《Binary Progression》Volume 1 - Chapter 10: New To Dungeoning...

"JohnWillStab: I'm going to use the "business card" and summon this crown person here - maybe she'll join."
"Bonifacius: Perhaps - but in the past, she seemed not too eager to help our cause..."
"XxFoxlyxX: Most of my friends list is out."
"JohnWillStab: Guess we have no choice..."
JohnWillStab used the item and a message similar to before appeared.
"♕ : Thank you for using ♕ cheating service - due to recent changes in the server's security I will no longer be able to teleport to you - instead I will record your location (19:0,189, 95, -1) at which point I will begin my manual journey to your location - considering your coordinates relative to my own you ETA is: 0 Minute(s) "
"JohnWillStab: I think it's broken, the ETA is 0 minutes."
"Bonifacius: Or perhaps we were followed!"
"♕ : There appears to be a communication issue - it seems that your ETA was displayed as 0 instead of the intended 25, sorry for the confusion"
"Bonifacius: Thou does know thou have written that message within local chat...?"
"XxFoxlyxX: digging yourself a deeper hole, fam..."
Bonifacius cast Collasus Roar, the spell aggros and builds threat on all nearby creatures and with the exception of boss monsters it will also knock down the enemy.
Red ripple-like texture appeared on the ground, while the party members were unaffected, ♕'s character fell from a nearby tree playing the free-fall animation and creating a dust-cloud particle as she crashed into the ground.
"JohnWillStab: So you're a cheater and a stalker..."
"Bonifacius: Despicable..."
"XxFoxlyxX: You're a stain upon the frog-man race..."
XxFoxlyxX shakes his head in disappointment.
"♕ : I was just doing some reconnaissance, I used epic hacking powers to know you'll call me."
"Bonifacius: Thou has hacke'th the laws of space-time?"
"XxFoxlyxX: And the hole gets deeper..."
"♕ : Fine, I was hoping you'd get stuck in the dungeon and request my help..."
♕ sighs
"JohnWillStab: You really have no morals..."
"♕ : That aside! Perhaps I could interest you in my premium healing service?"
In a private group chat...
"JohnWillStab: Do we really need a healer?"
"Bonifacius: It would speed up our conquest of the dungeon..."
"XxFoxlyxX: Yeah - I'm a scripter so don't expect too much from me healing wise..."
"JohnWillStab: Alright... how do we know if we'll manage?"
"Bonifacius: A dungeon requires four roles to be filled - A tank, that's me, a DPS also called damage dealers, that's you, a support, that's foxly and lastly a healer, once the four requirements are met you have a party capable of running most dungeons."
"JohnWillStab: I guess I was going to ask her in the first place, her being a stalker doesn't change much..."
"♕ : Exactly!"
"XxFoxlyxX: ...you snuck into our private chat?"
"Bonifacius: Despicable..."
"♕ : :P"
"Bonifacius: Alas - we are prepared."
"JohnWillStab: Wait, before we do that... what do you get out of this, crown?"
♕ took no time to reply, as if she was waiting for the exact question.
"♕ : I just felt so bad for what I did earlier, I decided to pay you guys back, y'know!"
"JohnWillStab: ..."
"Bonifacius: I do not purchase that..."
"XxFoxlyxX: Your rp talk is good as ever I see..."
"XxFoxlyxX: And no - I don't buy it either, she already admitted she came here in hopes of capitalising on our misfortune..."
"♕ : What?! No! I swear I just want to make thing right! This is a new start for me!"
"XxFoxlyxX: ..."
"JohnWillStab: ..."
JohnWillStab's and XxFoxlyxX's characters exchanged a look which translated to "Yeah right..." - they turned to Bonifacius who was playing the /cheer animation.
"Bonifacius: Fantastic! Welcome to the party, friend!"
If there was an animation which would allow characters to stand with their mouth agape in shock both JohnWillStab's and XxFoxlyxX's characters would have been spamming it.
"XxFoxlyxX: This game is over 80 gigabytes, but no string of emotes and character movements can express the amount of "what the f*!k" I'm feeling."
"JohnWillStab: ...I should have foreseen this..."
"Bonifacius: Be at ease, friends! For it is never too late to improve thyself!"
"♕ : Right! Let's go!"
♕ has been invited into the party by Bonifacius who was trusting as ever.
