《Into You - Jennie Kim x Female Reader》Chapter Twenty Six

"Please turn that thing off, babe." The clock reads 12 noon. Yup, Y/N's work messed up her body clock.
"Nope. No can do. If I turn that off, you're gonna sleep till 6 in the evening."
Y/N groaned and buried her face deeper in the pillow. "But I wanna sleep some more."
Angelic laugh then resonated inside the room when Y/N's whining came out muffled.
"Babe, get up now. You have an important event to go to."
Despite hearing that, the sleepyhead kept her head dug in the pillow. Getting up isn't in her to-do list for the day.
"Kim Y/N!" No reaction.
"Get up now, Kim Y/N!" Still, no response.
"You're getting up this instant or no kisses for you, Kim Y/N."
And as if she heard the worst news ever, the sleepy girl is now surely wide awake. "I'm up! I'm up. Jeez. You're so mean, woman." She pouted as she rubbed the tiredness from her eyes.
Her girlfriend, fiancée to be exact, laughed at Y/N's current state. Her hair was messy, eyes showed that she lacked some sleep, and a cute pout on her face.
"Oh you love it tho."
Y/N smiled as she watched her soon to be wife do her makeup as she was sitting in front of their vanity dresser.
"Have I ever told you that you look stunning even without makeup on?" Y/N wrapped her hand around her girl's waist as she bent down and placed her chin on top of her shoulder. A smile crept up onto Y/N's face as she saw the woman she loves the most blush furiously.
"You did a thousand times already."
"And I'll never get tired of saying it a thousand times more."
Silence fell upon them as they both looked at each other through the mirror. Wide smiles and fast beating hearts. What a wonderful feeling it is.
"I'm so lucky to have you, babe."
Y/N smiled even wider. "I'm luckier to have you."
Y/N then slowly pulled the shorter girl up and made her lean on the dresser. Y/N's arms found their way to the other girl's waist as hers was on the back of Y/N's neck, playing with the baby hair that she loves so much. They continued staring at each other's eyes.
Everyone would see how deeply in love they are with each other even from a mile away.
"You stuck by me through thick and thin. And I promise that I'd do the same thing for you. I'd never leave your side. Never ever."
"I love you, Y/N."
"And I love you even more. I would love you more each day, love."
Y/N slowly leaned in and kissed the shorter girl softly on her lips and then on her forehead.
The sweet moment was then interrupted by the alarm going off once again making Y/N groan.
"Can't you really go with me? Just like how you usually do." Y/N hoped as her eyes saddened by the fact that they have to part ways for the time being.
"I'm sorry, babe. I would love to but dad needs me in the company right now. He said something about an important meeting with the board." Y/N pouted.
"Hey that's not fair. You know how I can't resist your pouts." She smiled. "But I really can't babe. I promise to make it up to you."
With a kiss being planted on her lips, Y/N nodded her head understandingly and pulled away to get ready.
She went to the bathroom after yelling out an I love you to her girlfriend, and prepared for the day ahead of her.

"You're 10 minutes late, Y/N."
"Cut me some slack, will you? You do know that I live almost 2 hours away from here, right? Besides, the event hasn't even started yet." Y/N sassed back to Jaechan, her best friend and colleague, as she started preparing her equipments.
Y/N is working for one of the most well known events companies in South Korea. Her passion for photography developed into something bigger as years passed by as she now does more camera works like filming big events such as this one and sometimes, editing them too.
"You could have left 10 minutes earlier to get here on time but I bet, you were all being lovey dovey once again."
"Just say that you're jealous since I'm getting married and you're still single, and go."
The two then continued to bicker amongst each other before the event actually started.
The event that they're handling today is one of the biggest and most awaited annual gathering in the country. Well known people from different fields like fashion, music, business, and sports will be gathered today on this event. People from the fashion industry would be having a mini runway show as a glimpse of what is there to expect for the upcoming Fashion Week. Personalities from music and sports would be introducing their new prodigies. And businessmen would introduce the heirs to the biggest companies out there. It is indeed a jam packed event that's why an entire hotel was booked for the event itself.
As the event progressed, Y/N started to feel tired. She has been in there doing her work for 3 hours straight now and the event would still go on for another 2 hours. She was exposed to big events like this but this one is by far the hardest one to handle.
Y/N spotted one of her supervisors and asked if she could take a small break. Fortunately, she was granted with a 30 minute break.
She pulled out her phone and sent a quick text to her fiancée in which she instantly got a response back.
"You got this, babe. I'd be waiting for you at home."
"I love you more, babe! ❤️"
Y/N smiled to herself after reading the response and proceeded to get a bottle of water. A wine would be nice but since she has a low alcohol tolerance and that she still needs to work, water was the best option.
She strolled down the hallway of the hotel until she reached the hotel's balcony that is accessible by everyone as this one is for common use, not the ones in the rooms.
It was a quiet night. The sun has already set couple of minutes ago. It was also chilly. Y/N looked at how beautiful the night sky is. The full moon is shining so bright as the hotel's pool was being illuminated by its light.
"This is how the night sky looked 10 years ago. So beautiful and calm."
