I jolted from the bed, gasping for breath.

Bright lights blinded my sight, making me shield my eyes. Squinting, I saw that I was in a. . . clinic.

Oh, a coincidence. I just woke up to the place I was looking for.

Squinting, pristine white walls met my gaze. From there were small cupboards, probably filled with medical supplies and first aid.

Oh, what a coincidence. I just woke up in a clinic, the place I was looking for before something hit me and— Wait. . . What did the hell happen? How in the world did I get here?

"I don't get why I have to be in this place," a snarky female voice said. "I barely know her."

"Athena, Zeus just said that she saw—"

"Shh! Look, guys, she's finally awake!"

Shuffling of footsteps followed and two boys and a girl who looked almost my age came into view. I stared at them in confusion.

"Who are you?" I asked.

I didn't have to ask about the girl among them. She was the girl from the dorms who happened to be my roommate. Why was she here?

The three of them exchanged knowing glances. Somehow, they looked like they knew each other. Probably very well too.

Oh no. . . Did they know about the mind-reading thing? Was I going to get into trouble?

One of them slowly walked to the side of the bed. Like any other student I've seen so far, the school uniform he wore was clean and crisp. His sandy blonde hair was combed perfectly, not a single strand out of place.

He cleared his throat. "You must be wondering how you got here."

"Uh, yeah. . ." I blinked. "Not to be rude but. . . I've never met you before, but why does your voice sound familiar? I feel like I heard it somewhere. Did you work as a voice actor or something?"

He chuckled. "Oh no. You must've heard me from one of the announcements I've made earlier over the PA."

"That was you?"

He nodded. "Anyway, let me introduce ourselves," he said. "My name's Poseidon Olympian, and these two are my siblings, Athena and Zeus."

The blonde girl frowned at the mention of her name while the boy with messy blonde hair next to her grinned.

I raised a brow. "Wait a sec. So you're named after the Olympian gods? That's. . . unique."

"Yeah, our mom's obsessed with Greek culture," Zeus said, shrugging. "You can see it throughout the school, but she especially loves the myths."

My eyes widened. "W-What? You're mom's Rhea Olympian, the principal?"

Athena rolled her eyes. "Poseidon just told you our surname, so that's pretty obvious."

I ignored her remark and turned my attention back to Poseidon. "So what exactly happened to me? I just remember looking around for the clinic but then I opened the door of this dark room and a blue light got to me. And that's it."

Athena tilted her head. "So you don't remember what happened after that?"

I shook my head.

She looked at Poseidon. "Just let her go off. Telling her won't be necessary."

"But we have to," Poseidon said. "It's only right."

"Keeping it from her would save us from a load of trouble," Athena reasoned. "It's not like she wants to know about it."

I crossed my arms. "I do want to know about it."

"See? We have to tell her." Poseidon sighed, then looked at me. "This might sound like a bit of a shocker to you—"

"Tch. Nice one, Sei," Zeus commented.

His brother gave him a scolding glare. "I'm just trying to give the news to her as smoothly as—"

"Save the speech for yourself." Zeus stared at me in the eye. "I shot you."

"Zeus!" Poseidon and Athena exclaimed in chorus.

My head swiveled at him, gaping. "What?"

Looking down at myself, I searched my body for any sign of a bullet hole or bandage covering an injury.

"Hey, don't worry. It's not what you think." Zeus laughed nervously. "Well, um. . . how can I say this? I have lightning powers."

"I'm sorry, what?"

"He has electrokinesis," Athena said as if it would explain what he said. "He can summon and control lightning."

"Yeah, right, and I can read minds," I retorted.

Glancing at each one of them, their grim expressions didn't seem to change. No one seemed like they were going to break the news to me and tell me that they were joking.

Athena thought angrily as she glared at Zeus.

Zeus gave Athena a side glance.

Poseidon's voice whispered inside my head.

I inhaled sharply as I heard their thoughts. Thankfully, no one seemed to notice.

Reading people's thoughts was just wrong. There must be some off switch for this power. . .

Zeus cleared his throat. "Look, Amelia—"

"How do you know my name?"

Athena pointed at me. "We saw your ID."

"Oh." I felt heat rush to my cheeks, embarrassed.

"As I was going to say," Zeus continued, "I did shoot you down. Electrocuted you, to be exact. But it was an accident, I swear. I thought I locked the electrical room's door and—"

"That was the electrical room?" I tilted my head. "What were you doing there?"

He scratched his head. "Well, funny story. . . I-I accidentally broke the school's generator."

Okay. . . That explained why the lights were flickering earlier.

"But isn't that dangerous?" I asked. "I mean, you don't look like a professional who could fix a broken generator."

Athena smirked. "I know, right? But since he didn't want to admit his mistake to Rhea, he had to repair it himself."

"Well, dear sister, I was about to get the wiring right when she suddenly came," Zeus said, then looked at me, eyes full of regret. "I'm so sorry, Amelia. I'll be careful next time."

