《Safe at Last》Mr. Davis

Once she opened the door, I swallowed deeply. I had to force myself not to run away as I stood there, not moving. After a few seconds, I had to force myself to walk inside. As soon as she closed the door, I noticed him sitting at his desk chair. His hair remained him in the style that I saw him with the first time. But it seems as if he got his hair redone.

I stood near the door as Ariana closed it. I managed to keep eye contact with him for a few seconds, before I looked away. The wall caught my eye as I noticed paintings from what seems to be of Greek Mythology. I do like Greek Mythology but I'm not that familiar with it. "Come over here." My head snapped to where he sat as my legs started to move without a thought in mind.

As soon as I made it near his desk, his eyes never left mine. "Sit down." I took off my backpack and did as told. Lorenzo looked over me as if he's evaluating me. He didn't say a word in what feels like hours but I'm sure it wasn't.

"How are you feeling?" Was the first thing he asked.

"Better." He nodded his head as he continued looking at me. After a while, he sat back in his chair, as he grabbed a file on his desk. Proceeding to go through it, he tapped on his desk. I noticed the bruises on his knuckles started to heal as well.

"What made you apply here?"

"Umm, a family friend applied here for me. I thought it would be a great way to boost my career." I felt somewhat happy with my response. I didn't know whether to slap myself across my forehead or smile. Lorenzo just nodded his head as he looked to be deep in thought.

"This job requires you to be on call for me 100% of the time. Considering you're still a high school student, you'll have to focus on both tasks. I do not like late work, nor do I appreciate no call no show. If you do not do well the first week you're here, you will be fired. Do you understand me?" I nodded my head quickly as I listened to him speak. His voice sounded like a siren pulling me into the deep waves of darkness.

Something about him seemed strange.... a little off shall I say. I don't know what it is but it kind of frightens me. "I asked you a question and I expect a verbal response."

"Yes sir." I added as I begin to scratch my finger against my hand. It's always been sort of a coping mechanism for whenever I become anxious. His demeanor changed along with my answer. It switched from dominant to a little bit relaxed.

He seems pleased with my answer as he throws the file back on his desk. "No one here knows my business. If you so happen to tell anyone anything, there will be consequences. As for that night, it didn't happen. Don't bring it up to anyone."

Once again, I said "yes sir" as he stood up. His chains around his neck clanked together as he came closer to me. "I expect you to impress me. You're younger than everyone else here but that doesn't mean you're stupid. You'll start off with simple tasks at first. Getting me coffee, answering calls, responding to emails, and so forth. Don't make me regret hiring you."

"Okay" was all I could say as I mentally did a cheer in my head. I stayed in my chair as he slanted himself against his desk. I could see his entire front. Everything was on full display. My eyes seemed to travel by themselves as they stopped at his print, but I hurried up to look away.

"You start tomorrow. Stop by Ariana's desk before you leave and she'll give you a packet for your position." A smile appeared on my face as I couldn't help it. I got the job. Even after everything I've been through. Maybe there is a God after all.
