A letter for Harkon...

Forewarning - If thou are not a member of the Church and have come across this letter either via theft or by accident, it is highly advised that you return it to its owner. By the honor of the Church, no charges will be made against you. If thou are unable to do so, do not open and read its contents and simply burn the correspondence instead. Failure to follow these instructions will mark thee as a target of Holy Elimination!

Now then...

From Cardinal Vesper of the 7th Roseland Cathedral, to his dear friend and faithful Lord Inquisitor, Nathan E. Harkon.

My friend, are you alright? Your letter was full of errant thoughts and an almost defeated tone! Why, this is entirely unlike you! We hath previously exchanged correspondence such as this while you were on the path to hell itself, breaking behind the enemy lines and infiltrating the very lairs of wicked cultists. Yet no matter what horrors you saw or which abominations you fought during these trying events, you've never once sounded as desperate and beaten as you do now...

I... I must apologize for underestimating the gravity of your mission to Arroed, my friend, and so, I strongly believe that I owe you a more proper explanation, so as to, if nothing else, serve to soothe your troubled mind, if only slightly. Alas, let me begin with what will potentially be grave news to you; I cannot send another of your fellow inquisitors to aid you for the mission you have been given is divine in nature. I simply trust no one else to accomplish it rightly!

As you've no doubt realized by now, the true nature of your venture to the Lumenhart mansion was never to do anything against the heretics inhabiting Gelidgate. Not directly, anyways, that was merely a side objective, not the primary goal.

Nay, your primary goal has and still-remains, to observe and spy on the developments surrounding the young lord; Leon Lumenhart. From what I managed to understand whilst reading your last inquisitorial log, the boy has become positively psychopathic in nature, seeming to almost fit neatly into the lie, the 'explanation' for the changes he has showcased, both physical and mental, to the world.

In this selfsame letter, you have managed to predict that there was indeed a divine revelation pertaining to the boy... but it was not me who was the recipient.

No, rather, it was her.

The Regal Rose Of Heaven.

Now, you may begin to understand the gravity of your situation and the importance of your mission. I cannot tell you more and what I can tell you has already been deeply discussed with my fellow cardinals here at the cathedral, many of whom feel for you after having shared in the despairing depths of your letter to me. Forgive me, friend, for sharing this with others, I know that you value your privacy over most things, but I could not have been more shocked at what I read that day and so, I had to seek the counsel of others, whom shared in my stupefaction all.

Continuing on with the explanation, the Rose locked herself in a meditative chamber for the past few days and emerged with a glorious revelation from the gods themselves!; one that has aided us in finding three other chosen heroes of the gods themselves. These children, once grown, represent the powers of our united faiths, to banish the darkness and slay the Demon King once the time comes.

As for the boy... do not worry, for he is not our enemy, or so at least, the Rose claims, and I for one, am inclined to trust her word.

He is... as she described him and uhm, well, pardon me for merely repeating what I'd heard; a 'cheat character', whose presence as an ally in the upcoming war, while not strictly required for victory, will ensure a far more positive result for our side. From what I can tell you, the boy, though not chosen by the gods, is going to be powerful, perhaps even more so than our own chosen heroes.

More than that, the Rose claims that with him on our side, the armies gathered to fight against the dark will double in size and include many other races, not just those of our usual allies, such as the noble elves and stout dwarves, but also the orcs! ORCS!; my friend! And many forms of beastkin, as well.

I'd never even considered such a thing a possibility. The orcs have always sided with the demons at worst and remained neutral at best. As for the others, the centuries of oppression and slavery performed upon them by our kind saddens me greatly, but to hear that they are possible allies in this fight gladdens my heart nonetheless.

Do you see, my friend? The potential of this future that the Rose has witnessed!? An end to oppression, to slavery and the torture of our fellow sapient beings!

I know not what sort of character this young lord truly is, but if he can truly accomplish all of this? I am more than willing to accept a little madness and I hope that, in time, so can you.

Best of luck, friend.

Cardinal Vesper.
