Heres chapter 23. Enjoy. -Author McAuthoryAuthorGuy

“We can’t thank you enough Sear.” As the chaos was dwindling down, the town officials began to bombard him with compliments. Sadly, he didn’t listen.
“Yeah, yeah. It was nothing.” Turning around, he quickly utilized air magic and put out all of the fires in the city, along with rebuilding the outer wall that got destroyed.
“I’ll go back home and sleep. I’ll be up in a few hours.” Motioning goodbye, he began to walk back towards his home.
I hope it didn’t get destroyed. Then I would have to rebuild it once again. But its funny how people think they can take a whole city that easily. Well, they did almost take, if I wasn’t there they probably would have now that I think about it. Hmmm, I guess I should try to make the guards better.
In a few minutes he was back at his untouched house. Well, except for a few spots of blood here and there and a few bodies by his door.
Walking forward, he kicked the bodies out of the way until he had a way to the door. Walking inside, he slowly walked up to his room before closing the door and falling face first into the bed.

In the outskirts of the country…
Along the frontier of the city that connected with Greenjorn, villages and towns from both sides were burning.
“Quick! Someone get a healer! Commodore Feltin was wounded by an enemy and his whole left arm is gone from the elbow down. We have burned the edge of the arm to stop the bleeding but he lost too much blood!”
As the seaman spoke, another barrage of waves the size of palaces was sent towards the coast of Megrib.
Screams were heard as the waves tore through the camp. Men were smashed, crushed, and then pulled back into the ocean to find that the water was pressing down upon them taking them to the very bottom of the bay at a much quicker pace than usual.

Definitely the production of magic.
As chaos unfolded, on the other side of the bay a certain man could do nothing but laugh.

After Sear’s Nap
Getting up, Sear pushed his hair back and got up. Making a quick ball of water and splashing it on his face, he realized that he had let his hair grow out a bit too long. It now reached past his shoulders by a few centimeters.
Quickly grabbing it behind his head, he cut off 10 centimeters off of the end and let it down once more.
Happy with it, he walked out the door and slowly made his way to the town hall. He would probably have another day of listening to them conversing about random things.
I would train some soldiers but I doubt we have many left. Maybe I can convince the council to let me buy a mercenary group? I heard that there was one camped an hour outside the city…Hmmm…
Walking inside the council area, heads turned to face him as he sat down.
“Ah, you’re here Sear. We have been discussing ways we could protect the city from bandits while we rebuild now that most of our soldiers have been killed.
Well isn’t this some luck. Sometimes I feel as if there is something greater than me making my life go the way he wants. Oh well.
“Actually, I was thinking that I could hire the mercenary band that’s on the road near here. I can get all the money myself, I would just need your approval.”
“Well, it could help, but they aren’t that skilled… ah screw it, go ahead.”
‘Thank you.” He stood up, and left before anybody had another say. Smiling, he quickly ran home. In his basement, he quickly picked up a divine pot. Using earth magic, he recreated another 20. That should be enough to hire then for a few years.
Considering most mercenaries worked for 100 pots a day, 20 divine pots which were worth 10 million pots each should be more than enough.

It was sad that he still didn’t know exactly what they were made of. While he could summon the same metals as the normal coin, he had no idea how much of each or even what types it was that he used.
Oh Well, I’ll just go now.
Walking towards the outer wall of the city, he watched as people slowly began to take the corpses away. For now, all of the injured were being healed by mages while those without homes were sent to a camp in the highest layer.
It would probably be a few days before the reconstruction of the homes began, but they would most likely now be mostly stone.
Continuing to walk, he soon reached the outer wall of the city. Saluting to the few still remaining guards, he walked out and began to run along the road leading to the capital city.
In a few hours he would reach the mercenary camp.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A Few Hours Later…
Ahh, I can see the smoke rising in the distance and I can hear the clamoring of weapons. I am quite close by now.
Slowing his pace from an inhuman run to normal job before finally coming up on the camp.
It was quite large, sporting one of the largest mercenary groups in the continent with over 600 people in it.
As he stopped running and began looking around, he noticed several of the nearby men taking out their swords and looking at him with bloodlust.
“I’m here to talk to your leader. Where is he?” Looking around, he saw several of the men sneer.
“And what makes you think he cares? He’s a busy man, now get out!” Drawing his sword, the man charged Sear.
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…
Looking at the man, he was surprised that he was quite fast for his size. With at least 2 meters in height and arms the size of small tree trunks, he was someone who most people would run from.
Sadly, his form was horrible.
Noticing several flaws in the man’s stance, Sear rushed forward. As the man delivered a downwards swing, Sear sidestepped it and landed a solid kick, infused with magic of course, right to the man’s liver.
As the man fell to the ground coughing up blood, Sear spoke. “Can any of you tell me where your leader is?” Seeing most of them shrink back, he charged towards one and pinned them to the floor. “So?”
“He…he’s at the central tent. It’s the one right next to the bonfire. Impossible to miss.” Letting go of the man who almost pissed himself, Sear began to walk towards the bonfire.
On the way, he noticed that he would quickly have to teach these thugs some manners.
Continuing, he soon reached the big tent. Outside of it stood two men who were even burlier than the other man he just subdued, and they motioned for him to enter, having seen the fight.
Walking into the tent, he looked around. There were a few sleeping mats on the floor and on the other side of the room stood a man seated behind a large desk.
“Well then, speak up. What do you want from me?” The man’s voice was quite weird, having both a high and low tone to it. Shrugging it off, he took a better look at the man.
With a short military cut, a large cut along his left cheek, and a large beard, he looked exactly what you would expect a mercenary too.
“Straight to the point I see. Well, I’m here to hire you…”

