“Hello! Hello! Water spirit, you’re there?”

“…”

“Calling the Water spirit that is the Lake Watcher or the Pond Watcher or whatever it is called, you there? Wait a moment, what are we saying? Of course you’re there! Answer us already!”

“…okay fine! What is it?”

“Don’t act stupid, you know what this is about. Why are you still the Boss? When are you coming back to the hive?”

“What? I/we like it here and it’s not like you guys need me specifically for something. There are other Water spirits in the hive.”

“Yes and they want their turn as the Boss. It is also a waste of energy to maintain the Watcher Boss…especially when you are doing NOTHING!”

“…”

“All you are doing is staying on the bottom of this small lake. Do something or release the Boss and come back to the hive!”

“…okay but in my defense, there’s nothing to do. The human army is already on their way to Mount Morningstar and they just left behind a small group that’s busy building some structure on the shore.”

“It’s called a wall dummy. Then do something about that or come back to the hive! We are not maintaining the Boss if you’re just there to enjoy the water. Start a fight or something!”

Reluctantly, the lazy Water spirit moved the Boss towards the shore of the lake. Some of the spirits within the Fire Hive stayed focused on the fight. The humans had built a small wall on the shore and had something they called a parapet which they humans believed would help against “The Lake Watcher”. The spirits wanted to see how useful this parapet was. Most of the spirits however were more interested in the coming human army. The human army had just arrived at the volcano and the Fire Hive was now just waiting for them to come in. Luckily the spirits figured that they did not have to wait too long. Even the stupidest of idiots couldn’t miss the entrance they made.

The entrance to their maze used to be just a small hole on the side of the mountain but Mount Morningstar was a dormant volcano and where there are volcanoes, there is caves. Like most volcanoes, there were many caves on Mount Morningstar and at first this was not a problem. Over time however, the Fire Hive got bored and it began to wonder why no one was coming to it’s new home. The Fire Hive send the Fire Fairies out and things got slightly better as the fairies began luring humans in. They usually used some sad snappy story about how their human masters were killed by a monster in the volcano. However the arrival of the Speaker gave the Fire Hive an idea.

The Fire Hive had heard the Speaker saying admirably about how the entrance of their home was hard to find and that anyone without a guide would have a hard time finding it. After a short discussion, the Fire Hive decided that they need to make their entrance more prominent. The Earth spirits within the hive took to the task like bees to honey.

First, the Earth spirits decided to create a pair of grand demon statues on either side of the entrance. There was some argument about what kind of statues to build but in the end the Earth spirits decided to go for the artistic route and designed statues of demons that they had not created yet. On the left side of the entrance the Earth spirits created a giant statue with a large rounded head. Two small spiral horns adorned the top of the head and the Earth spirits decided to give the statue four fierce eyes to go with the four arms on it’s huge muscular body. On each hand were a different weapon; a sword, a shield, an axe, and a dagger, and the face of the statue was shown to be giving out a loud roar.

On the right side of the entrance was a much smaller statue that the Earth spirits were most proud of. Almost petite when compared to the other warrior statue, the Earth spirits designed this demon statue to be a magic-user. The statue was a grinning female who had two huge bat-like wings protruding from her back. She had long flowing locks with four thin horns on her forehead. Going with the small petite theme, the statue had two thin arms but both her hands held a ball of frightful energy that show the statue was in the midst of casting a spell. The statue only had two eyes but both of them showed a mad intensity that the Fire Hive had seen human mages showing when they were casting their spells. Unlike the warrior statue that only had simple warrior garb, this statue had a dress that was showed flowing in the wind. The Earth spirits had wanted to give the impression that the statue was flying and even the other spirits within the Fire Hive were proud of how it turned out.

The small dirt track the Speaker had seen earlier was widened and now there was a wide clearly defined path between the two demon statues. The path led to a wide opening that had a bright red glow. The Fire spirits created a big bonfire just inside the entrance of their home and the light was from the fire. With such effort, the spirits within the Fire Hive truly believed that there was no way the humans could possibly missed the entrance and they were right. The humans found the entrance in no time and the army began setting up camp outside the entrance. The two leaders of the humans, the mage Luc and the warrior Mazo, came to the entrance and the moment they looked at the entrance Mazo just shook his head and said.

“By the 99 Gods, they’re not even trying to hide. Why don’t they just put a welcome sign here?”

At the comment, most of the spirits within the Fire hive groaned. They knew what was coming and a small group of the spirits took the chance to crow.

“See! We told you idiots we should have a welcome sign out there!”