"Um, it's fine, I guess. . ." I said. "I don't think it hurt me too much. It's all good."

"Are you sure about that?" Poseidon asked. "Because it seems to me that you're taking all of this a little too easy."

I swallowed. "W-What do you mean?"

He pressed his lips into a thin line. "I don't know for sure, but it feels like you know something."

"What are you talking about?" I forced out a laugh. "I. . . just had a lot of weird things happening to me today, that's all. I think I can handle a bit more weirdness from you guys."

"Right. . ." Athena stared at me, a glint of suspicion in her eyes.

Zeus clasped his hands together. "We know that you're confused about me having powers and stuff, so we might as well tell you what's going on."

"Amelia, I don't suppose you're familiar with Greek mythology?" Poseidon questioned.

"Of course I know about them," I said. "I love reading the mythos. They're just amazing."

"Well, they're not myths," Zeus said. "They're pretty much real. All of it."

"All of it?" I echoed. "What do you mean?"

Poseidon see-sawed his hand. "We're not exactly sure about 'all of it', but we know that the Olympian gods and goddesses are very real. Like Zeus—the god, not my brother here—then there's Poseidon, Athena, Demeter, Artemis, Apollo, Dionysus, Ares, Hephaestus, Hermes, Aphrodite, and—"

"—Hera," I said.

He nodded. "All twelve of them."

"But how can you be so sure that they're real?" I asked. "Is Zeus here the god of the sky himself?"

Zeus stifled a laugh. "Now that would be awesome! For my first order as king of the gods, I'll zap Athena using my all-mighty thunderbolt!"

Athena elbowed him hard on his chest with her good arm, earning a yelp of pain from Zeus.

Poseidon shook his head. "It's. . . more complicated than that. You see, certain individuals are selected by the Olympian gods to be gifted with their powers. They get different powers from different gods. But a person doesn't get all of a god's powers, only a small chunk of it."

Wait a minute. Why did this sound so familiar?

"The three of us have those powers," Poseidon continued. "I have water powers that I got from my namesake. Zeus has lightning, and Athena is, um. . ."

"A smart ass?" Zeus suggested, snickering.

Athena scoffed. "It's called wisdom and intelligence, idiot. Someone like you would not understand."

Poseidon gave them a scolding glare before clearing his throat. "And that's it."

"You forgot something else," Zeus said. "Since we're all so special, it's only right that we have a title, you know. I could've thought of something better, but people like us are called—"

"—Chosens." I finished his sentence with a sigh. "Yep, I know about all that. . . because I'm pretty sure I'm one too."

"What?!"

"So what you're saying is. . . you only knew about your powers today when you got into class?"

I nodded at Poseidon's question.

"And that when I shot you with my lightning," Zeus continued, "you got a vision from Hera?"

I nodded once more. "Yeah, that's right."

Athena tilted her head. "I don't believe you."

"Athena," Poseidon intoned.

She looked at him with eyebrows furrowed. "What? Do you expect me to believe her that easily? For all I know, she could be lying."

"Hey, I'm not!" I said in protest.

What the hell was wrong with her? It's not like I ruined her whole life or anything.

"Sis, she just got a vision from a god in her sleep," Zeus pointed out. "The three of us experienced that too. She doesn't sound like she's lying at all."

"Fair enough," Athena said reluctantly. "But even if you trust what she's saying, I don't have to take her word for it."

"Whatever you say." Zeus rolled his eyes, then gazed at me with a smile. "Don't mind her. She's always like that."

I couldn't help but raise a brow. Always? How could they even handle her?

"Amelia, what's important is. . . you never mention this to anyone," Poseidon said, putting emphasis on each word. "This is something that will make other people panic. They won't understand enough, so no one should know."

I bit my lip. I was about to say something when Athena spoke first. "What is it?"

"Well, I. . ." I rubbed my elbow. "On my way to the electrical room, I. . . um, stumbled upon this girl. She's got brown hair and amber eyes, plus she has a 'Hall Monitor' sash with her uniform. Maybe you know her?"

Turning around, Athena rubbed her temples with her hand. "This is what I was afraid of."

Meanwhile, Poseidon looked at Zeus with a questioning gaze. Zeus stared back at his brother innocently.

"Don't look at me like that," Zeus said. "I didn't do anything, I swear."

His brother's features tightened. "Don't lie. I know what happened."

"Well, it was about damn time it did, Sei." Zeus smirked. "She was almost close to knowing anyway."

Poseidon nodded. "I see, and you don't have any regrets?"

Zeus shook his head. "Nope, not even a little."

What were they talking about?

Poseidon then turned to me and gave me a reassuring smile. "Don't worry. We'll take care of Kristine. But first, we'd like you to meet someone very important."

Athena swiveled around, a hint of disgust on her face. "You don't mean. . ."

Poseidon nodded. "Yes. Amelia, you're going to meet our mother."
