Third POV

Volturi Castle, Volteraa

Marcus was taking a round around the castle, deep in thoughts. Thoughts of a certain lady who had captured his heart a few centuries ago. A lady who had to die a brutal death.

A sigh escaped Marcus as he thought of that day. The image of his love's dead body was vivid in his eyes. The way those beautifully pale skin had turned to a sickly paleness.

He remembered the hug bite mark on her neck. The bite was the reason of her death. Aro had promised him that he would find that werewolf and have him tortured for his deeds and he had, indeed, fulfilled his promise.

But nothing could've helped feel Marcus better. No one can ever heal the empty place in Marcus' heart. His train of thoughts were broken by someone colliding into him from behind.

Marcus was quick to around to find a petite lady sitting on her ass, rubbing her head. "Can't you see," she said softly, looking up at the tall king.

Marcus froze in his track, forgetting his apology as he stared in the eyes of the lady. "Didyme?" Marcus whispered, confused how a lady who died centuries ago is in front of him in flesh and blood.

The lady stood up, visibly panicked after realising whom she collided into. "I apologise, Your Majesty. I wasn't seeing where I was walking," she said.

"Didyme?" Marcus whispered again. The lady looked up, confused. "I am not Didyme. My name is Aphrodite," The lady introduced herself.

Marcus bottom lip trembled as he top a step forward, reaching out to caress the lady's cheek to make himself believe that she is real and not a game of his mind.

Aphrodite leaned into Marcus' touch just like a moth to fire. Marcus gazed into the lady's red eyes, he could feel that feeling; the butterflies in the stomach, the curiosity of the teen love. It wasn't new to Marcus but he wanted to explore it again.

"You are... you are my..." Aphrodite didn't had the courage to complete the sentence. She couldn't believe it at all. "Mate."

It sealed the faith of the couple. Marcus could see the wary look on Aphrodite's face. "I know you don't want this, but we are destined," Marcus said, his eyes filled with hope.

"I..." Aphrodite knew that this particular decision will seal her faith. She was completely aware of Volturi's ways. She remember the brutal stories of how the great Volturi ripped apart the Romanians like they were not the most powerful coven but some rag dolls.

"You need not to make the decision right away," Marcus said, caressing her cheek in a soothing way. Aphrodite shook her head in a no. It was a now or never situation for her.

"I know that this will change my life and the way I live," she started, gathering all the confidence she can. "But I have stayed alone for far too long and..."

"And I don't want to be like that anymore. But I am also aware of the ways, the Volturi mates are kept..."

If Marcus' heart could beat, it would have been racing right now. Marcus was slowing loosing all the hopes, thinking of the worst of worst scenarios.

"I will..."

Silence is what followed the two words. The two seconds were like a eternity for Marcus and then, finally, came the unexpected answer.

"Stay."
