《Make Me Love Again (THE VAMPIRE DIARIES)》THE LAST DANCE (PART ONE)

It has been a long time since I had been home, the idea of being back was weird... to say the least, like maybe I should have stayed away from Mystic Falls forever. It is probably a little to late for this considering I am standing right outside of my front door.

I raised my hand to knock as I was beginning to have second thoughts about coming back.

I have to get a grip, nothing can hurt you and nothing will happen whilst I am here. You just need to find out what is pulling you here, sort it out and then you can leave again. I told myself and I hesitantly knocked on the door. If only I knew how wrong I would be.

"Elena why are you knocking at the door for you have a key. I can't stand around and be doorman all day." Said aunt Jenna as she opened the door to let me through.

"It is not Elena, Auntie Jenna" She gasps and embraces me in a hug, and I hug her back just as tightly.

"I have missed you so so much, when you said you were leaving I did not think that it would be so long. I hated every minute of you being gone. Jeremy will be so happy to have you back" She stutters out nearly in tears.

"I know, Jenna I just craved the freedom I was missing all my life, I just wanted some time alone and you know what happens with Elena when I stay around." I murmur ashamed.

"Hey, hey it is ok now your back, although I cannot say that Elena is going to be pleased with your return." She said whispering the last part sympathetically.

"I know, she never is, but enough about Elena and her problems, tell me everything I have missed whilst I have been gone." I ask her.

Elena and I have not got along at all since like ever, she always has hated me, and I am not really sure what happened. But she was always close with our parents and they always thought I was an abomination, so I kind of just took a guess on what happened.

Aunt Jenna then proceeded to tell me everything I had missed, about her relationship with Alaric and how recently she thinks that he is hiding a lot of things from her and she has no idea whether to trust him anymore. How Vicki has died of an overdose and been found in the woods by Caroline during the storm. Jeremy had told me this earlier, he called me up in tears about it and asked if he wanted me to come back but he told me to stay away until I was ready to come back. Also how Elena is no longer in a relationship with Matt, poor Matt he definitely deserved better than her anyway. She was now with Stefan Salvatore. Salvatore now that name has not been around in a while, well apart from Zach. He must be a vampire it is the only logical explanation, I swear somewhere in the founders archives they said something about him in the Civil War days. She told me how our dad's clinic had some faulty wiring and set a light. She also told me about how Jeremy is now dating Bonnie, I am so shocked he hadn't told me. They did not seem a likely couple but I bet there a cute one. But the last thing that she told me brought me into a state of shock, she told me how we were adopted and that Alaric's ex-wife is our biological mother. Who is supposed to be dead, yet had turned up on our doorstep a few days ago demanding to speak to Elena. Jeremy had caught me up with all the supernatural stuff, only the stuff that happened a few weeks ago he hadn't called recently but I assumed that he was just busy but I guess I will find out today.

Once I was all caught up I felt like I had just ran a marathon, even though it is only the small things it just feels a bit odd so much had changed and that normally never happens.

"Right you best be off to school the Aria." Jenna tells me acting adult.

"Really Jenna, I only just got back." I tell her whining, the truth was I was so tired from the journey and all the stressing I had done I just want to curl up into a little ball until the near future.

"Yes, but in your 30 minute day dream I called up and set you up for classes. Now quit the whining and head to school, before your late. And come back here after school, Elena should not be here tonight and even if she is here your still staying. Clear?" She tells me sternly, leaving me no option but to co-operate.

"Crystal." I mutter as I leave the door in a complete mood. I get in my car and drive off towards the school.

Once I had arrived at school and gotten my timetable, I rushed to class knowing I was already really late already, I mean I had already missed first period, as I had wanted to catch up with Jenna earlier. Getting the books out of my locker, I quickly glance down at my timetable and see that I have history.

As I ran to history, I slammed the door open and ever turned to look at me.

"I am so sorry I was late, it is my first day and I tried to get here as quickly as possible." I quickly rushed out deciding to stop talking before I was to begin to ramble.

