report to the commander and he’ll assign us to a zone.” – Ronin

We walked up to an NPC with the title Edilath Commander.

“Oh, what do we have here. You’re a small group but for some reason you seem very promising. I will assign you guys to zone 15, the northern part of the village.”

After hearing the commands we all unanimously said,

“Yes sir!”

Suddenly another NPC coming running towards the captain.

“Commander! Our scouts say that the goblins are coming to raid the village. They are coming from the north and east, about 15 minutes away.”

“How many are there?”

“We’re not sure, but probably over 25 thousand.”

“What?! This is bad, we only have around 6 thousand adventurers so far. This will indeed be a hard fight.”

Suddenly the commander yelled something that could be heard throughout the entire village.

“Adventurers of Edilath! Prepare for battle, the enemy is near! Defeat the enemy with all your might, fight for Edilath’s honor!”

The moral of the adventurers was heightened and everyone cheered because of the inspiration speech. But not long after the cheers of the adventurers were overshadowed.

“ROAR!”

A deafening roar was heard from a distance. It must be the sound of the goblins.

“We better hurry to our position and get ready.”

We ran to the northern zone and waited for the goblins to come. Standing there with axe and sword in hand, I felt my whole body shaking. But it was not from fear or nervousness, it was from anticipation and excitement. I couldn’t wait to slaughter numerous goblins. Am I a sadist?

“We should form a strategy.” – Ronin

“Axle, since you are good at observing, what do you think?” – Amber

“Well, seeing as we don’t know much about the enemy as of now, I think we should just go with a basic plan. Melee stay in front and attack. When you are losing too much health, fall back a little and heal up while making sure the healers don’t get attacked. Healers stay back and make sure you heal us, but don’t run out of mana too fast and drink mana potions when needed. We will improvise the strategy when it’s needed.”

“Alright!”

Looking around us, I saw many other parties ready to fight. I just hope we’ll be victorious….

“Roar!”

Author’s Note: I decided to leave you guys with a good old cliffhanger :P

Haley/Hazel Perspective:

{Ching! Clank!}

“Hurry up guys we have to finish this quest, the timer is running out!”

“Slow down Hazel, It’s not fair. You kill these trolls so fast because you have Pact Of The Night, the 5th best weapon in AA right now. While we only have these basic tier weapons.”

“Stop whining. I told you before, it’s skill, not just the weapon.”

“Yeah, sure….”

“What did you just say?!”

“Nothing!….”

My friends and I all started in Zarevia, the eastern kingdom. There are 5 of us in total. Nessa an elven mage, Cyndi a human knight, Esther an undead necromancer, Corrie a human healer, and me an elven assassin.

Recently, we received a quest from a distressed NPC named John, the ring he had just bought was stolen by some greedy trolls. He had saved up all his money for the past 3 years in order to buy that ring and now he wouldn’t be able to to propose to his girlfriend on their anniversary, which is tomorrow!

Our quest is to enter a cavern that is inside a huge mountain and retrieve John’s ring.

Quest: Proposal In Distress

Difficulty: D

Requirements: Retrieve the ring that was stolen from John. 1 day time limit.

Failure: Fame will decrease, John will not be able to propose on his anniversary.

Description: Enter the Chaos Cavern of Thieves that is inside Salosk Mountain. Beware, fierce trolls are inside.

We’ve currently been in this cavern for about 20 minutes now and have fought gruesome trolls who have strong melee and magic attack. They also wield all types of weapons that were clearly stolen.

Chaos Trolls [Rank 1]

Level: 16

Health: 350 / 350

Attack: 60

Magic Attack: 45

Defense 75

Abilities: [Fireball] [Camouflage]

“Alright guys, we need to move a little faster but be care…”

Suddenly a troll came out of it’s [Camouflage] ready to hit me but luckily my reaction time is pretty fast and I evaded the attack.

|Miss!|

We bombarded the troll with attacks killing it within a couple seconds.

“I hate these damn trolls, their ability [Camouflage] makes it impossible to see them because they blend in with nature. The only way you can see them in [Camouflage] is if they are basically standing right in front of your face.”

Killing these trolls isn’t really the problem but it scares the crap out of me when they suddenly pop out at you two feet away. If you’re not careful in watching your surroundings, you’re dead. A troll can come out of it’s [Camouflage] right behind you and attack you without noticing if you’re not careful. But luckily I don’t have this problem because the other 4 are watching my back while they slack behind….

We have killed many trolls and collected various things. But the loot still wasn’t that good. You would think that since these trolls steal so many valuables, they would drop some good stuff…. Most of the loot is crude and not worth much. The other girls don’t think the loot’s worth that much, so they don’t want it. In the end, I was collecting most of the loot that dropped.

Hey, everything’s worth something. Once all the trash loot builds up, I’ll be able to sell it for a small fortune and then it’ll be all worth it. Haha, I must have gotten these tendencies from my brother.

“Hey guys, I just read on the forums that Edilath got some kind of Kingdom Event. I wonder what the rewards are for completing it.” – Corrie

“The rewards are probably really good because it’s commissioned by their king.” – Nessa

“Really? Maybe they’ll get something cool from the king’s treasury or something.” – Cyndi

“No way! The King’s treasury can’t reward all the adventurers participating.” – Esther

“Oh, you have a point there….” – Cyndi

We talked about the Kingdom Event some more and then moved onto other conversations. I just hope James is safe and gets something awesome for his reward.

