"Fine" he says.

"Thank you" I say. "Let's play then!"

"Y/n you can bat" benny gives me the bat.

"Thank you" I say

Smalls throw to second!" I yell. I bat the ball to him. He catches it and throws it to yeah yeah. We all play for a few hours. It starts getting late and we all head home.

"What does your brother think of you playing with us?" Benny asks.

I wanted to tell him that jordan didn't know but I didn't want benny to make a big deal about it. So I lied.

"He doesn't really care" I feel a bit guilty but it's a bit late now.

"Oh okay" Benny says. "see you tomorrow"

"Bye benny!" I walk into my house.

A few weeks pass and I become very close with all of the boys and we're all great friends. Me and benny especially. There was something about him that made me like him so much. If he didn't play with the sandlot boys, I probably wouldn't have been so desperate to join. I enjoy his company. He only thinks of us as friends so I don't really like to think about it. Jordan still doesn't know I've been playing baseball at the sandlot every day, I knew he was stupid anyway.

I wake up and check the time. 7:50. I get dressed and walk to the sandlot. It's awfully hot today so I'm not as excited to play baseball as usual. When I get there I see them all sitting in the dugout. I walk over to them. They are all sitting in distress.

"Y/n we need your opinion" ham says.

"Okay." I say

"Benny wants to stay here and play baseball but we all think it's too hot and we should go to the pool" he says. "What do you think we should do?"

They all look at me.

"Sorry benny but I'd have to agree with them on this one." I say

They all cheer. Benny looks annoyed. I ruffle his hair which makes him smile.

We all meet at the pool. I go into the changing rooms and get changed. When I come out, the boys are already changed and are waiting for me. When I come out, there eyes widen and they look at me in shock. I laugh to myself and jump into the water. They all follow. We're playing about in the water when I notice Wendy giving me dirty looks. I don't think much of it and carry on what I was doing. We all notice that squints is looking at Wendy.

"Aw, man." Says benny. I look at him but look away the second after.

"Yeah, yeah. Too cool." Yeah yeah agrees.

"She don't know what she's doing." Says Timmy.

"She don't know what she's doing."

"Yeah, she does." Says benny "She knows exactly what she's doing." I look at him again with a bit more shock. I shouldn't be jealous of Wendy, he just thinks she's pretty nothing more. He looks at me and notices the way Im looking at him. "Don't worry" he says, giving me a subtle wink. What does he mean by don't worry. Im confused but I don't say anything else.

"I've swum here every summer of my adult life." Complains squints "And every summer, there she is, lotioning, oiling, oiling, lotioning. Smiling. Smiling! I can't take this no more!" He pushes past us. "Move!"

"What's wrong with him?" I ask.

"What's he doing?" Says yeah yeah.

"Three summers of this. I think he finally snapped." Says ham.

"I don't know. But that's the deep end, and Squints can't swim." Bertram points out

Squints jumps of the diving board.

"Somebody help him!"

"Squints!"

"Somebody help him!"

"Come on!"

Wendy dives in and brings him to the side of the pool

"Move back. Move back." She says

"Okay, I got him. I got him."

"Come on up, Wendy." The other lifeguard helps her up. "Everybody move back. Move back. Roll him over."

"Never mind! Never mind!" Wendy gives him mouth to mouth

"Come on, Squints."

"Come on, Squints."

"Come on!"

"Squints!"

"Come on, Squints. Squints."

"Come on, Squints. Come on."

"Wake up."

"Come on, breathe, would you?"

"Come on, Squints! You can do it! Pull through, bud!"

"Come on, man! Come on!"

"Yeah, yeah. He looks pretty crappy."

"Squints! Come on, man."

"Oh, God, he looks like a dead fish."

Squints opens his eyes and smirks at us.

"What?" We all say in Unison.

Wendy goes to do mouth and mouth and but before she pulls away, squints grabs the back of her head and kisses her.

Little pervert!" She yells

"Oh, man, he's in deep shit." Says Timmy.

She drags him out and we all follow. We grab our stuff and run home.
