《Softer Than Lavender (Boy×Boy)》Party Time
Advertisement
Wassup future Drew,
I'm going to my Boyfriend's football party in less than an hour. Yes I just said boyfriend, as in like my first ever relationship. I'm getting dressed as we speak. He told me I could wear my cheer uniform, and get this... he wants me to wear the skirt. I'm kind of afraid of being around a bunch of football players while wearing a short skirt, because you know, he is kind of from hicksville. But at the same time, god damn I look good right now. Am I allowed to say that about myself? I don't think I've ever actually felt that way before.
Greyson's dad honked his car horn and rolled down his window. "Grey hurry your slow ass up! You do not want to keep Drew waiting."
"Fine! I was just packing the face paint like you asked, unless you want me to forget something..." Greyson jumped in the car.
"You are a mouthy child, you know that?" The rest of the drive was relatively silent aside from a few giggles coming from Greyson as he stared down at his phone.
Then there was a knock on his window. "Let him in you dope show, it's chilly outside."
"Oh sorry, I..." Greyson looked Drew up and down.
"You what?" Drew looked confused.
"Uh, oh yeah, I got distracted." Greyson laughed nervously. Drew shrugged, still confused.
"For christ's sake you guys are awkward. He forgot what he was going to say because he was caught off guard by your good looks. Greyson you missed a good opportunity there, I thought I taught you better than that."
"Yeah what he said." Drew laughed and poked Greyson on the shoulder.
"Hey Greyson's dad, can we turn the music down?" Greyson's dad laughed and nodded his head.
"Alright son's boyfriend, but call me Chuck. You know there will be music at the party kiddo. Can't guarantee it will be quiet."
Drew pops his hand in his jacket pocket and pops out a little clear pouch. "That's okay, I have my ear plugs. I always have my ear plugs. How you you think i survive cheer? It's a loud sport."
Greysons dad smiled. "That it is, I bet it helps to have a big mouth." Drew giggles and rolls his eyes.
Dear Greyson's phone,
Yo, I was expecting the skirt. But, I wasn't expecting it to look this good. I'm sitting in the car failing to positively contribute to conversation because upper thigh is staring at me right now, or maybe I'm staring. Either way, this is going to be a long night.
"Ok boys, game paint time."
"Were putting on game paint. Basically, just put on the paint in my school colors, it'll slightly clash with your white and red uniform. But it's fine." Drew furrowed his eyebrows and poked the tubs of face paint. "Blue and orange? Not saying I dislike complimentary colors, but that nauseates me."
"Honestly. Our uniforms are quite distracting. Not quite as distracting as that red skirt though." Drew blushed and tried to hide his face behind the sleeve of his jacket.
"Grey, enough. You're supposed to make me believe that you are my innocent child and that I can trust you with more privacy." Greyson's dad over-dramatically winks.

"Oh yeah... uh, that fabric, you see it's distracting because it is clearly a very quality thread count." Greyson's dad smirked and shook his head.
"Oh, that's not at all what I thought you mean't."
Greyson chuckled and whispered to Drew. "I actually meant the skirt is distracting because you look... amazing in it. I was just joking with my dad. He said he will pretend to believe we are innocent kids as long as we pretend good enough. So basically, I should probably stop talking about your thighs in front of him."
Drew giggles. "Oh, I see. Though it's really not pretending, we are both very innocent."
"Hey, you're right. Dad! How dare you imply that we're not innocent?" Greysons dad snorted and raised an eyebrow. "I raised you so well."
Greyson opened the tubs of face paint and streaked some gently across Drew's face and then his own. He stopped for a moment to admire his own work. "I placed that perfectly. I was afraid it might hide your cute freckles."
Drew blushed and knocked twice on the back of the seat. Then he looked out the window as they pulled up to the house the party was at and everything hit him at once. "Greyson, what if nobody wants me there?"
"Impossible. You know why?"
"Why?"
"Because I want you there, and my dad wouldn't have let me take you if he didn't want you there. If they don’t want you there then they won't want me there either. And I'm okay with that at this point." Drew smiled and wrapped his hands around Greyson’s arm.
The boys followed Greyson's dad into the house and down into the basement where it had appeared most other guests had already arrived and gotten comfortable. They suddenly felt all eyes on them.
A tall boy with blond hair and lean muscular features began to walk past them before stopping to do a double take. "Oh my god, Greyson? I thought you'd never show your face again, you know after you... I mean, everyone thought you were dead for like three days."
Greyson grabbed onto Drew's hand. The boy looks down and raises an eyebrow but keeps his mouth closed. "Yeah, it was the coach's idea. I already got the memo that nobody really wanted me here."
"So you're..." the boy pointed his finger back and forth between Greyson and Drew. Drew flinched. "You're, you know..."
"This is my boyfriend, yes I'm gay if that's what you were getting at." Drew squeezes tighter onto Greyson's hand.
"Oh, yeah. Um, hi. You must be from westland heights. White and red. My cousin goes there. Small school. Her name is Ashley, you’ve probably seen her around. " The boy turned to Greyson. "Why don't you let him go hang out with the girls, this doesn't seem like the right setting for a..."
"Kole. Seriously? He's a guy. You do realize that since we're dating that means I am also a... whatever you were about to say."
Kole glances over at Drew's outfit. "Okay, but you are like, intimidating and badass, and he's... wearing a skirt. Those are on different levels. I'm sure he doesn't want to hang around with the guys."

