《Binary Progression》Volume 1 - Chapter 11: Fighting the first boss!

"Bonifacius: Prepare yourselves! Before us stands the first boss of the crypt, Lasterix The Soulweaver!"
In the large room stood an eight-legged creature, the pages themselves had armour and resembled those of a spider.
The creature's back was long and arched forward, the large, black spikes on its back arched back to form a make-shift hood over its head.
Its body was covered in black, silky robes and wraps and on its head, it wore a long, black hood which obscured its face say for the dozens of glowing eyes which looked around, each one looking in a different direction.
As they stepped into the large doors slid closed stopping them from leaving, the music changed to a battle theme and the boss' eyes focused on Bonifacius.
A health bar appeared over its head - with a health counter going up from 0 to 1000.
"JohnWillStab: 1000 health?!"
"Bonifacius: There is no going back now!"
"XxFoxlyxX: I'll set up for the adds!"
XxFoxlyxX character rushed off to the side of the room, casting spells leaving strange pieces of paper on the ground.
♕ was monitoring the health of the party, nobody was in need of healing yet so she began casting a spell at the boss, Fairy Flies the spell summoned dozens of neon glowing insects which buzzed and flew towards the boss playing the sting and bite animation before disappearing.
"Bonifacius: Observer thy mana!"
♕: No worried, got potions.
JohnWillStab felt out of sync with the rest of the experienced players, he approached the boss seeing that Bonifacius and ♕ combined only dealt about thirty percent more damage than him, despite the fact he was meant to be the damage-dealer, he started spamming Stab and Kick.
The boss started casting Neurotic Cloud JohnWillStab countered with Gut Punch however since the creature was a boss it had no effect.
As black-purple smoke started pouring down from above, JohnWillStab looked up seeing broken pipes he didn't previously see while the churning gas filled the battlefield.
Foxly's character fell down to the ground limp, their hp slowly decreasing and a paralysis effect on their character.
Green lights enveloped Bonifacius as his health was replenished with Minor Restoration and then with purple light as ♕ cast Cure Minor Disease - next JohnWillStab was enveloped with purple light from the same spell.
"♕: Foxly's out of range!"
♕ was standing at a safe distance casting more healing spells as the need arose.
Seeing that the boss' health was down to 912 he moved out towards Foxly's body using the /pickup command on him and carrying his limp body over to ♕.

The screen shook as the message appeared on everyone's screen: "The Soulweaver has shifted to an alternate reality and summoned minions to dispose of you - they will have to return in one minute..."
From those same pipes poured centipede-like monsters - dozens of them.
♕ cast Cure Minor Disease causing XxFoxlyxX to stand back up.
"XxFoxlyxX: Thanks, fam."
Soon the party became literally covered by a layer of over-size centipedes.
In the dire situation Bonifacius cast Collosal Step killing almost all of them - their bodies not lingering and instead, making way for the next wave by fading out.
"Bonifacius: XxFoxlyxX! Use the seals!"
"XxFoxlyxX: Right!"
As XxFoxlyxX cast the spell - Sealcast Flame the pieces of paper from before erupted into flames killing most of the centipedes once more.
"JohnWillStab: Those were bombs?!"
"XxFoxlyxX: A scripter places seals, then uses spells to cast spells from the seals!"
Bonifacius cast Collasus Roar followed by Defence Stance.
XxFoxlyxX started casting more attacks, he was tossing pieces of paper and some stuck to the creatures, others to the walls and floor.
"XxFoxlyxX: Ready."
"Bonifacius: Cast it!"
XxFoxlyxX cast Sealcast Tide causing serpent-like waves to appear grabbing the centipedes and dragging them up into a large ball of water which turned white with foam and dripped blood as it began trashing everything inside to a pulp.
"♕: Twenty-two seconds left!"
JohnWillStab was slashing and kicking his way through the sea of insects, they dealt little damage to him, and with ♕'s healing, he was able to fight with no concern for their health.
Eventually, every creature exploded into blood, as the Soulweaver appeared,
"XxFoxlyxX: Got 10 casts of mana left."
"♕: I'm good with mana, I'm getting jammed by cooldowns!"
Bonifacius removed the Defence Stance and cast Master Tackle smashing into the boss.
Glowing green spots appeared on the ground.
"JohnWillStab: What are those?!"
The black spikes shot out from the creatures back like tentacles and buried into the ground where they hit.
"JohnWillStab: K - think I got the idea."
"♕: Watch out [email protected]!"
Shocked JohnWillStab looked back to the boss he was idly spamming Kick and Slash at only to see it was lifting one leg before Bonifacius could make it towards him in time the creature cast a stomp spell knocking JohnWillStab back and into a wall making his screen go black.
"Bonifacius: Keep an eye on the boss for attack indicators!"
"JohnWillStab: Right, sorry, my screen's gone black though!"
"♕: Fantastic! He's knocked out!"

