《How I Slayed A Dragon》Chapter 105

(Dec 3)

My wife and I started our training today outside of the city walls since it allowed us more freedom to use our powers without drawing attention.

I wasn’t worried about monsters attacking since none of them were strong enough to pose a real threat to us.

“Alright. So what have you learned so far with Alisha?”

I started off simple, see where she’s at before we start doing anything.

My wife closed her eyes, and I could feel the magic in her body gather towards her hands.

She was bit inefficient, but that’s okay. She’s exactly the same way as I was when I was first starting off as well, so she’s on a good pace.

As her arms began transform into claws, I felt her stability subtly shake as The Grinch inside of her tried to awaken.

Since she was still on her medications, the urges are significantly weaker than they normally are, but they can pose a threat if she doesn’t control it properly.

Her powers are very similar to mine but is slightly riskier because if she loses control, the people around her are in danger.

Although I’ve also accidentally put others around me in danger as well, so I really can’t talk.

After she had finished transforming her hands into claws, I also transformed my hands into dragon claws.

Then we shook hands… or I guess I should say we shook claws?

I could feel the flow of her Grinch energy through her palm, and she could feel my dragon essence through mine.

She immediately tried to let go, but I gripped her hand.

Upon sensing my dragon essence, The Grinch inside of her must’ve been getting riled up.

Based on William’s experiments, we’ve concluded that The Grinch is attracted to my dragon essence and will become increasingly aggressive when exposed to it.

That meant it’ll be more difficult for my wife to control herself, which is exactly what I wanted.

I wanted to train her ability to control herself.

There were three things I wanted my wife to train: her control, instincts, and efficiency. I think those three things are the most vital for her master right now.

My wife quickly realized what I was doing, and calmed herself, supressing the rising energy that was trying to take over.

I nodded in approval and increased the level of difficulty by releasing even more of my dragon essence.

I began with a small amount, but slowly over time, I increased the amount of dragon essence that was exposed to my wife.

This allowed her to progressively develop greater control and dominance over The Grinch as the training went on.

And trust me, despite her ordinary appearance, she’s good at dominating. I’ve experienced it firsthand.

She was doing very well so I got kind of carried away and released a tad bit too much dragon essence, causing her control to momentary slip.

I quickly cut off my dragon essence and helped calm my wife down before she could fully lose control.

Overall, she did really well.

I let her rest a bit before moving on to the next training, which was to train her instincts.

If she could raise her instincts to even half as sensitive as mine, she would be able to avoid danger and even assassination attempts.

Honestly, unlike the other skills, I wasn’t sure how to train your instincts.

What I did was I blindfolded my wife, and then proceeded to walk around her in circles while trying my best to conceal my presence.

She would try her best to focus and figure out where I was, and occasionally, I would jump at her and pretend to attack her.

I was hoping that this would automatically activate her Grinch instinct system, but it didn’t work as intended.

I wasn’t sure if it was because she didn’t share the instincts that The Grinch has, or if maybe my pretend attacks didn’t contain any real harmful intent.

We can continue figuring that out another time though.

Finally, we moved onto the last thing I wanted her to train. It was how efficient she is when using her powers.

The Grinch is powerful, but just like me, it uses its energy too wildly and is not efficient at all.

By learning to efficiently use her powers, she’ll also be able to have better control as well.

For this training, I covered my wife in my web essence until she couldn’t move.

Then I instructed her to try to break free from my web essence.

The trick here is that my web essence will absorb her magic, so she will have to use enough energy to gain strength and break free, but if she uses too much, it’ll just get sucked away.

She had to find a balance and use her powers efficiently.

In the end, she wasn’t able to fully break out, but she did manage to free one of her arms which is impressive considering how long she’s been training for.

Several hours had passed, and both of us were satisfied with how things turned out and headed home for the day.

We’re probably going to continue training again tomorrow, since I don’t feel like going to work.

(Dec 4)

My wife informed me of something very strange today.

Just like yesterday, we both went out to train and things went well.

When I got home, I took a shower and left the bathroom naked since I forgot my pyjamas in my room (lately, I’ve been wearing pyjamas a lot during the day since they’re really comfy).

That’s when my wife noticed something on me.

Two tiny little things were growing out of my back.

Those tiny things were dragon wings.

2 small dragon wings about the size of my palm had suddenly started growing out of my back.

Since I’m part dragon already, the fact that I have dragon wings doesn’t surprise me, the issue here is why it started growing all of a sudden.

Up until now, I’ve always gained new abilities and dragon parts whenever dragonification happened, but I don’t recall experiencing dragonification recently.

So why did it start growing?

The only thing that’s close to dragonification was a few days ago when I was feeling stressed and depressed after the meeting with the Kenava, and then after a bit, felt really refreshed.

But being stressed and depressed isn’t an emotion, is it?

Hm.

Unless…

I have a theory.

What if dragonification isn’t limited to only emotions?

What we know so far is when a dragon experiences an emotion to a high degree, dragonification occurs, which causes it to lose that emotion in exchange for stronger power.

This is the basis of dragons. High mental stability equals more strength.

But how would dragonification differentiate between ordinary emotions and other psychological feelings or mental states?

The answer is it doesn’t.

Dragonification isn’t limited to emotions, it can occur for any feelings or mental state that intensifies enough.

Up until now, I’ve been thinking of dragonification and emotions as something limited to basic psychological things like, I dunno, happiness, anger, disgust.

These are usually what I’d think of when I hear the word emotion.

But that’s too simple.

So far, my usage of the term emotions has been too vague. I’ve read a few books in psychology before, but in the end, I’m not a psychologist nor someone well versed in psychology at all. (In fact, I don’t even know if I’m using these science terms correctly)

In this case though, I have reasons to believe emotions can also refer to other psychological states such as stress, depression, motivation, laziness, arousal, shock, etc.

These are all mental states that can be psychologically experienced, but aren’t considered as emotions, at least by me.

And I think these can all activate dragonification if they intensify enough.

Of course, this is all speculation from an uneducated man, but I’d say it has a high chance of being true and would explain everything that’s happened.

And if it is true, it’d make things a lot more troublesome.

It would vastly increase the scope of emotions that dragonification can occur on.

I could also lose any emotional or mental states that I’m not even in control of.

Emotions like anger and joy can be controlled to a certain extent, but it’s hard to control if I feel tired, or stressed, or extremely motivated or whatever.

I don’t exactly remember all the times that dragonification has happened, but here’s a list of the ones I do remember:

Fear – Lost during fight against wyvern – obtained dragon claws.

Disgust – Lost when I saw a victim of The Grinch – obtained dragon tail.

Despair, or perhaps shock(?) – Lost when I found out my wife was The Grinch – Strengthen my dragon instincts.

Stress, or maybe depression(?) – Lost after the meeting with the Kenava – obtained dragon wings.

As you can see, it’s already getting confusing keeping track of what emotions I’ve lost so far, since it’s not limited to just emotions.

Hm.

Surprisingly though, I’m calmer than I thought I would be.

The thought of losing my emotions doesn’t concern me as much as it used to.

Maybe it’s because I’ve already lost stress to dragonification. Or perhaps I’ve become more carefree. Who knows.

Regardless, I think William would like to hear about this.

I’m planning to visit him tomorrow to let him know about this theory I came up with and hear what he has to say about it.

In the meanwhile, I’m going to show off my tiny wings to Gabi.

She’s going to be so excited to see them.