"It is fine, just make sure it does not happen again, my name is Alaric Saltzman and I am your history teacher, so can you please introduce yourself." He tells me with a smirk-smile. Odd. Very odd.

Alaric, that was Jenna's boyfriend that reminds me I may has enough to have a few words with him at some point. Don't want him breaking her heart, and he also needs to come clean about whatever he is hiding it obviously bothers her.

"I am Aria Gilbert." I tell the class noticing the glare that Elena is giving me from the class, so rapidly try to look away so I do not meet her eyes. Before scolding myself I will not let her control my life, I am an independent woman/ witch/ wolf. I don't even know anymore.

"Ok thank you Aria go and sit down so I can get on with the lesson." Alaric tells me.

I wonder to the back of the classroom to the spare seat furthest away from Elena. I know that Elena has got nothing on me, I could beat her very easily but she has made my life a living hell several times before with the verbal abuse and I do not want it happening again. It drains away every part of you.

She was most of the reason I left in the first place, I just could not stand her anymore. I tuned back into the lesson to listen to Alaric drone on and on about the worst decade ever, the sixties. I mean the sixties, really?

"Oh who is this guy safari Sam?" I ask Katherine as she sits trembling on the bed, try to avoid conversation. I

"Ok bad or badder." I ask her as I pull out two hideous shirts from the dresser in my loaned bodies apartment.

"Dark colours suit you better." She quietly mumbled sitting on the bed. Twiddling her thumbs.

" Oh thank you honey. Ok pop quiz, the dagger and white ash are in the Salvatore possession, correct?" I ask her sweetly.

"The dagger was used to kill Elijah. You'll find him in the basement of the Salvatore house." Katherine replied to me.

"Okay, that dagger needs to stay exactly where it is. The last thing I need to do is resurrect Elijah. Oh, that guy is a buzzkill." I tell her.

"Don't forget you're on the outs with your girlfriend Jenna." She reminds me.

"Right. Elena's aunt. For all the lies about Isobel. What else?" I question her. Getting closer to the place she is sitting.

"That's it." Katherine says as I reach where she is sitting and touch her face.

"Oh, so jumpy." I say sarcastically to intimidate her more.

"Please, just...kill me. I've told you everything that I know." She whimpers out. As I then place my arms on the chair that she is sitting to get a closer look at her face, to test if she is telling the truth.

"You see, I believe that you believe that, but what would you not know? What could they be keeping from you? Hmm? Anything? Tell me."

I compel her to get the rest of her knowledge out of her.

"They were trying to see if Bonnie could find a way to kill an Original without a dagger." She said in a monotone voice answering my question.

"Bonnie the best friend? I thought you said she didn't have her powers anymore." I begin to question her trying to get to the bottom of the problem that I have currently got.

"She doesn't or didn't. I don't know. You kidnapped me, remember? I'm kinda out of the loop." She begins to snap a little at me like she is annoyed.

"Well, we'll have to get to the bottom of that." I tell her making a mental note to do that later.

"Please, just kill me, Klaus, and be done with it." She begs me.

"And show you kindness? I've searched for you for over 500 years. Your death is going to last at least half that long." I tell her smirking. As I reached into my pocket getting about a single bladed pocket knife and handing it to her.

"I want you to take this knife...And stab yourself." I compel her as she takes the knife and stabs herself in the leg.

"Now take it out." I command her, then she takes it out and the wound previously their heals.

"Now while I'm gone, I want you to do that over and over and over again and if you get bored, switch legs." I say compelling her, to make sure she follows my orders whilst I am gone.

"Where are you going?" She questions me as I walk up to the door.

"I'm gonna go lay eyes on my precious doppelgänger." I tell her with a wide smirk and open the door.

"Don't look so glum Katerina. The fun is just beginning. Again." I tell her as I leave the apartment.

I arrive late at the school to have to teach history so no one get suspicious about anything. I rush into the class. My eyes immediately dart to the middle of the classroom where I spot the doppelgänger talking to her friend which must be the best the Bennet witch.

"Hello class, what are we learning today?" I question no one in particular. However, before anyone could answer my question, the door was slammed open and in stepped a doppelgänger, but something was different about this one. That was then when I realised she was my mate. My mate was a doppelgänger and I could not be much more confused, there are never two doppelgängers at once.