Y/N smiled to herself.
•••
"Thank you so much for working hard today, guys. The other team would be editing these videos out so the rest of you could now go home and enjoy the rest of the night." Mr. Lee, their supervisor, let Y/N and her team know that it was a successful event.
7:45 pm, Y/N's watch reads.
"Hey, I'll get going now. See you tomorrow, Jaechan." Y/N bid her best friend good bye as she packed her things.
She exited the hotel and went straight to her car. Tiredness was very much evident on her body as she slumped back at the car seat after carefully putting her things at the back seat. But as if it was magic, her tiredness vanished when she received a call.

Y/N had a wide smile plastered on her face. Her voice was different from minutes ago since she sounds so cheerful right now.
Her smile grew bigger, if that's possible, when she heard her favorite laugh at the other end.
"Hi baby!" The shorter girl responded with the same enthusiasm. "How was your day?"
She paused for a moment as she stared at her engagement ring.
Y/N loves hearing the other girl's laugh so much. For her, it was music to her ears. It's what you'll hear when you enter the gates of heaven.
"You're so lame, you know that right?"
"Well that, I can't deny." Even when they are on the other ends of the call, Y/N could feel the smile of her girlfriend. And that, that made her heart flutter.
"Anyway, I'd be finished in 2 and a half hours tops. Could you please pick me up instead? I don't have the energy to drive back home." The girl's office was just close to where they live so the drive there from the hotel is 2 hours too. But since the shorter girl had a rough day at their company, she just wants to sit back in the car instead of driving.
"Thank you, babe. See you soon, yeah?"
"And I love you so much too!"
Before they hang up, And with that, Y/N hang up. She surely loves having unplanned and surprise date nights.
And with a very wide smile and a fast beating heart, she drove off.
•••
It was already 9:50 in the evening when Y/N slowed down her car. She passed by Seoul National Academy and a smile slowly crept onto her face. Memories started flooding her head that's why she decided to turn the car back around. She parked just outside the building.
As she got down the car, she walked towards the school's gates but just as she expected, it was locked. Luckily, she can clearly remember the secret passage that her and Lisa used to take so they can sneak in and out of the campus without the guards seeing them.
On the farthest end of the school's walls, a growing vine was seen. Y/N placed her hand on it and gently pushed it. And fortunately, it was still there, the small door that was painted just like the school's walls making it invisible for everyone who doesn't know about its existence.
She said to herself as she squeezed herself inside the door. Unlike before, it was kind of harder now since she grew taller and her body became more mature. Nonetheless, she managed to sneak in.
Y/N started wandering off the halls with her phone's flashlight on. She studied there for four years and had so many all nighters in there so the dark hallways don't scare her anymore. She strolled down the first floor and the memories she had in that place made her smile.
Her foot then led her to the garden. And when she saw someone standing there, she smiled.
"I never thought that this is where I'd see you again."
The person turned around and Y/N smiled more.
"Jennie."
There she was, the girl who made her high school life even more meaningful, standing in front of her with the moon illuminating her beautiful features.
"Y/N." After 10 years, Y/N heard Jennie's voice again. And that, that made her happy.
Seeing Y/N's smile, Jennie got surprised. She didn't think that this is how Y/N would be when they see each other again.
"She's not mad at me?" Y/N smiled. Jennie still has the tendency to say things out aloud.
"I'm not mad at you anymore. In fact, I was never mad at you."
The shorter girl tilted her head, a habit whenever she's confused.
"I never got mad at you, Jennie. I was more of" Y/N paused thinking of the right term. "upset. Upset that you left like that. But I knew you had your own reason, in which I never found out. But maybe now, you could tell me?" She questioned with a smile still plastered on her face. She's genuinely happy to see Jennie again. And if she was straightforward before, she's even more straightforward now.
Flashback
It is the last day at camp. They would leave at 9 am. And Y/N, she was so excited to spend the new day with Jennie. She was even more excited now that she knows that the girl loves her as well.
But that didn't happen. That day didn't come. For Jennie was nowhere to be found when Y/N woke up.
"She's gone." That was the first thing Y/N heard when she left their tent. It was Jisoo with a sad expression.
"What do you mean she's gone? Who is gone? And have you seen Jennie?"
Jisoo held Y/N's hands. Their two other best friends present as well with the same sad eyes.
"Jennie's gone, Y/N. She left."
Y/N shook her head furiously. "No. She wouldn't leave. She won't leave without saying goodbye. She won't leave just like that." Tears started to stream down her face when she recalled not seeing any of Jennie's things in their tent a few minutes ago.
But she was proven wrong. Jennie indeed left. Mr. Shin came over informing them that Jennie and him talked last night and Jennie said that she would be leaving the school once the semester ends, not telling him the reason why. What he didn't expect was for Jennie to leave the day after.
"Why would she leave after saying she loves me?" Y/N cried and cried in her bed that day. She did the whole week, and the following weeks.
End of Flashback
Jennie released a sigh she didn't realize she was holding. And unlike Y/N, Jennie's features were sad. Her eyes show the sadness of her heart.
