The Gem

This poem is for , who gives my formerly dull world color through her presence, her support, and her words of encouragement and wisdom.

The Poem

It is in your presence

I've found a happiness,

Emitting a beacon of light

That outshines the stars at night.

Though the road is rocky,

And I have many reasons to worry,

You put my mind at ease;

The effect you've always had on me.

And when I yearn for solitude,

When my heart is singing the blues,

You are there to bring me the assurance

That I need in my moments of weakness.

These words I utter alone are not sufficient

To convey how thankful I am for your presence;

Though the Lord knows how important you are

Indeed, you have a special place in my heart.

I've decided to write a second poem for this woman. It is a much deeper poem than the first one, because our relationship is no longer merely that of two fellow writers supporting each other. This woman's become my confidant, one of the few people that I can confide in about anything and everything without the fear of being judged or ridiculed.

It's very seldom that I encounter people as genuine, loyal, and understand as her. Whether she sees how much I value her or not, the Lord knows that she is very important to me. Whoever knows her well will agree with me, I'm sure.

Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity. Thank you for spreading kindness and love in this world filled with chaos and hatred. Thank you... for being you.
