《P I G S》28. A crow in the night

I was shocked at what I had just heard.
What surprised me, even more, was his attire.
He was wearing a fancy suit and tie as if he was getting ready for a wedding and he was the groom.
The only thing that resembled his old look was the crow face and lazy eye.
I didn’t even know what to say however, he did.
“Before we continue I would like to apologize for my behavior last time and for eating your
companion, I hadn’t seen a human in a long time and I couldn’t contain my hunger.
I heard what happened with Sarah and although I'm sad about her passing I'm glad she can finally get a well-deserved rest.
But, that's not what I came here for, I came here to warn you about the Lion.”
I thought about what he said about Sarah.
She must have been the albino girl.
Maybe it was selfish but, I got some sort of relief in at least knowing her name.
Before I could even start thinking about what the Lio entailed he continued speaking.
“This will probably be the last time we meet so remember this, avoid the clothed LIon who pretends to lead the wild, and no matter what don’t let him see you.
If he does I recommend learning what the red symbols around you look like.”
I thought about what he said before looking down and trying my best to remember the symbols.
I didn’t know if what he was saying was true however, there was no reason not to consider what he was saying.
As I was looking at the symbols Ezra spoke up
“Why is this the last time we will see you?”.
The crow person looked as if he was reminiscing for a moment before saying

“A long time ago something happened to me and I ran away.
After I started to create a murder of crows to fill the void in my heart, however, these aren’t real crows their ones that He made.
So I guess you could say that with Sarah's death I and my murder are going to join her.
Of course, if you don’t believe me make sure that whenever you sleep you are
Inside of the symbols and even if you appear here in the night you’ll be fine.”
After he said that he stared at us with his one good eye for another moment before walking away and soon after the crows that seemed to fill the sky endlessly disappeared
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When I awoke that morning I felt melancholic. Maybe I was reminded of the constant death surrounding me or maybe the death of the crow person hit me profoundly although, I believe that wasn’t the case.
If I had to try and guess I think it was the fact that not even the things that lived on this island wanted to live here.
It made me ponder whether death was the last tragedy of life or the first blessing.
After a moment more ponder I decided that today was not the day to be a philosopher and I arose from bed.
It seemed that the others had gotten up while I pondered my thoughts.
Suddenly my melancholic mood added a hint of dread as I remembered that today was the day we leave.

We each carried a bag full of food, water, and whatever other survival tools we could fit.
We also all grabbed a knife just in case and if we ever thought we were gonna die we each had a pistol with a clip of 6 bullets however, we didn’t want to use them because the noise would probably alert the other creatures signifying our doom.

We also managed to find some read chalk which we assumed was used to create the symbols and although we didn’t know if it would work we took it anyways.
Our biggest struggle came when we had to open the hatch.
We all stood there silently not wanting to open it and leave the safety of the bunker however, we had to unless we wanted to starve to death here which I was starting to consider.
Eventually, Ezra offered to do it.
We watched as he slowly opened it.
The few seconds it took to open felt like years passed.
We were scared that the first thing we would see outside the hatch was one of those creatures and if that happened we had nowhere to run.
Thankfully there was nothing there and we all climbed out.
It seemed to be early morning as the sun was just starting to rise as we started our trek.
The first hour was the worst to walk.
We walked very slowly and quietly terrified of coming across a creature.
Every twig we stepped over felt as if its noise would wake the entire world.
Thankfully we didn’t come across anything.
We made it to about midday and started eating some granola bars for lunch as we didn’t want to eat anything that would smell too much and alert any creatures of our location.
After lunch I noticed that my feet were getting sore and looking at the others it seemed true for them as well however, we had to keep moving to get to the next bunker by the end of the day.
It took another seven or so hours of walking before we thought that we were getting close to looking at the map
. Soon after we saw the bunker in the far distance.
We barely resisted the urge to run over there and get inside.
I swear you could hear our hearts jump out of our chest in excitement.
As we started getting closer however our faces grew pale as we noticed something.
It was moving.

Cosmic Bulldozing Team
"Welcome to the Cosmic Bulldozing Team! CBT for short... references to any other acronyms are purely coincidental." Breve has one exceptional gift: an inborn potential for Resurrection magic. The cost? Every other healing spell she casts is absolutely paltry in comparison to the rest of her race, making her family outcasts within her society. That potential alone, however, classes Breve as a Rank A Healer. By what metric? Well, by the crazy elf lady who’s about to destroy her planet. Wait, what? Here's the low-down: her planet has been targeted by the Cosmic Bulldozing Team, which, as their name suggests, operates in the apparently lucrative business of destroying planets. This comes with the unfortunate side-effect of also murdering everyone who lives there. And Breve would’ve been killed, too, if she hasn’t unintentionally passed their audition for a new healer. Unwillingly saved by the people who just annihilated everything Breve ever knew and loved, she’s dragged into a massive spaceship before, without a moment’s reprieve, being assigned missions to sally forth and commit the same atrocities on other planets. And with Breve's home lying in a pile of celestial bedrock, it seems that cooperating is the only option. And she will cooperate, or so help her, they'll send her back whence she came: into the void of space, where the smashed rubble of her planet now drifts along. "Buckle in, rookie: you've got some planetary destruction ahead of you." (Updates every 2 days.)
