《The Aether Universe》Chapter 1

Tai groaned as he was woken up by his little sister, Anna. "Tai! Wake up! It's time to eat breakfast," Anna yelled at him as she jumped on top of him, up and down. "Ughhh, okay, okay. Now get off of me," Tai said, groaning as he stretched his legs. Anna giggled as he whined and got off of him, heading out of his room and into the dining room. "Be quick, or mom will be mad." Tai got out of his bed and went to the bathroom, splashing his face with water. As he was washing his face with water, he looked at himself in the mirror. Tai had a pretty athletic body. He was 18 and had recently graduated from high school. When he was in high school, he was one of the best at running, winning the regional championship for his school. Tai had his life set for him. He had many colleges and universities offering him scholarships, but he didn't care about any of that. Right now, he wanted to rest. Track and field season burnt him out, and he had little to no time to rest, especially since he was a very competitive person and hated to lose, so Tai would train every day, making sure he was ahead of the competition. As he was looking at the mirror, he did some poses, flexing his muscles. Tai had muscles, but it wasn't like bodybuilders with their gigantic muscles. His muscles were lean and toned as big muscles would slow him down when running. Finished with his morning routine, he made his way to the dining table, sitting down where he usually sat. "Morning, mom." As he sat down, he noticed that Anna wasn't here, most likely in her room. "Morning. Eat your food fast. Jake is outside," his mom replied, smiling at him. "He is? Why didn't you let him in?" Tai asked as he started wolfing down his morning breakfast, which consisted of eggs, bacon, and rice. "I tried to, but he said it was fine and that he enjoyed the sun anyways." Tai's mom looked at him, concerned by how fast her son was eating his food. "Slow down, Tai. You might choke." Tai laughed as he heard that Jake wanted to stay outside, causing him to choke on the food in his mouth. "That does sound like something he'd say." After a few minutes, Tai finished his breakfast, letting out a sigh of satisfaction. Finishing his glass of water, he went to his room and grabbed a hoodie and his sweatpants, putting them on. Fixing himself up a bit, Tai left the house, seeing his friend, Jake, sitting on the front porch. "Yo, what brings you here so early?" Jake looked towards Tai. "Listen, I have to tell you something." Tai raised his eyebrow. "And what is that?" Tai had known Jake for a long time, being one of his long-time friends, and his tone was weird, so to say. He looked at Jake and noticed that he was shaking, but the unusual thing was is that it wasn't cold outside. There wasn't even a breeze to make you feel cold. "What is it? Is something wrong?" he asked him, concerned. "Tai, listen, something is gonna happen in a few minutes. I don't know when, but I know it's gonna happen soon." "Wait, wait. What?" Tai was confused. He didn't know what Jake was talking about, and if it had been any other person, they would've thought he was crazy. "What's gonna happen?" "The world is gonna change. I'm not the only one who knows. All the first-world countries know about this, and they've already taken precautions to save their countries, but it's not enough. The land will change. Countries will move around and combine with our countries, and the earth will grow." Now Tai was confused and didn't know what to think about what his friend said. "What? Jake, are you sure you haven't been reading too many conspiracy theories?" "No, no, no. Listen, Tai. It's true. Earth is what you would call a seed planet. A primitive planet that has no Aether, similarly, your universe is also a seed universe, a universe with no Aether." "Seed planet? Aether? What's that? Is that like mana from games?" "No, mana is like a downgraded version of Aether." Tai began laughing. "As much as I want to believe you and I really do, but I just can't without any proof." "You want proof? Here I have proof. I couldn't use it before, but now I can." Jake held out his hand, his palm facing the sky. "Fireball." As he said the word 'fireball', a ball of fire appeared in his hand, shocking and startling Tai. "W-wait. So you mean..." Tai swallowed his saliva that had been building up in his mouth. "Y-you mean that everything you said was true?" "YES! That's what I've been trying to tell you, and it's gonna happen soon." After Tai had calmed down, Jake put out the fireball. "But I thought you said that Earth was a seed planet and that it had no Aether." "The description is misleading. What it should be is that seed universes have Aether, but not enough to be something significant. Over time, these universes generate a small amount of Aether. Eventually, the Aether in the universe becomes high enough for it to be significant, and that's when the Aether starts changing the universe." Tai took a few seconds to digest what he had just heard. "Wait, but wouldn't that be a good thing? I don't know about you, but I don't mind shooting out fireballs from my hand or becoming like the Hulk." "Well, yes, but it's not all good. Humans won't be the only ones benefiting from Aether. Gorillas, cheetahs, lions, tigers, all apex predators will benefit from Aether." Tai realized what he said. If animals also had Aether, then wouldn't the world become just like the worlds in fiction? All of a sudden, as Tai was thinking of all the possibilities that Aether could do, Jake suddenly stood up. "What's wrong?" Tai asked him. Jake closed his eyes as he felt the Aether around him rise. It was happening. "Listen, Tai. I'm not from this world. I'm from a different world in the Aether Universe. It's where all seed worlds will eventually go to. Right now, your universe is being integrated into the Aether Universe. I can't explain everything, but a system should be given to you soon. It'll allow you to harness the Aether around you since you don't have a natural Aether organ." Tai was shocked when he heard that his long-time friend wasn't from this world, not even the same universe. "Wait, what do you mean. Do you have to leave or something?" Jake opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. Realizing that he couldn't talk, Jake waved goodbye to Tai as he disappeared in a flash of light. Hello, all Earth residents. Your world currently, is being seamlessly combined with other worlds in the universe that has life, making a mega planet as your universe is being integrated into the Aether Universe. You have received the system. The system will allow you to harness Aether to its full potential and let you use it since you lack an Aether organ.

Vast Asleep
The story of Kingard the Binder in the aftermath of Broken This short story is the epilogue of Broken, the second book of the Chronicles of Mother's Gate series. It’s a great follow-up to the novel, a bonus story that adds extra layers but is set apart from the full-length narrative. Vast Asleep follows the story of Kingard, who finds himself caught in a world called Mother's realm, bathed in glowing light but strangely stuck in place. He encounters his greatson Varyan there, and learns that his experiences are likely dreams. As he grows more accustomed to the loving realm around him, Kingard remembers fear and trepidation about the face of the world, and he loses contact with his companion. This story answers the question, Is Kingard really dead? with a tentative no, and new mysteries brewing. It also raises the question, What's happening while he's awake? and includes an excerpt from the sister story Ride Awake, about Kingard's situation with the Colkh'rak. Praise for Tales of the Known World Bookends: Loved it. The difference between the two stories is great! The difference between the epilogue and prologue is astounding. So much light and love in the first story. You feel safe reading it. Healing. The second, so much darkness, pain and despair. The choice of vocabulary is awesome and makes an impact. And this set of short stories ties the two books together so well. -- Dana V. of Texas ★★★★★

Sacrificed in Thirty Seconds
A somewhat unusual reincarnation story, where the main character is thrown into a new world and tries to survive. It is a combination of survival/adventure. I wrote it as a fast-paced, action driven story. If you like slice of life, or extensive descriptions, it is probably not for you. This is my first book here, I will not remove it, but do not expect anything special.
