《Rise (A superhero serial)》Chapter 2

The lock clattered to the floor and I could feel the fire begin to rise up again. I looked at the boy in front of me, he stood a few inches taller at 6 foot. He was broad shouldered, with a dishevelled mop of orange hair.

I recognised him he was one of the boy’s from the year above me his name was Jack, he played football and was just your all round stereotypical douchebag. I also realised that I had been staring at him, trying to calm myself down for a solid 30 seconds.

“Why are you lookin’ at me with that retarded look on you face!” He yelled, I knew what came next some poorly veiled excuse to beat me up. I had stopped asking why it was happening a while ago, better to just let it happen and be done. It was more of an inconvenience now than anything else.

“The fuck are you lookin’ at, I’m talking to you punk!” He said as he swung wildly at my face. I could have dodged it, but then it would have just drawn things out taken up more of my already precious time. The punch connected and knocked me of the still closed toilet I was sitting on. Fuck. That was going to bruise. I’d have to think of an excuse for my mum later.

“He, piece of shit.” He said as he walked away. I lay there on the bathroom floor for a few minutes wondering how easy it would have been to just let loose and burn them all to death. Obviously I wouldn’t, but the looks on their faces would be fucking priceless.

The bell rang.

I just kept laying there, I no longer felt like going to class. About ten minutes later I got up and walked home. It was winter and all though it never really got too cold in Australia the air was still crisp enough to be annoying.

I walked along the side walk, trying not to make eye contact with anyone just want to get home.

After about 30 minutes I make it to my building. It’s one of the newer apartment buildings in the city and was pretty fancy. We weren’t rich but we weren’t poor either I climbed the stairs not wanting to wait for the elevator to arrive. Me footsteps echoed against the empty stairway until I hit the carpeted hallway of the 4th floor, I walked to my room. Number 456 and opened the door.