"I got confused. My biological father texted me that night saying how they wanted to get to know me. I didn't know what to do. But I thought that maybe it won't be that bad. That maybe I could do it. So I decided to leave school after the semester ends to be with them. But, but I-" Jennie stuttered. "I, I got scared. When I found out that we are not related, I thought that I am ready to take risk with you. But when you confessed, I got scared because it was all new to me. It was too much. I got scared when you told me you love me. That's why I left that morning."
Even when Y/N has already moved on, her heart ached when she heard the reason why.
Nonetheless, Y/N nodded. "But did you mean it when you said you love me?"
"I did, Y/N. Of course, I did. And I hoped that you felt it through that kiss." The kiss, it brought a bittersweet feeling for Y/N. It was their first kiss not knowing it would also be the last.
"Then that's okay. At least you really did love me." She lightly chuckled, happy to know that Jennie at at least meant what she said.
Silence fell between them. The two are looking at each other while the moon was shining so bright above them.
Y/N thought.
"Was that also what you were supposed to tell me that night? That you'd be leaving?" She broke the silence.
Jennie could only nod as there were no other words forming in her mouth.
Y/N nodded and observed Jennie. And even after all these years, she still knows her too well.
"Hey, don't frown now. It still doesn't look good on you." Turning the frown upside down, Jennie finally felt relieved.
"I was also upset that you didn't get to say good bye to eomma, appa, and even Naeun one last time. But I know that you already know that since I always see their favorite flowers on their tombs even before I can give them one."
Flashback
It's been weeks since Jennie left. And Y/N still has no clue on where to find the girl. To make things worse, her parents are clueless just like her. Mrs. Hwang left too with no traces. They all felt heart broken. They all felt betrayed.
Days, weeks, months, and years passed by and her family seemed to be moving on. But Y/N can't. She continued searching for the girl for 3 years. She didn't stop looking and hoping that she'd see Jennie again. Not a day goes by without her looking for Jennie, until she gave up. Until she realized that Jennie really left her. Until someone left her again.
Y/N, her parents, and her younger sister were caught in a tragic car accident. They were on their way to a family gathering. Y/N didn't actually want to go for she is still not over Jennie and she is being succumbed by sadness. But that day, she was glad that she went with them. Because that was the last time she got to be with her family. That accident cost the lives of the 3 people that she loves so dearly.
End of Flashback
Jennie was quiet. The guilt never left her. The guilt of not being able to thank the family who raised her and not being able to say good bye has always been with her through out those years.
And Y/N felt that.
"But Jennie, if there's one thing that they want you to know, it's how they already forgave you. Even my little sister, she already forgave you."
With that, a tear escaped Jennie's eyes. Y/N wanted to hug her and comfort her but she knew better not to for Jennie would cry harder if Y/N held her.
"Where have you been all this time?" Y/N asked. Because she never caught a glimpse of Jennie in those years.
"After I met my parents that day, they took me to Paris. I didn't understand why but I realized that the Korean government still has their eyes on them, monitoring them. They are not exactly on the bad list but since they were involved in bad things, they were on their tails. So they decided to move abroad, for my safety and to live a comfortable life."
Y/N thought as she felt dumb for not thinking that before.
"Do you regret anything?" Y/N can't stop herself from asking.
"There's no point in lying. I mean I don't regret meeting my parents but I regret not being able to say good bye to you and our family. I regret not being able to show you how much I love you."
Y/N could only nod. She didn't know what to say.
"But are you happy?"
"I honestly don't know. How about you?" Jennie asked as she glanced at Y/N's left hand, seeing the girl's engagement ring. And that's when she knew that Y/N indeed moved on.
Before Y/N could speak up, her phone rang. And from the smile that formed on Y/N's face, Jennie instantly knew that it was her lover. She just doesn't know who.
"Excuse me." And Y/N picked up her phone.
Jennie can only hear Y/N's end.
And Y/N hang up with a wide smile on her face.
"Uhm I don't want to be too nosy, but who was that if I may ask?"
Y/N smiled wider at the thought of her fiancée. "That's my fiancée, Lisa."
Jennie's eyes widened. "Lisa?"
"Yup. The one and only Lalisa Manoban."
When Jennie left, when Y/N was so devastated looking for her, when her family died, and when she wished that she died with her family, Lisa never left Y/N's side. She stuck by her even when Y/N hit rock bottom. Lisa never gave up on Y/N knowing that she'll be able to bounce back. She had her faith in her. She believed in her. And throughout those times, Lisa became Y/N's strength. She became Y/N's reason to keep going. And eventually, she became the girl that Y/N could never live without.
After so many years, Y/N realized that it was Lisa, the girl that she prayed for. When she was younger, she always prayed to have someone who would never leave her side. Someone who wouldn't leave even after seeing her at her worst. And Lisa was that girl. She is that girl.

The universe is a very strange place. It will take even stranger heroes to save it."Absurd. Existential. Ridiculous. Tragic. Comic. The antiheroes of "I Don't Seem So Bright in a Well-Lit Room" are a kind of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern with space packs, inadvertently colliding with their destinies against a starry background of witty wordplay.