I was pulled out of my thoughts by the melodic voice of my mate rambling. " I am so sorry I was late, it was my first day and and I tried to get here as quickly as possible."

I stare at her in awe in how different she is from all of the other doppelgängers, I finally pull myself together I finally reply with.

"It's fine, just make sure it does not happen again, my name is Alaric Saltsman and I am your history teacher, so can you please introduce yourself." I finally manage to say as confidently as possible, with a slight smirk smile on my face.

She looks to the class "I am Aria Gilbert." She l says to everyone, as the other doppelgänger gives her a harsh glare, I wonder what happens there. She then looks back to me.

"Ok thank you Aria, now go and sit down so I can get on with the lesson." I say to her as she starts to wonder to the back of the class, and I keep my eyes firmly on her until she finally sits down.

Once every thing quiets down I hear "With the decade dance tonight, we've been covering the sixties all week." One of the teachers pet says from the front.

"Right. The sixties." I mutter under my breath before turning to the board behind me, making sure to catch a glimpse of my mate before I turn around.

"The, uh, ahem..." I stutter out as I write 'the sixties' on the board.

"The sixties. I wish there was something good I could say about the sixties, but...Actually, they kind of sucked. Except for the Beatles, of course. They made it bearable. Uh, what else was there? The Cuban missile thing, the...we walked on the moon. There was Watergate." I say trying to remember what happened during the sixties

"Watergate was the seventies, Ric. I-I mean, Mr. Saltzman." The whiny doppelgängers says to me.

"Right. It all kind of mushes together up here, the sixties, seventies. Thank you, Elena." I say forcing a smile onto my face.

Once the lesson was finally over, I walk into the cafeteria and sit on a table alone. I stare into space when I am the tackled into a hug.

As I look up to see the culprit, a massage smile appears on my face as I realise it was my brother Jeremy.

"No one told me you were coming back." Jeremy murmurs to me whilst still holding me tightly.

"I know Remy, I did not tell anyone I was coming back, I wanted to surprise you and I didn't want anything getting back to Elena. Plus I might have told you if you decided to pick up the phone." I tell him using his nickname to cheer him up.

"Sorry, I have just been busy, things have been happening recently. I have just missed you loads that is all." he says with a big smile finally letting go of me.

"I have missed you to Remy." I murmur, giving him a smile of my own.

"Are you coming to the dance tonight?" Jeremy asked me, finally sitting down.

"Depends really, I mean the sixties is an awful decades down I mean like really awful, and to be honest I am still tired from the travel." I tell him being honest.

"Hey, Aria, there you are. Okay. This is going to sound freaky, but this totally hot guy just asked me to ask you if you're going to the dance tonight." Says a girl I have never met before cutting off my conversation with Jeremy.

"Tell him she is not interested" Jeremy immediately replies, and I look at him strangely, I mean what if I was interested, I am not allowed to talk for myself anymore then?

"You could at least meet him. He'll be at the dance tonight. Look for him. His name is Klaus." She tells me, continuing to push even though Jeremy had already said no.

"I'm sorry, what did you just say?" Demands Jeremy, seeming to get a bit worried.

"His name's Klaus. I know the name's stupid, but I swear he's hot." The girl continues to go on, I wonder if she ever stops talking.

"Where is he? Is he here?" Jeremy continues to question, while I still sit there utterly confused.

"I don't know." She say looking around as though she needs to find something.

"She's been compelled." Jeremy says under his breath, without my wolf hearing I wouldn't have picked up on.

"But he wants to know if you'll save him the last dance. How cute is that?" She says giving the biggest grin before walking off. Too happy, she is.

I turn to Jeremy "Would you like to tell me who Klaus is then." I ask him.

Jeremy then tells me everything he knows about Klaus and the originals, the things that I had missed over the last few weeks. The fact that Klaus is here to break the sun and moon curse. Another original has been in town called Elijah. He also told me to break the curse a human doppelgänger had to be sacrificed.