♕ began casting healing spells in rapid succession until JohnWillStab Stood up and saw that the boss was at 751 health and Bonifacius was only at 40% health.
The boss lifted its massive leg causing Bonifacius to enter the Defence Stance and causing JohnWillStab to run back from it and towards the wall.
When he thought he was safe he noticed the green spot under in front of him and at the same time saw the boss's back-spikes starting to shoot forwards.
Should he go back? Take the hit? Or sprint ahead?
JohnWillStab decided it was time to try out his new ability, Sprint and with its aid he managed to outrun the attack which would have otherwise hit him, instead he ran into the wall which made his character fall down to the floor and take minimal damage - but he stood up in no time.
JohnWillStab rushed back towards the boss, slicing at it and kicking it, occasionally the process repeated and with time JohnWillStab learned the distance he had to flee and how to avoid the green spots, the trick to them is that they slowly fade into view meaning you never see them "pop" into existence - as a result, you often don't notice them.
When the boss was down to 500 health it echoed a loud cry as it began casting Blood Plague - from the pipes began to pour black slime which attached to Bonifacius as his character began turning obsidian-black and droop black liquid.
The black colour disappeared as ♕ cast Cure Minor Disease but as if the spell was sentient the black slime went after her next.
This time more than just one, the effect stacking as the character turned black, their player playing the /choke and /vomit animation causing black slime to pool underneath.
"♕: What the f#@k is this?!"
"XxFoxlyxX: Blood plague! It'll spread to the nearest target and try to spread unless healed, in which case it'll go after the healer!"
Upon hearing this JohnWillStab cast Sprint and approached the diseased ♕ as the black slime syphoned from her onto JohnWillStab who (thanks to his status as an undead) was immune to poison.
With the blood plague spell decreasing in severity with each unit which is transferred it became next to useless, allowing ♕ the chance to cast Cure Minor Disease removing the effect from her altogether.
"♕: You thought of that but you didn't know how AOE attacks work!?"
"Bonifacius: Stand near the boss! Thou shall absorb the plague!"
"JohnWillStab: Got it!"
JohnWillStab ran over to the boss seeing that it was casting another blood plague spell which flew directly towards Bonifacius - it's severity was taken down to 1 allowing ♕ to cure it safely with Cure Minor Disease
"XxFoxlyxX: I'm back to 75% mana!"
"Bonifacius: Good, there shall be another round of minions soon - prepare for that!"
"XxFoxlyxX: Got it!"
XxFoxlyxX went out and started placing more paper seals.
Seeing the boss stopped casting blood plague and was now back to casting the AOE stomp and the green-spot back-spike ability.
The fight continued for another while until the boss reached 100 health, they were down to one-tenth.
"XxFoxlyxX: Final phase, bois!"
The Soulweaver let out a screech causing the pipes above to release more centipedes.
The Soulweaver continued stomping which sent his own minions flying out and reducing them to splatters on the walls, the most dangerous part of this was the fact the minions obscured the green spots on the ground making them more deadly.
♕ was casting a new spell, it had a long duration, the particles on the ground changed and the light-show began, seeing the danger JohnWillStab targeted ♕ and used /carry moving her out from the green spot she stood on moments before the black tentacle came down skewering several centipedes - her spell wasn't interrupted.
"♕: How the hell'd you see that?!"
"JohnWillStab: it was a bit of a risk but I think I learned the pattern for the circles - they appear in eight layers on the ground, with at least one dot on each layer and every one of the 8 directions having a dot, judging from the placement of the dots we did see, it was very likely you'd be stabbed."
"♕: YOU FIGURED THAT OUT - BUT NOT HOW TO DODGE THE FU!#ING AOE?!"
♕ finished casting the spell and unleashed a massive wave of healing onto every member of the party, seeing this as their best chance XxFoxlyxX called out: "♕: CROWN - CAST MAGNIFY MAGIC ON ME!" as soon as she did he cast Sealcast Flame creating large pillars of flames which charred every enemy in the room - including the boss.
