《One Piece's Messenger of the Sea》Life on Little Garden (2)

It took half an hour of hacking through the jungle to find a giant, and as he sat there staring at the one he found he was a bit shocked. It's one thing to know logically what to expect and quite another to come face to face with it. Morrow had started growing used to towering over others, but now he was only came up to another humanoid's knee.

Seriously, if they are so big then how tall is Oars?

Shaking off his shock he gave a hail to the giant, Dorry if he remembered right, who still hadn't noticed him and was currently cooking a dinosaur.

"Hello there!"

"Oh? A guest?"

"Be it, I'm Morrow. Nice to meet you."

"A funny guest.....do you have any rum?"

"...."

In the end Morrow went back to the boat and fetched the only barrel of rum he had as well as a smaller wine cask for himself. The rum probably wouldn't even count as a mug to Dorry, but as far as he was concerned the giant could have it. He'd only bought it because it was cheap and guests might like it, but personally he wasn't fond of it.

They were in the middle of discussing what Elbaf's customs were like when the volcano went off which was the signal for the duel.

"Sorry guest....I have to leave for a while. We can continue the story later."

"Okay. I've got some things to do as well. I'll come back later."

Of course, those 'things to do' was watching the duel. There's no way he'd miss it since he was curious. The manga had been wildly inconsistent on how strong the giants actually were. On one hand they one-shot a goldfish that supposedly ate islands, and on the other Brogy got beaten by Mr. 3 of all things.

As he sat on his perch in a tree as the giants clashed, he could honestly say Oda must have been drunk when he wrote that section. Dorry and Brogy were both strong enough to be worthy of being captains of giants hailing from the strongest nation in the New World, which meant they were at least Shichibukai-level. Although Morrow wouldn't praise their technical skill, the shockwaves bowling over trees next to where they clashed told the story.

How the hell did Mr. 3 ever manage to bind Brogy with wax? Even if it was stronger than steel, with his strength it should have easy to break out. The only reason I can think of for their inconsistent showing is that they were already exhausted from their fight.

Another thing he noticed is that neither of them seemed to be using haki, which was not a good sign for Morrow if he wanted to learn from them. He'd thought they would surely know since they had made names for themselves in the New World, but was it possibly just because of their race's innate strength?

The clang*clang*clang continued for over an hour without either so much as injuring the other, and after the initial appreciation of thei strength had worn off Morrow had lost interest. While they were certainly strong, there was nothing to gain by watching.

He returned to the boat for his own training for the day.

I am such an idiot!

The reason for Morrow's current bad mood lay in front of him, his log pose. It wasn't broken fortunately, but he had completely forgotten a critical part of the manga and had been reminded during a talk with Dorry that it takes a year for the pointer to re-orient from Little Garden to the next stop.

There were probably even permanent pointers in Whiskey Peak too if I had simply bought one too. Fuck!

Morrow had of course written down every little detail he could recall about One Piece in a journal he'd made all the way back in Orange Town, but there was no way he could recall every single minor detail. Now he was stuck here for a year or until someone else stops here with a permanent pointer shows up that he could steal or trade for.

After drowning himself in a cask of ale he started calming down and tried to go for an optimistic outlook. It was only a year after all, and training himself some more wouldn't hurt. He still needed to confirm what both the giants knew about haki, as even if they knew little like he feared it still might put him one step closer to figuring things out himself.

Back on center, he got down to planning for himself...