"I think he might be lining up to use you I mean why would he ask Dana to come and speak to you..." he nervously rambles on worries about the outcome. I now realise that I have to tell him the truth about me, it cannot be hidden from him any longer. Even if I think that keeping it hidden is in his best interests.

"He can't use me then to be sacrificed then." I cut him off with saying.

"What do you mean you cannot be sacrificed your human Aria incase you have forgotten." he asks me quite angrily.

I go on to tell him everything about my past, about how I triggered my werewolf curse and then found out I was also a witch. He just sat their shocked.

"I am so sorry 'Remy that I didn't tell you, I just didn't want you to be scared of me. Everyone who knew was scared or thought that something was wrong with me. I just thought it would be for the best if you didn't know."I tell him quietly afraid of the answer.

"I am just shocked, I didn't know, I don't think anything differently about you now. It does explain a lot though, but you shouldn't have been treated any differently for something that you could not control." he says reassuringly, giving me a hug.

"So what about you and Bonnie? And why didn't you tell me?" I say to lighten the mood laughing.

"Sorry I'm late." I say as I enter the Salvatore boarding house.

"Hey, I need you to put me down as a chaperone at the dance tonight. Klaus made his first move." Damon says the second I enter the room, like I am his PA or something.

"Okay, so we find him and then what, hmm? What's our plan of attack?" Elena asks no one in particular.

"Me. I'm the plan. He has no idea how much power I can channel. If you can find him, I can kill him." The Bennet witch says confidently.

"That's not going to be that easy. I mean, he is the biggest, baddest vampire around." I say to her to try and bring down her confidence, however I know she has no chance.

"Alaric has a point. I mean, what if he..." Damon says whilst rushing towards the Bennet witch, who throws him across the room without touching him.

"Well, I was impressed." Stefan says, I am not impressed, I have seen Maddox do better and he doesn't have power of 100 dead witches.

"It doesn't matter if he's an Original. I can take down anyone who comes at me. I can kill him, Elena. I know I can." Bonnie says with confidence even though I can hear the doubt behind her words.

Once finishing up at the Salvatore's I rush back to Alaric's apartment to tell Maddox of the Bennet witch's plans.

When I arrive back Katerina is still sitting in the same chair I left her in, her leg covered in blood.

"Ah, you're right. This witch is all juiced up and aiming to kill." I say to Katerina as I close the door.

"That's terrible." She replies to me with a sarcastic tone.

"We're gonna have to kill her, Maddox." I tell Maddox when I see him in the room, before going to have a look in the draws.

"Do you think this Alaric guy has anything vintage?" I question Maddox who is standing next to me now.

"Crossbows, wooden bullets and automatics? Who is this guy, again?" I say as I look under his shirts and find a cover on top of the weapons.

"He's the local vampire hunter." Katerina tells me with a snarky tone.

"Ahh. Well, that explains the clothing. Katerina I do have a question to ask you though, how did you forget to mention their is two doppelgängers" I ask her as Maddox hands me a glass of bourbon.

"All I could find. Guy likes his bourbon." Maddox says handing me a glass.

"I knew there was something about him I liked. There's a high school dance and I'm gonna need you to take out witch bitch." I say to Maddox before returning my attention to Katerina. " An answer please." I ask her.

She stares at me in complete and utter confusion "There is only one doppelgänger" she tells me with honesty and I drop the subject for now.

I return my attention to Maddox "If she has that much power, she can sense me coming from a mile away. I won't be able to get near her. You have to do it." He tells me with no explanation on how.

"In this body? I'm a haggard history teacher. She can easily hurt me. I mean, not me, Klaus me, but you know what I mean." I question him angrily, as I notice Katerina listening in.

"No witch could handle channeling that much power. It'll kill her. It would kill me. You just have to make her use it." Maddox tells me confidently.

"You mean like provoking her to death?" I ask Maddox questionably.

"Won't take long. Just keep attacking her until it kills her. His body, Alaric's, will last longer than hers will." Maddox tells me giving me instructions to follow.

"How? He's human." I ask him confused in how Alaric's body will last a witch attack.
