《Lawfully Wedded》Chapter 19

"What the fuck!" I screamed, teary eyed as I walked into the office and slammed the bag down on the floor.
"Sanjana," Nisha called softly.
"Leave me alone! I can't fucking deal with humans now," I snapped as I sank down on the floor.
How could people be so cruel? How is fucking Mr. Puri still alive and not dead already?
Today was the hearing for the acid attack victim and Mr. Puri, not so surprisingly, was the lawyer for those people and somehow even though I knew we were about to win this case, that asshole I don't know what he did but he asked for another hearing date and the judge granted it!
I don't know how long I sat there, seated on the floor, crying due to the frustration but I finally got up as I wiped my tears and walked out for some coffee.
I ignored everyone as I made myself strong coffee. I walked back to the office and started reworking on my file. I decided that I was not going to let these people get away the next time. I couldn't let that happen.
I didn't know how long I might have worked, I only realised I had been working for a long time when Rohan called me.
"Are you going to come home today? Or you're planning to spend a night there only?"
"I'm sorry I lost track of time, I'll be home soon," I murmured as I packed my bag and immediately left the building, too scared that I was alone.
I drove home, still a little pissed by today's events.
"Hey guys," I greeted mom, dad, Sunil and Monica as I entered the room.
"Sanjana," mom said in a tone that hinted to me that she knew what had went down in the court room and she was sorry for it.
"Mom, I'm tired and I don't want to talk about it," I said as I avoided eye contact with everyone and made my way to my room.

I ignored Rohan as I entered the room and dropped my belongings on the sofa before curling under the thick blanket and stuffing my face in the pillow.
"Sanjana,"
"Rohan please na yaar,"
"Sanjana, I think you need to be happy that you didn't lose the case yet, trust me that is much worse," he said.
"I am losing this one, you should have seen the evidences they provided, how even though they were forged, they seemed real," I mumbled, tears welling in my eyes.
"Yeah but you tried Sanjana, don't forget that and we have another date, we'll work things out,"
"I feel like I've failed," I mumbled.
"No you didn't, and stop thinking like that okay? We'll win this case," he said.
I turned my head a little to look at him, his eyebrows were furrowed as he stared at me.
"Thank you Rohan,"
"Ah there it is, that smile," he said softly and I snorted as I looked away.
°
"Come on guys, we're here because we're planning on how to win that case and I swear to God I am going to strangle everyone if we lose the case," I joked half-heartedly.
Rohan, who had come to office today, snorted next to me as he shook his head.
We started working and re-analysed our weak point and our weak evidences and corrected all those things for the next two hours.
"Thank you so much guys, you all can leave, thank you!" I said as I stood up and led them outside.
After they'd all left, I sank into my chair and closed my eyes.
"We'll win this case right Ro?"
When I didn't receive any answer, I raised an eyebrow as I opened my eyes and stared at him. He was grinning like a Cheshire cat.
"'Right Ro?' My my warn me before you give such heart attacks,"
"Wh--" I closed my mouth shut realising what I'd done, I'd called him Ro instead of Rohan.

