《Lawfully Wedded》Chapter 6

"Hello," I said as I walked inside the courtroom, greeting Rohan and a familiar face from office, the name of the person, I didn't remember.
"Hi, it's good to see you," Rohan said as he stared at me before realising it was creepy and he turned away.
Rashi was here too with her family. I smiled and waved in their direction before taking place next to Rohan.
"Ah don't worry, I've got it all under control," a familiar voice, a voice that belonged to a person I loathed a lot reached my ears. I stiffened and I felt Rohan's concerning glance my way.
I clenched my fists as I turned to stare at the man, he too seemed to turn in my direction the same time and he must have recognised who I was because he stilled and smirked in my direction. This time Rohan straightened his back and shifted a little closer to me.
The man in front of me was a little older than the last time I'd seen him, I opened my mouth to say something but my brain had seemed to have frozen.
"I see a familiar face," he casually muttered to no one in particular and sat on the table that was on the other side of the room.
"Sanjana, do you know him?" Rohan asked a little hesitantly.
"Not well but enough to know that I would probably murder him if he and I were alone," I said and Rohan cast me a concerned glance and he opened his mouth to say something but was interrupted when the judge walked in. I noticed that man's smirk widened and I didn't need to know more to put two and two together.
"Son of a bitch," I muttered under my breath and Rohan looked at me again.
I wrote a small chit and passed it to Rohan.
"No way, judges don't take bribe," he said.
"Trust me, I know what this man works like even though it is my first year as a practicing lawyer, however we have enough evidence to win this one," I said.
°
"Sir I would like to question Ms. Rashi," that man said and Rashi looked at us hesitantly before I nodded my head.
She did the usual process of the court of swearing by Geeta before sitting down on the chair that they had provided for her.
"So Ms. Rashi, you were married to Mr. Ajay for a month I suppose,"
She nodded her head.
"How many times has he physically abused you?"
"I don't go around counting that but enough times to be counted as domestic violence sir, he has even tried to sexually abuse me," she said.
"Rashi, when you're married and your partner and you are intimate, it's not called sexual abuse," he said with a sly smile and my fists clenched and I stood up to say something but Rohan's hand came around my fist and stopped me.

"Sex or I suppose being intimate it when your partner is willing to be intimate, but when one party says no and the other still does so, it's called sexual abuse," Rohan said.
"We didn't ask for your input Mr. Rohan," the man said with a smirk before he continued his questioning with Rashi.
"Why when all the other times you didn't do it and on that day, you recorded the whole incident? Were you purposefully trying to make him angry so that he would beat you? Were you looking for the trouble? Was this all your plan?"
"Wha--"
"Because your honour, my client Ajay has told me that Rashi, had tried to blackmail my client into giving him money and when he didn't, she would threaten him that she would suicide, and now this drama! It makes me wonder if she's mentally sane even,"
"Your honour!" Rohan exclaimed.
"Mr. Puri!" The judge warned him.
"I rest my case here by saying that on the video, we are not sure for certain that it is my client Ajay and his friend because the faces are not clear and my client has a strong alibi that he was on a business trip for two days and here are the receipts," that vile man offered the proof to the judge and then sat down not before throwing a smug smile in our glance.
Rohan rose and cleared his throat before walking towards where Rashi was sitting. He stood there for some time and then he chuckled.
"I'm sorry for that, I just pity the women related to these vile men," Rohan said and the judge warned him.
"Sorry, urmm so where were we? Ah the alibi's, but it makes me wonder your honour that when they had such strong alibi's, how was it that their sperm samples matched? How is it that their jaw sample matched with the bite marks? And to answer Mr. Puri's question, no sir, women don't enjoy getting beaten up, women don't enjoy getting sexually assaulted, I know for the fact that if someone slapped you, you wouldn't enjoy it, maybe you'd deserve it but that is a whole different thing," I smiled at the last comment and the judge warned Rohan once again.
"And I have another witness I'd like to summon,"
"You may proceed," the judge said and Mr. Puri cast the judge a meaningful look.
A man walked in and the same procedure was repeated before he stood, he little scared and I noticed how he kept casting Mr. Puri furtive looks.
"Your honour, this man is the manager of the resort where apparently Ajay was staying,"
My goodness. Rohan was hell bent on winning this case.
"He brings with him the camera recording of 25th and 26th, which were apparently the dates which Ajay and his friend claim in their alibi's, here," he said as he offered the USB, and we all the the whole video only to find that Ajay and his friend never came on those days.

