《Lawfully Wedded》Chapter 5

When I came to, I noticed I was lying on a hospital bed and my parents were sitting right next to me.
"Sanju, you scared me," dad said as he stared at me and wrapped his arms around me.
I smiled and wrapped my arms around him. I found Rohan sitting in the corner of the room, staring at me intently.
"I'm sorry, I think it was the sandwich,"
"It was not and you know it very well!" Mom snapped at me. She had unshed tears in her eyes as the stared at me.
"Dad," I said softly.
"Calm down honey, she just woke up and let's go get something for her to eat okay?" He asked as he pulled mom to her feet and wrapped an arm around her before leading her to the door.
"You should have told me you were feeling uncomfortable," Rohan said as soon as my parents were out of the room.
"I wasn't uncomfortable," I snapped as I glared at him.
"Right because a sandwich led you to puking and passing out on the hospital floor? Do you know how scared I was? How you freaked out your parents? And you know what Sanjana, if you don't want to tell don't tell me but do not lie to me,"
"I--"
"And I know those eyes okay? I'd failed to read those eyes last time but this time I wouldn't. I know how calculative you are, how you panic when you're surrounded only by strangers, I've noticed it," he said softly.
Last time? What did he mean by that?
Before I could ask the question, my parents and Sonia entered the room.
"My god you're jobless or what?" I groaned as Sonia wrapped her arms around me.
"Mhmm jobless for my bratty sister," she said and I smiled.
"I'm fine guys, stop fussing over it," I whined when mom started stuffing my mouth with something healthy.
"Urmm.. I need to leave, I'm so sorry but my mother just called me and she needs my help for something," Rohan said as he got up.

My dad hugged Rohan and thanked him for being there for me as he led him outside.
"Ma, do you see those goo goo eyes?" Sonia said and I narrowed my eyes at her before throwing a spare pillow at her.
"Shut up," I grumbled as I lied down on the hospital bed.
"Should we continue with the engagement?" Mom asked.
"Honey, give her some rest will you?" Dad said as he walked in.
"Fine!" Mom sighed.
"But Sanju, he's a nice guy, I know it, when we reached here, he was frantic, he even threatened a doctor to sue him because he was so scared," dad said.
"Okay," I said in a small tone. I doubted if they even heard me but the way my mother and Sonu broke out in huge smiles told me that they'd heard me clearly.
"Oh my god! Yes yes yes!" Mom said as she danced a little.
Who would say she was a mother of two grown-ups?
"Mom, my five hundred rupees please?" Sonia said and my eyes widened as I realised what she was asking five hundred for.
"You bet on us?"
"Haha yes!" Sonia said as she took the money from mom.
"My god, these kids," dad said as he shook his head.

I was late. I rushed in the building, almost spilling my coffee in the process
"Doors closing,"
"Wait wait wait!" I said as I ran towards the lift. The doors which were half closed opened as Rohan greeted me with a smile on his face.
"Good morning Sanjana," he said. He was extra cheery today.
"Uh, g-good morning,"
"So, I see that you finally agreed for our engagement, couldn't resist my charm I see?"
"Charm my ass," I said not caring for the fact that he was my boss. In response I got a laugh.
"My parents thought you were the perfect match since you're better than those they've seen," I said as I leaned on the wall of the life.

"And what about you?"
"Me?"
"Yeah,"
"I thought... I thought you were--"
"Doors opening,"
"Bye!" I exclaimed as I ran out of the lift and into my office.
Saved my the life.
The door to my office opened and in walked Rohan.
Or not.
"You thought?"
"That you were a nice human being," I said and started working on the file from yesterday. I could see from my peripheral vision that he smiled before he left my room.
The medical report stated that they had infact raped Rashi and luckily all the results were collected. I was happy for the fact that we had all the evidence and that with a lawyer like Rohan, who would be leading the case, I knew we would be bringing justice to Rashi. I just wished that more people like Rohan existed, lawyers who weren't motivated by the monetary fact and that they fought the case with all honesty.
Once I'd printed out and file everything we needed for Rashi's case, I went to give Rohan the file.
"Ro-Mr. Rohan," I corrected myself when I found that there were people sitting inside the room.
"Come in Sanjana," Rohan said and then gestured for me to sit.
Rohan was apparently briefing two lawyers one the case they were to present tomorrow. It was a murder case and I zoned out of it as I took in the office. On my first day I hadn't really admired the office. The sun was almost setting and looking at it from the 25th floor, how it cast a beautiful golden light, it made me feel at peace.
"I take it you like my office,"
"Yeah, it's nice," I said and realised that the two lawyers had left and it was only us both.
"Are you ready with the file?" He asked as he settled down.
"Yeah,"
He looked through the file with a smile on his face and when he closed it and kept it on the table, I sat up straight.
"I must say, I pity those firms who didn't hire you,"
"Hmm?"
"I like the way you've presented everything, and I think it'll be a good start for you and that it'll be alright to say that we've almost won this case, we have so many evidences, me have the medical results, the pictures that Rashi had and the video recording,"
"It's strange to know that she kind off knew it would happen and this time she was recording it, she just didn't know to what extent her abuse would be,"
"Yeah and I swear I'd kill these people if the law wasn't forbidding me to do so, these men who think they own women and that they can do anything to them just because women, most women don't fight back," he said and I smiled as I looked at his face which was contorted in anger.
"I hear something personal under that tone of yours," I said and he looked at me before shaking his head.
"Anyways, I'm done with today so I'll be taking a leave, see you on Monday, should I come to the court or to the office?" I asked as I stood up.
"Meet me at the court, oh wait, would you be fine? Like I don't want you to be uncomfortable,"
"Just because I fainted because of a trigger doesn't mean I'll faint again!" I snapped but then immediately regretted my words. His words had been genuine when he asked me that question.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to say that,"
"It's okay,"
"And let's meet at the court only," I said before rushing out of the office and packing for the day.