The party marched down into the quarry, the dark rock cut into angular shapes leading them down to the bottom where amidst the many pools of putrid water stood an ancient tunnel, pillars and tiled floors invited the group inside.
"Bonifacius: Alright, doubt I need to explain this to XxFoxlyxX and crown, but JohnWillStab - I shall explain the basic dungeon formations to you."
"JohnWillStab: Alright!"
"Bonifacius: In most cases a dungeon party consisting of the usual five, ten, fifteen or twenty players is split up into basic fronts."
"Bonifacius: In the very front are the tanks and the other melee weapon users, that includes you."
"Bonifacius: Behind us is the middle front, for mages, and support - lastly in the very back are the healers."
"JohnWillStab: 20 player dungeons!?"
"Bonifacius: Indeed, but this is a very basic one! Five players will suffice, alas we only have three..."
"♕ : T^T"
"XxFoxlyxX: Hah"
"Bonifacius: Tis not what I mean, frog-kin count as half a player."
"♕ : lol"
"♕ : nvm, f#!k"
"XxFoxlyxX: T~T"
After marching for about a minute through the relatively linear hallway of jade tiles and mighty marble pillars the party came across a large, churning vortex of lights,
"JohnWillStab: Is that some trap?"
"Bonifacius: Tis the portal to the dungeon, 'twould be chaos if every party stormed this lair at once!"
"JohnWillStab: Alright! Let's do this!"
"Either that armoured dumbass has something planned, or he's stupider than I thought. The third boss of this dungeon, ‘the wall of bones’ always glitches mid-way through the fight, they'll have to accept my offer since you can't teleport out of a dungeon until everyone is dead!" ♕ thought chuckling with excitement in real life.
The party stepped through the portal and entered a similar-looking hallway, except ahead of them was a large open room, with lined-up statues and pillars.
"Bonifacius: JohnWillStab, does thou see anything special about this room?"
"JohnWillStab: No...?"
"♕ : It's alright - it can take a few tries to see these things."
"XxFoxlyxX: Don't tell em', he’ll realise."
JohnWillStab had another look around the room, statues, pillars... floor... roof... there was nothing there.
"JohnWillStab: Nope, maybe my game's broken..."
"Bonifacius: For now, let's keep going - you shall realise soon, I'm sure! Though I’m not sure of what the application of this mechanic could be."
"XxFoxlyxX: I bet it’s just a visual effect thing."
JohnWillStab continued to look intensively at the rooms as he walked.
Bonifacius: Ahead of us - the first enemy!"
Ahead of them stood what looked like a man made from rock, with the jade floortiles as shields and armour, wearing the shards of jade on their torso, from in between the cracks in their rocky form writhed black, oily tendrils.
"Bonifacius: Remember the fronts!"
Bonifacius cast Master Charge and crashed into the monster - it didn't even budge, its health moving down by a tiny bit.
JohnWillStab charged in after him, casting kick and seeing that he dealt a little more damage, the monster swiped its rocky arm smashing into Bonifacius who took fifteen percent damage, pushing him back slightly, a green light enveloped Bonifacius as his health returned to full because ♕ cast Minor Restoration
The creature swing again to which Bonifacius replied with a Shield Bash causing rock particles to erupt as the creature was taken to about half of the original health and causing the jade armour to crumble off revealing more rocky flesh and tendrils.
XxFoxlyxX cast Spell Magnifier, a spell which magnifies the effect of any spell cast on or by an individual, for every time it's placed on a player it gets stronger, maxing out at a ten.
As if reading their moves perfectly, ♕ cast her spell next Guarding Thorns causing a neon-green, glowing ball of spikes to orbit Bonifacius' character and deal damage to any enemy that attacked him.
JohnWillStab proceeded to cast slash and kick until the creature reached about a quarter of its original health and shattered its rocky exterior, the black tendrils taking an amorphous shape, as they began casting a spell Bonifacius cast Defence Stance knowing that all magic damage he would take would also be multiplied, just in time JohnWillStab cast Gut Punch causing the spell casting to stop, but also causing the creature to shift towards him, in a single hit it dealt a quarter of his health, he turned to run as another Minor Restoration was cast upon him by ♕.
