《Lawfully Wedded》Chapter 2

As soon as they left, my parents cornered me.
"Perfect?"
"Wasn't he the best?"
"Mom dad, leave me alone," I murmured before leaving the hall and rushing to my room only to find my sister sitting there.
"Tell me," she said as she propped on her elbows on my bed.
"Sonu, it's my bed and weren't you angry with me?" I asked as I removed the eye-liner.
"Stop being a bitch,"
"Language Sonu!" Mom reprimanded as she entered my room and after her followed my father.
"Great!" I groaned.
"His mother said that it would be better if you two met in a restaurant and spoke more freely,"
"Haha keep dreaming papa,"
"Sanju, wasn't he good?" He asked as he furrowed his eyebrows.
"I don't know dad,"
"I think he was decent," mom said.
"Of course you would think so,"
"No darling, it's not that, I spoke to his mother and I know it's not my story to tell you but he really is so much better than the last guy," she said and I sighed.
"I don't know mom and he did seem nice but what if he's just acting decent and after marriage he'll turn out to be an ass,"
"Language!" Both mom and dad reprimanded.
"I'm sorry," I said as I laid down on my bed.
"You'd like to meet him tomorrow?" Mom asked me softly.
"Yeah," I said and soon they left me alone.
I was sleepy but tonight I couldn't find myself to fall asleep. I stared blankly at the ceiling.
I heard a knock on my bedroom door.
"Sanju,"
"Yes dad?" I asked as I sat up.
"Can I come in?"
"Of course,"
He walked in as sat next to me.
"You do know we're not forcing you to do anything right?"
"Yes dad,"
"And that if you don't like this guy, we won't disown you,"
"I know dad,"
"I just want you to give him a chance okay? If you still don't like this guy, we'll not ask you to marry anyone, you can stay single forever, society be damned," he said and I just nodded my head.
"I will give him a chance,"
"I know you're scared honey," he said as he took my hands in his.
"I'm sorry I'm not brave enough dad, I'm still so scared,"

Dad wraps his arms around me as he pulled me in a hug.
"You are the bravest girl Sanju," he said as he kissed my head.

"Good morning sleepy head," Sonia said and I smiled. No matter how much we fight, she's always the first one to greet me good morning and she's just always there sitting in my chair waiting for me to wake up.
"You know I love you right?"
"Of course and who wouldn't love this legend?" Sonia asked and I chuckled as chucked a pillow in her direction.
"Good morning Sonu," I murmured as I got up and stretched.
"All set for today?"
"What-- oh yeah,"
"Mom sent me to help you get ready but I know you don't need my help and I'm too lazy so I'll just sit in this room so it looks like I'm helping you while you get ready okay?"
"Brat," I said giving her a playful stink eye before leaving to take a shower.
As I got ready Sonia just hummed and waited for me.
"I'm ready,"
"'I'm ready' atleast put some lipstick," she said as she handed me the lipstick.
"I'd rather not,"
"Then a lip balm please," she groaned.
"Okay," I huffed before applying it and taking my handbag and dragging Sonia out of my room.
"Mom, where am I meeting him?"
"Lilly's Cafe," mom said.
"Okay then, wish me luck, your daughter is going on a war,"
"Good luck Sanju and at any time you feel uncomfortable, feel free to walk right out of the café," dad said.
"Sure," I said before driving over to the café.
As I entered the café, I found Rohan already sitting there. He must have heard the jingling of the door because he looked up from his phone and waved.
"Hello Ms. Sanjana,"
"Hi," I said as I settled in front of him.
"What would you like to order?"
"Cheese sandwich and strawberry smoothie please," I said and he motioned for the waitress.
"Two cheese sandwiches, orange juice and a strawberry smoothie please," he said and then we settled in an awkward silence as we waited for our orders.
What were we supposed to talk about?
"I'm assuming you weren't forced to meet me,"
"Then you're assuming correctly," I said and he smiled.
"So I heard from your father that you've given a few interviews in law firms,"

"Yeah,"
"You've got two degrees, why doesn't anyone hire you?"
"They think it's a waste of time, what do you do by the way?"
"I'm a lawyer too, I own a law firm as well," he said.
"Don't even think I'm going to join your law firm," I said and he just smiled.
"Didn't think about it at all," he said as the waitress came with our orders.
"Dig in," he gestured and I didn't need anything else as I dug in.
"This is tasty," I said softly as I finished eating the cheese sandwich and as I was about to eat my smoothie, my phone started ringing.
"Hello?"
"Hello, am I speaking to Sanjana Shukla?"
"Yes you are,"
"We are talking talking from the Aequitas Firm, we wanted to inform you that you are hired and I will mail you all the details,"
"Really? Thank you so much!"
"We'll see you on Monday, have a good day," she said and she hung up.
"Yes!" I said and Rohan smiled as he raised his eyebrow.
"I got hired," I said.
"That's great," he said.
"I know right! I'm super duper excited," I said before eating my smoothie.
"You'll start working on Monday?" He asked.
"Yes, I cannot wait,"
"I'm sure you'll be a good lawyer," he said.
"Thank you," I said.
As we finished eating, he looked up and stared at me.
"You have smoothie on you cheek," he said and picked up a tissue.
I immediately picked up a tissue and wiped my whole face inorder to not make the silly Bollywood scene into a reality.
"Urmm..."
"You obviously didn't think I'd let you wipe my face as I feign innocence of not knowing where the smoothie is,"
"I wasn't going to wipe it, I was going to let you do the needful," he said as he smiled and somehow that smile irked me.
"Pftt... Whatever,"
"You wanted me to wipe it?"
"Of course not," I snapped as I glared at him. God that smile was getting on my nerves.
"Let's split the bill," he said as the waitress came with the bill.
"Huh?"
"Let's split it because I'm sure you wouldn't let me pay the whole bill and it would be wrong to have you pay the whole bill because of my man ego so let's split it," he said and I stared at him wide-eyed.
"Are you real?"
"Why? Did you think I'll pay the whole bill? I'm too broke for that Ms. Sanjana," he said with a playful smile.
"Too broke my ass," I muttered as I put my sum on the table.
"I'm sorry Ms. Sanjana but maybe next time I'll pay the whole bill then?"
"You're assuming there will be a next time," I said with a smile and I almost stilled before dropping my smile as we walked outside.
"Until next time Sanjana,"
"Stop being delusional Rohan,"
"Oh no! But I've already told my mom I like you," he said and I choked on my spit.
"What?"
"I'm kidding, bye and have a nice day," he said before walking in the opposite direction.
This man!
°
I entered my house to find my parents and Sonia sitting in the living room waiting for me.
"Are you so jobless Sonia?" I asked.
"How was the date?"
"It was ok,"
"Okay? Or like perfect?" Sonia asked with a dreamy look on her face.
"You have high expectations, I hope you find someone who meets those expectations," I said to Sonia and her expression immediately turned sour.
"Sanju, stop being so heartless to your sister all the damn time," mom scolded me.
"The date was nice," I finally said.
"Dad look," Sonia said.
"What?" I asked.
"You're smiling," Sonia said.
"So what? I smile all the time,"
"So it was nice,"
"Yeah but Rohan infuriates me," I said and Sonia started laughing.
"What?"
"He's the first man who infuriated you and not disgust, well that's progress," she said.
"Shut up and I got a job in Aequitas Firm, I'll start working from Monday, so I'll be off resting," I said and started walking towards my room.
"Oh and Sanju,"
"Yes Sonia,"
"I'll find someone who not only meets my expectations but surpasses it," she said.
"Well, poor him," I said with a chuckle only to he greeted with a pillow on my face.