After another 3 hour of killing trolls, resting, and of course collecting trash loot we entered the last room of the cavern. It was a huge room with a dome ceiling. We’re probably at the peak of the mountain, except we’re inside of the mountain instead on the outside…. Looking farther down the room we could see an enormous amount of valuable loot. Gold coins, weapons, armor, and everything you could imagine was at the other side of the room.

“Guys let’s go, there’s so much valuables just waiting for us to collect!” Cyndi ran excited across the room.

Wait, something doesn’t feel right. Shouldn’t there be something guarding all this treasure…. I hurry to warn Cyndi.

“Wait Cyndi, something doesn’t feel ri….”

Just as I thought, a huge troll came out it’s [Camouflage] state and bashed Cyndi, knocking her back 10 meters. Oh man, why is our temporary tank such an airhead…. Looking at the troll standing in our path, we were all surprised at what we saw. Damn this thing is huge, how are we going to defeat this thing.

Hadden the Swindler [Rank 2 BOSS]

Level: 22

Health: 1000 / 1000

Attack: ???

Defense: ???

Abilities: [Fireball] [Swindle] [Camouflage]

Standing about 10 feet tall with a huge body, this nasty creature looks fierce. The troll is holding a 1-handed sword in his right hand and a 1-handed staff in the other. Looks like this Boss can do melee and magic damage.

The way Hadden looked was like a mother protecting her children except now it’s a troll protecting its treasure. I really want that treasure so we better kill this thing.

“Alright everyone, let’s kill this thing. Cyndi tank the troll, Esther summon some minions to help us with the fight, Corrie heal those who need it, Nessa use some ice skills to slow the Boss down, and I’ll try to do as much damage as I can.”

Hadden charged at us while I was shouting out commands and now was about 20 meter away.

“Prepare for battle everyone!”

Bracing ourselves for the fight to come, Cyndi charged the Boss fearlessly. Maybe it’s actually lucky that Cyndi is such an airhead, no normal person would be able to charge in fearlessly like that…. Cyndi attacked the troll but at the same time, the troll was attacking her back.

[35!]

|43!|

After Cyndi grabbed the enemy’s aggro, the rest of us started to attack the Boss with all our might. Luckily Corrie is a top notch healer, so no one will die for some time.

With my dagger glowing a red hue, I used my best skill [Bleed] on the troll. The skill does massive damage because it ignores some armor defense and will only get stronger as I level it up.

[45!]

Suddenly Hadden’s sword turned. Showing a red hue it attacked Cyndi almost killing her instantly. The skill that the Boss has just used was the one I have just used on him. It’s as if he just stole or… swindled my skill.

“Be careful guys, the troll’s skill [Swindle] can copy your skills and use it against you. It’ll be dangerous if he steals something really powerful.”

We fought for another 2 minutes getting the Swindler’s health down to 350. Suddenly the Boss used [Swindle] again. Stealing Nessa’s ice magic, Hadden used an AOE frost skill, slowing down everything that stood within it. Right after using the frost magic, he used [Fireball] on Cyndi.

Cyndi was unable to dodge the fireball because of her slowed state. She took the hit hoping that she would be healed right after. But unfortunately Corrie wasn’t fast enough. Cyndi died right after being stabbed with a sword.

With our tank dead, our chances looked grim. If the rest of us get hit by one of Hadden’s attacks, we’ll die instantly because we don’t have enough defense to withstand the hits. But the Boss only had 350 health left so defeating it isn’t impossible.

“Esther summon more minions, use them to take hits for us so we don’t die.”

“Alright”

Esther continuously summon more minions, using up her mana and stamina up rapidly. One by one the minions took the hits for us and died. Even though they were undead minions, I still felt terrible seeing their bodies getting torn apart with each hit. But this is survival of the fittest and we need to kill this boss within the next 2 minutes or else it’ll use [Swindle] again.

After 1 minute of continuously summoning, Esther was completely beat. She had no more mana or stamina left. But she has successfully done her job, the troll has 150 health left and we still have 3 minions left to work with.

We progressively got the Swindler’s health down while using the 3 minions to take the damage. But what I was still afraid of was that the cool down of [Swindle] was almost done.

“Attack with everything you got, we could all die from the next [Swindle].”

Nearly close to what we feared most, I summon all my strength and charged the ugly creature. Closing the distance, I dodged numerous fireballs and attacks. When I was 3 feet away from the Boss, I used my best skill again, [Bleed].

[66!] [Critical Strike!]

The Boss fell to the ground with a big thud. Thank you, critical hit! I kicked the Boss’s body in order to see the loot. The Boss dropped a 1-handed staff with a greenish hue, 10 gold, plate gloves, and what looked to be a spellbook!

“Let’s get the loot identified first and then we’ll distribute it.”

Since we all knew each other, there was nothing to worry about. We could trust each other.

After picking the Hadden’s loot, we rushed to collect all the treasure. We found a total of 250 gold! But since we had to split it up 5 ways, we each got 50 gold. We also found John’s ring. Damn, the diamond on this thing is huge! The rest of the treasure was pieces of crude to basic tier equipment which weren’t that good but all together, it could be sold for a lot of gold.

After we finished our business in the cavern, we walked back to Zarevia with our newfound treasure. I wonder how James is doing on the Kingdom Event.
