CHAPTER TWENTY FIVE

Will I ever have the power that I want or need?

~

The big Horn Bear’s confusion didn’t last for very long

And though Twig’s dagger found its mark, its hide was much too strong

He’d thought to stab it in the neck and did so with great speed

But this was not a job for one as weak as him indeed

The Horn Bear turned its head as the attack had caused alarm

And when it did, it’s horn hit the boy squarely on the arm

The side of the horn wasn’t sharp but with the heavy hit

Twig flew several paces, though it only hurt a bit

He checked his left arm quickly and was quite surprised to see

Even though his shirt had ripped, there was no injury

The Horn Bear was the next to charge before Twig was prepared

But as its massive form approached the young boy wasn’t scared

For some reason he found the confidence to simply stand

And met the charge of the great beast with only his right hand

With all his strength he pushed back at the charge of the Horn Bear

And though it was unharmed he managed to stop it right there

It roared and kept on wrestling against the hand of Twig

Who realized he’d just held back an animal so big

It backed away and charged again, but things would go the same

Twig stood resolutely against every charge that came

Beneath Twig’s feet, two craters formed from the force of the blows

But still he held his hand out to repel the Horn Bear’s nose

He’d never stood as close as this to such a big monster

But even his friend’s pet dog once pushed him in the river

Achievement: ...

This just isn’t right, even if I never cursed you

This is not something that you should be able to do

Though you’ve trained, this sudden power up can not be right

If I didn’t know better I’d say you rigged the fight

Twig himself was also unsure what was happening

Had he made so much progress while he was still training

Or was his new status screen to blame for how he got so strong

Or did his brush with death do something to help him along

Another roar reminded him that he was not safe yet

The Horn Bear wouldn’t give up soon once its target was set

But this time Twig did more than push it back with his right hand

He kicked it and it flew so far it took a while to land

The Horn Bear stood up slowly with its head clearly in pain

But Twig felt fine despite feeling a little muscle strain

He felt intoxicated by the power he controlled

He felt just like a hero in a story being told

He ran toward the beast at once to deal the killing blow

The Horn Bear tried to stab him but its movements were to slow

Twig punched it so hard that he snapped off its largest horn

And noticed that the skin on his fist was just slightly torn

The Horn Bear groaned as it lay on the ground beneath the boy

Twig had always dreamed of such a moment to enjoy

He looked down at the beast and for a moment met its eyes

He’d always wondered what it looks like when a monster dies

Knowing that he should put it out of its of its misery

His eye began to blur and he suddenly felt dizzy

He stumbled back and tripped over a rock and hit the ground

Aside from ringing in his ears, he couldn’t hear a sound