Ah fuck! How could I? And that too so casually? Oh my God!
"Rohan I--"
"No, if you're comfortable with it I'd gladly be Ro for you," he said with a contagious smile that had my lips turning up in a smile as well.
"I-- okay," I said.
"Let's go home? I'm am sleepy," he said.
"Yeah," I said.
I wheeled him into the elevator and then into the parking lot and with the help of the Watchman, transferred Rohan into the passenger seat before driving home.
"I'm happy today," he mumbled while his eyes were closed as we were stuck in traffic.
Upon not hearing anything from me, he opened his eyes. Coincidentally, we both moved towards the radio at the same time and our fingers brushed in the process. I immediately retreated my finger and tightened it around the steering wheel and Rohan pressed play and some Bollywood song started playing.
I cleared my throat and said, "I'm glad you're happy."
"You wouldn't ask why?" He asked as he rested his head against the window.
"No," I said as I turned my head to look at him.
He opened his mouth to say something but like every other time, he was interrupted and this time by the honking of cars around us.
We drove home in silence only the occasional honking of cars around us and the soft music in the background.
As I parked in the parking lot, I called dad for help.
"Ah there you guys are, come on now dad," I said and I retrieved the wheelchair and placed it on the ground.
Dad transferred him to the wheelchair and wheeled him inside. It's only been two weeks and he'll be on wheelchair for another two weeks, all because of those assholes.
"You came at the right time, dinner is ready, come on wash your hands and join us, today Monica helped me prepare lasagna,"
"What? I hope you prepared a lot, it's one of my favourites," I squealed as I rushed inside the kitchen to wash my hands.
"Yes of course I did, Rohan and Sunil love this a lot as well," mom said.
We ate dinner in silence with the occasional chatter of how our day was and what we did. I could see Sunil and Monica giving each other meaningful stares and when I caught them once, they feigned innocence.
"Mom, I'll wash the dishes, you guys go settle," I said as I picked up the dishes.
"I'll help," Monica said as we both piled the dishes in the wash basin.
Monica has started talking a few days back, she was crying that day, she'd apparently spoken a word after three years.
"So, what is it you wanna talk about?" I said as soon as we were alone.
"I want to tell you and Rohan what happened, and I'll be re-starting my law study so I'll need your guidance,"
"Re-starting?"
"Rohan, Sunil and I met in a law school Sanjana, they both were my seniors, I'll tell you once we are done with this,"
"Mhmm so it's a senior junior romance I see," I commented with a smirk.
"Shut up," she blushed as she swatted me with a towel.
"My my you're shy now aren't you?"
"Oh yeah? And you wanna talk about Rohan and you?"
"Mom, do you guys want ice-cream?"
"And I'm the shy one, look at you trying to change the topic like that," she said.
So I've got reading glasses, today was my appointment and idk when I'll get those glasses but I think I'll have to get them soon.

The Ruined Monks of Rothfield Monastery
Erin is the youngest member of the dark monks; a supernatural brotherhood whose ultimate mission is to improve the dire circumstances of poor, war-torn villages using powers unique to each member. Or so he was led to believe. Erin, like his brothers, does not age, and that is, unfortunately, the only trait he shares with them. He cannot charm or compel like Woodrow, he cannot cast illusions like Knox, he was not swift like Swithin, not powerful like Blake. He was barely an assistant to his dear brother Wilbur, with his herbology and alchemy. He was told to lie low and make himself scarce. That is what he did. The dark monks temporarily reside in abandoned monasteries scattered around the country, feeding the poor and healing the sick, nurturing the monastic lands until it was fertile enough to raise crops and rear animals. As the years passed, they would leave these reformed, repopulated, self-sustaining monasteries and venture froth to help the next settlement. Yet, after years of toiling and quiet servitude, Erin notices that people and the country itself are declining. The villagers look gaunt, the once-lush soil now barren and cracked. He begins to feel disheartened, thinking that their mission is proving futile. Still, their leader Blake is steadfast and charges onward, and lately has his eyes set on a certain monastery in a thick, thorned forest that seems to diminish, even nullify their powers. A thick forest that Erin somehow has a connection to. A thorned glade where an ethereal voice calls his name with one simple request along with a promise:Heal the land, child. Heal the land and I promise to give you sanctuary so long as you stay. I promise to nurture you as you nurture me. As Erin cultivates the land, the land, in turn, gifts all its caretakers with new, enhanced skillsets on top of their unique powers -- skills of protection, healing, and magic. Magic. Erin had long wished to see the world fill with it again. The people, regardless of common or noble blood, still believe that magic will enter this world again. Magic to bless the king like it did the Saints. Magic to dispel the miasma befouling the world. Magic to bring back the fae folk and their many forms. It is up to Erin to forge the many paths leading to a bright future; to build a prosperous paradise that welcomes all races and bloodlines, by mastering the rewards gained through agriculture, horticulture, and animal husbandry, smithing, crafting, and fishing. Erin may also find a lifelong friendship and romance with his neighbor, Claude, if he decides to pursue him, and may even join him in the military campaign outside the monastery. The darkness still lurks outside, after all, and the mastery of his skills, along with a few good friends, may finally be enough to turn the tide in their favor. Most of all, Erin wants to keep the vow he set for himself: to protect everyone and everything he loves until his dying breath.