"Actually I'm honestly quite uncomfortable right now and it would be worse if I was alone in unfamiliar territory." Kole glanced back over to Drew. "Right..."
The guys walked away from Kole among the crowd where they were greeted by three other old team mates. One of the guys stared at them for an uncomfortable amount of time. "I see you're not dead. That's news to me... and you drug in one of the retards from Westland. Seriously, who the hell is this kid?"
Drew holds onto Greyson's arm nervously and takes a step back. "Dude, I'm sorry I got booted from the team and fucked everything up but you can't call my boyfriend a..."
"Boyfriend? Oh, so I was right. Interesting. You not only are an idiot, but you fuck them too?" The boy smirks.
"Jacob just leave them alone." One of the other boys stepped in between the conflict.
"Oh please mark, we all knew it. There was a reason he always changed clothes in the stall." Greyson clenched his jaw and his fist.
Drew grabbed the other hand and looked up at him. "We can always leave."
Mark looked over to Jacob and scratched his head. "No that's ridiculous. Greyson is into the girly type. You look like a blobfish."
Jacob put his hand on his hip defensively. "Um. I am definitely attractive enough for a gay man. Right Greyson? I'm not ugly am I? pretty boy, do you think I'm ugly? Hello? Guys I don’t even think he understands what we’re talking about. Greyson you need to stop hitting on the disabled kids."
Drew took another step back and looked back and forth between Greyson and Jacob. "Idk... I'm uncomfortable."
"Jacob you're creeping the poor kid out, he's getting all twitchy." Greyson rolled his eyes at Mark and wrapped his arm around Drew's waist.
He whispered to Drew. "Come on baby, let's go sit down and drink soda. You like soda?"
Drew clenched his teeth. "Depends, I don't like dark liquids. Is there clear soda?"
"Uh, I'm sure there is. Try to ignore the guys alright? They've always given me shit about everything. Their entire life is this town. They have walnut brains. What was it they were saying about your school?"
Drew looked down and over to the corner. "It's known for its special education program. It accepts students from basically everywhere who are disabled and interested in the arts. I tend to leave that detail out."
Greyson caressed Drew's hand and grabbed a napkin and a pencil from the center of the table. "It's awesome that they are doing that. Everyone deserves a chance to do what they love. They seem to do a good job because your talent is unmatched." Drew blushed lightly.
"I'm bored, draw me something nice." Drew took the napkin and the pencil.
"Glad to see this is a recurring theme. I'll draw you a hummingbird buzzing through some lavender."
Greyson smiled. "I dare you to give the humming bird a bow tie." Drew giggled. "A dare is a dare." He began lightly laying out basic shapes and mapping details.
Kole and Jacob both walk up behind Drew. "Oh shit bro. Are you like, one of the special prodigys or somthing?" Greyson raised an eyebrow at Kole.
"No, not everyone there is an artistic savant. I just enjoy art. I'm there for cheer."
"Well you're good at it anyways." Kole tipped his cap at Drew.
"Don't confuse him, he might think your gay." Drew shook his head. "Don't worry, neither of you are very attractive to me."
Jacob readjusted his posture and cleared his throat. "Damn boy, I can see kole. But what does fruit fly have that I don't have?"
"About 1 extra foot and 20 pounds of muscle." Greyson chuckles and Kole offers up a fist bump.
"Damn Greyson, your boys got some bite. Now I'm starting to see the connection." Greyson shakes his eyes and stretches.
"Haha, funny. Are you done terrorizing Drew yet?"
Jacob looked Drew up and down. "Yeah, yeah. Hey, you got tattoos?"
"Yes. Why?" Drew pulled his top down over his lower back.
"I don't know, I'm just surprised you can take pain, considering..." Drew raised an eyebrow. "No pain, no gain." He smirked.
Jacob's eyes went wide and he awkwardly shifted. "I'll catch you at graduation Greyson." Greyson nodded and turned around.
Greyson lost his composure laughing. "I can not believe you seriously just said that."
Drew smirked again. "No pain no gain?"
Greyson grinned and locked ankles with Drew. "Yeah, did you see his little tent?"
"Oh no, really? Well I guess the skirt came in handy after all."
Greyson winked at Drew. "Well you look perfect right now." Drew rolled his eyes. "Oh please."
Greyson looked Drew in the eyes. "Hey, it's true. All these people know it, and that makes them nervous. You are fine." Drew knocks twice on the table and awkwardly plants his forehead on Greyson's bicep.
"Ok mister, I don't know about you, but this party is killing me." Greyson let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you for noticing. I thought I was the only one that noticed this was a trainwreck.
Greyson's father walked up behind them and placed his hand on the table. "Okay boys, I was waiting for one of you to signal that you wanted to leave so I decided to eavesdrop. Drew you staying the night or something?"
Drew looked up to Greyson. "You can stay if you want. I think it's a good idea."
Greyson's dad grabbed his keys from his pocket. "I'll take that as a yes. Grey, your mom is staying the night at Linda's from church. I'll allow your door to be shut until 6am. So make yourself presentable by six. Do not tell your mother."
Greyson smiled and made prayer hands. "Oh thank god. You're officially my favorite parent."
"Does this mean were allowed to kiss if the door is closed?" Greyson's dad laughed and patted Drew on the back. "I don't care what you guys do because I don't know about it. Wink wink."
Greyson face palmed. "Eww dad! Again with the creepy commentary." Drew laughed and stood up.
They all walked to the door and headed out to the car.