Bonifacius, in hopes of regaining the monster's attention cast Collasus Roar causing the shapeless blob of tendrils to instead move towards him, Bonifacius cast Severing Smash causing the creature to die splattering onto the ground into what looked like dozens of dead leaches and a puddle of tar.
"JohnWillStab: What the hell was that?!"
"Bonifacius: A corrupted golem, you'll see these a lot in the level thirty and forty zones..."
"XxFoxlyxX: Hey Bonifacius, what is the range of that roar spell you used?"
"Bonifacius: 100 meters, though it's decreased depending on the density of monsters, why?"
"XxFoxlyxX: ..."
"JohnWillStab: Hey, guys - why is the camera doing the trembling animation?"
"Bonifacius: ...thou don't think I aggroed a few monsters by accident, does thou?"
"XxFoxlyxX: ..."
"♕ : Fox, cast magic magnification on me as many times as you can... I think I'll need the boost to my healing magic..."
"XxFoxlyxX: Right... T_T"
After slaying another dozen or so monsters the group found a small room on the side of the hallway - it had about eight pillars placed in a box pattern in the square room, in the centre of the room was a large, black chest - when JohnWillStab hovered his mouse over it the tooltip 'Lead Chest' appeared.
"JohnWillStab: A treasure chest!"
"Bonifacius: Tis most likely a trap, I wouldn't recommend touching it!"
"JohnWillStab: Aw.."
"XxFoxlyxX: Last thing you want is some murder-golems spawning in..."
"Bonifacius: Tis true, more than once I have come across the cursed beings..."
"JohnWillStab: Are they different from corrupted golems?"
"Bonifacius: Indeed, a murder-golem is an undead creature made from a dozen or so corpses stitches together and wrapped in enchanted rags such that no magic or physical attack will harm it - once you see one - tis game over..."
"♕ : The chest is safe, you can go ahead and open it."
"XxFoxlyxX: I'll pass."
"JohnWillStab: Same..."
"A while of silence passed in chat."
"Bonifacius: Have some faith in our companion! I shall go and enjoy the treasures."
"♕ : Heh, thought so."
"♕ : ..."
"♕ : Wait, you will?"
"Bonifacius: Naturally, nothing is more important in a dungeon party than trust!"
In a private message window from XxFoxlyxX to JohnWillStab...
"XxFoxlyxX: how much you wanna bet it's a trap?"
"JohnWillStab: 3 gold say it's a trap."
"XxFoxlyxX: ...nevermind - I'm not taking the losing bet, lol."
Bonifacius approached the chest and started playing the opening animation, the sound of what everyone assumed was lockpicking or maybe just desperately trying to place a key in the hole whilst blindfolded felt like hours...
Click, the sound echoed as the lid of the rectangular chest opened revealing...
Silver x25
Scholar's footwraps x1
Minor health potion x2
"XxFoxlyxX: ...maybe the activation timer for the trap is just slow..."
"JohnWillStab: Would it still give you the loot then?"
"Bonifacius: Nay - cleary, this is a legitimate chest, you two need to have more faith in our healer."
"♕ : Naturally, if I wanted you dead I would have simply made the dungeon as a whole non-solid and let you fall into the abyss."
♕ was bluffing - changing something that big without moderator privileges crashed the server, dungeons are mini-server so everyone would just get kicked out to the entrance of the dungeon.
"Bonifacius: Perhaps not phrased perfectly, but the message is correct! Crown is not our enemy!"
JohnWillStab suddenly erupted into green lights, it looked like the level-up animation except for its green colour.
"JohnWillStab: WAS THAT THE TRAP!?"
"♕ : ... are you guys really sure he's ready for a dungeon?"
"XxFoxlyxX: You just levelled up a stat enough to unlock a new ability..."
JohnWillStab looked down to his skill-bar seeing a new ability Sprint allows the user to sprint at double the speed for an amount of time equal to their speed stat in seconds...
"JohnWillStab: Oh - I got a sprint spell..."
"Bonifacius: Congratulations."
"JohnWillStab: I'm sorry about that, Crown, I didn't mean to be that much of an as#@ole."
"♕ : Don't worry about it, everyone's nervous around new people!"
"you better be nervous because I'm about to make you people owe me one hell of a favour soon..." ♕ thought holding back laughter.
"Bonifacius: Right - I hope everyone's prepared! Because next up is the boss!"