The Core And The Wardens of Eternity
What is the Core, they asked me... It's the light that pushes the darkness away, a bastion of justice, a safe keeper of life. It grooms love and tolerance, embraces science, fights ignorance, sentences it to die a slow and tragic death. The Core... it's something that can't be destroyed for destroying it is to terminate the time and space itself. When the stuck-in-a-dark-age world of Zanria goes offline, the Core sends one of its experienced agents to find out what is going on and to try to reestablish a mysteriously severed connection. However, all his training and experience might come way short as the world sinks in war and chaos with different races and clans fighting for the Star of Bardan, the ward rumored to possess enough supernatural power to create and destroy entire worlds. *** I just changed the name of the series, from 'the Nexus' to 'the Core'. Somehow it just sounds more right to me. This is the first story, and it has a medieval fantasy setting. But, eventually, this is going to turn into Isekai series with elements of LitRPG. So, my future books might include worlds with advanced technologies that might be more in SciFi, including Steampunk, genre. The first book might start slow, but after a few chapters, it should all be properly set up, and by then you should get the feel of how it will all flow. Also, I plan to introduce different story threats that should spread out and criss-cross in the future. Hopefully, I will not complicate it too much, and that it will all read good. I am planning to continue to add chapters to the main storyline here, but I'm also starting a new story threat in the Core series called The Recordings of Raan. There is also a side story The Memoires of Eisen that's exclusive on Patreon for those who would like to support me.

Saga of the Jewels VOLUME ONE COMPLETE
Prefer to listen to rather than read Saga of the Jewels? I'm also releasing it as a free audibook serial podcast on iTunes here! Epic YA JRPG-influenced GameLit progression ensemble-cast steampunk romance fantasy! When Ryn’s hometown is destroyed, will he be able to gather together the twelve Primeval Jewels in order to defeat the evil Emperor and save the world of Mid? A fan novelization of an amazing Final Fantasy game that doesn’t actually exist, that currently releases at least one chapter a month. Epic in that this will be very long. “It’s a marathon, not a sprint!” (-Kandaj) YA in that this should be enjoyable to~13-year-olds and upwards. Some gore, some swearing, some sex, but nothing more than PG-13. JRPG-influenced / GameLit in that it uses lots of JRPG tropes, particularly from Final Fantasy. I’ve read a lot of fan Final Fantasy novelisations and you can basically think of this as a fan novelisation of its own Final Fantasy game that doesn’t actually exist as a game... Progression in that the characters level up over time (though not with visible litrpg stat boxes). They grow in ability through training and experience, gain new skills, individually and as a party (think Chrono Trigger) and spend time discussing and stratgeising about how to defeat their opponents. Main protagonist from book three would definitely be able to defeat himself from book one! Ensemble-cast because we've got quite the roster of misfits here. The first volume is all from the main protagonist's POV, but it starts dancing between his and different POVs thereafter. Steampunk in that we’ve also got airships, steam trains, pistols and ambiguous ‘amber bars’ that function a bit like artificial lights… Romance in that there is lots of shipping here, a few love triangles, and you may be kept guessing as to who will actually end up together... Fantasy in that we’re in a vaguely pre-modern setting. We’ve got swords, magic, dragons, dungeons, monsters, all that good stuff. * "This story captures that Final Fantasy quality perfectly. Kiddy but also grim. The characters are great... Severely underrated and needs more favorites/follows. I look forward to seeing how this story will unfold." -Gilgamesh9999 "Starting at the end and jumping backwards is not a writing style seen every day. I'll admit, I was a bit skeptical at first, but you've executed a fairly crazy idea very skillfully so far. Overall, a strong start to what could be a very strong story." -RandomFF.netUser "You definitely have my interest piqued. It'll be interesting to see where the story goes... It definitely has an 'old school Final Fantasy' type feel to it, which I appreciate...Good job! I am glad you are going into more details about the story you laid out in the prologue...of course the big burning question is 'You know they lose in the the first chapter, so how will they end up winning?' That of course, is the story you're writing...so we'll see how it goes! #Following." -KyleQuicksilver (quotes are from reviews on other sites) * If you enjoy it, don’t forget to boost Saga of the Jewels on topwebfiction.com!