"As you can clearly see here your honour, that Ajay and his friend as no where visible, which I think gives a clear indication of their fake alibi,"
"I would rest my case here," he said as he came and sat next to me.
°
Ajay and his friend were facing a lifetime in jail.
Ajay was arguing with that vile creature he glared at me. As everyone started leaving, Mr. Puri waited for me and Rohan.
"I see you've not changed, it makes me pity your daughter," I commented as I walked closer to that man. Rohan was standing beside me as he looked between me and that vile creature.
Mr. Puri's face contorted in anger as he opened his mouth to say something.
"Oh no wait, you don't even know where your daughter is," I said with a pout.
"You think you've got a mouth now because you have Rohan? Maybe he should have come years ago," he said with a smirk, taking a dig at the old wound expecting me to falter but my grin only widened.
"Beware, some day these rapists that give you so much money and whose crimes you hide so effectively may rape your wife or your daughter and you'd be able to do nothing," I said as I glared at him before walking away.
As soon as I was out of the room, I leaned against the walls and was breathing heavily.
"Sanjana, are you okay?" Rohan asked.
"Yeah just peachy," I muttered as I sat down in Asian squat and buried my face in my hand.
"You go, I'll meet you tomorrow," I heard Rohan and heard retreating footsteps before he sighed and sat down next to me.
"You know Mr. Puri," Rohan said as a matter of fact. He didn't ask anything else. I looked up from my hands and nodded at him.
"You know I'm learning to connect pieces together--"
"Don't, I don't wanna talk about it," I said.
"Just know that I'm here, I'll always be here," he said and the sincerity in his tone overwhelmed me.
°
"Mom,"
"Oh my god, the guests are doing to come, we've done nothing and you're not even ready, should we cancel it?"
"Mom," I called again.
"They are not going to like these, the caterers are also not here, oh no this is going to be a failure, I don't know what--"
"Mom!" I yelled this time and she immediately stopped blabbering.
"I just need to wear this saree okay? And the caterers are here and we don't have many guests coming anyways okay? And the decor looks perfect okay! Now shoo and get ready, you're my mother, you need to look good too," I said and gently shoved her into her room.
I was officially getting engaged today. And our wedding was going to take place a week after this engagement.
Oh what a mess.
I immediately wore the saree and walked downstairs to find Rohan's family already there. Their chatter died down as I approached them. I could feel Rohan staring at me as I talked to his mother.
"My my, Rohan can't stop looking at you," his mother said with a sweet smile on her face.
I didn't say anything as I stared at her.
"Come on kids, it's 8 and the auspicious time is only till 8:30," dad said. Sunil, he'd asked me to call him that since we're going be in laws now, walked Rohan to the sofa and Sonu helped me to the sofa.
"Can you stop staring at me?" I hissed.
"I'm sorry, but you look too gorgeous," Rohan said.
"Lessgo jiju!" Sonu hollered and I glared at her.
"Sonu, pass your sister the ring," dad said rolling his eyes at his youngest daughter's behaviour.
"Here," Sonu said as she opened box and I took the ring in my trembling hands.
Rohan offered me his left hand and I didn't do anything as I stared at his hand. Doubts and negative thoughts overcame my mind.
"Sanjana," Rohan whispered softly. I looked up to find him staring at me intently.
"You can trust me," he said so low only for me to hear.
I placed my hand under his and he shivered as I slid the ring in his ring finger. He held mine softly and tenderly as he gently slid the ring in my finger.
I heard a gasp beside me and that broke me out of the trance.
"Oh my god jiju! This ring is so beautiful," Sonia gushed and I looked at the ring in my hand.
"It is," I said.
After some time as we were eating dinner, Rohan sitting next to me as Sonia and Sunil sat opposite us.
"Sunil any chance I can marry you?" Sonia asked playfully and Sunil laughed and I gaped at my sister.
"Sonu!" I reprimanded.
"No Sonia, my heart belongs to only one girl," Sunil said sincerely although he knew Sonia was joking.
"I'm joking Sanju, you know I'll only be marrying the guy who defeats me in chess," Sonia said and I rolled my eyes before focusing on my food.
"Good luck because I don't think you're ever going to find anyone then," I muttered.
"Shut up!" Sonia snapped as she focused on eating and I chuckled at her.
