《Cruxborne Legends》1: Alpha Testing (1)

Who is this Markus Reeves?
Well, he was a competitive ESports gamer during his childhood and a little bit of his early teenage years. He played games like League of Legends, World of Warcraft, RuneScape, and many other titles on a professional level in a team alongside other teams during competitions, but things didn't last for long.
The reason why? It all happened because of the classic trope of slipping grades in school due to his excessive amount of time learning new mechanics in each game's update. His parents were understandably furious after receiving his latest report card from his school and pulled him out of the competitive leagues, but it was not without cost. This action doomed their financial abilities hard.
You see, with each competition won by him, his entire family was able to afford living in a modest home and spend money lavishly every year on his tuition fees. They were not too terribly rich since each competition's prize pool varied, but this one before he got pulled out had a five MILLION dollar payout. If they were just a tiny bit more greedy and didn't put too much stock into his failing grades a week before the competition was due to begin, they wouldn't have lost out on their entire livelihoods.
That all happened five years ago, but it wasn't the worst thing that happened to him. No, that 'honor' goes to the day he lost both his mother and father.
Unlike a certain famous orphaned boy with a lightning scar, Markus didn't lose his parents to some arsehole with a stick. He wished that was what he had happen instead of what really happened to them. No, how he lost them was a freak car accident involving a semi-truck. Even he didn't know why he was the sole survivor of the incident-albeit just barely surviving by the skin of his teeth-but that made him far too depressed to do anything else.

That event happened just a little over a year ago now on his 17th birthday. Today-however-was still his 18th birthday when Markus decided to check his emails.
As for why? Well, he had applied to various places online for job interviews, but with his credentials at the moment being somewhat inexperienced, he saw multiple rejections. Some didn't bother to respond to his email!
Before he could leave his inbox and go browse YouTube for videos from his favorite creators, Markus received a rather unusual email. It was from the company "Reality Interactive" and it was about an offer to test their flagship game called "Cruxborne Legends" for free.
He never heard of this company or game before, so he clicked open the email with his interest piquing.

The Way Ahead
What do you do when you don't fit in? Edwin never really felt many connections to other people, but as a physics student, that was fine. He didn't really need it, anyway. He was content to peel back the mysteries of the universe... not that there were many left to find. Modern-day research was just too well-established, too well-trodden for any single enthusiast to make any significant headway. But that doesn't apply to other worlds. Not ones where magic and Skills run rampant, where well-defined roles and Classes dominate much of society with little room for novel experimentation from its residents. That kind of world would be perfect for an overeager, newly-minted Alchemist to make his mark. Things are never that easy, though. The Way Ahead is a very slice-of-life story following the story of someone trying to find his place in a world that doesn't know what to do with him. Expect lots of science, lots of alchemy, a few sarcastic quips by the System, and lots of exploration involving the world, self-discovery, and above all, science. After all, further research is always required. Updates every other day at 9 AM PST. Congratulations! For writing a story during the month of November, you have unlocked the Royal Road Writathon Participant path!

Star Dragon's Legacy
Millennia have passed since the Dragons had found us. Millennia have passed since they left us, separating the world in plumes of eternal rainbow fire. Millennia have passed since people began to wonder: were we worth saving? Dragons were beings of myth. Now, people do what they can with the magic that works best for them, while trying not to get on the bad side of any powerful fae or nobles. A rare few are afforded the chance to meet credible proof of the Dragons, the undisputed heirs and heroes of this declined age: The Scaled. These Children of Dragons are stronger, hardier, and some would say far smarter that other humans, differentiated only by the horns on their head and scales on their skin. Rael is...not one of them. But Rael does need to protect one. Any and all feedback is appreciated. Don't touch the Patreon button, I still haven't finished setting it up.
