The fourth quarter of my very first varsity high school pre season game was quickly coming to an end.

Frustration was written all over my face as I looked at the score board from the bench, where I had been sitting all game.

The last two practices before this game I did great, better than the third year starter but I was still second string.

The clock ran down to four minutes exactly and Coach finally called my name. I slipped on my helmet and ran to him.

"Yeah?" I asked as I approached him.

"Ok kid, you're gonna get two passing plays and then the rest you're just gonna run the clock down, ok?" He remarked.

I looked at the scoreboard and then back at Coach. "But we're only down by a touchdown and a two point conversion to win. Why don't you wanna score?" I asked because I was throughly confused.

He patted my shoulder pad, "Eh, no sweat it's only a preseason game. Just go out there and have some fun." He told me the first play I was going to run and then I trotted out to the field.

As I ran out I couldn't help but think about what he had just said. I could do this, I could win this game for us. But if I went rogue and we didn't win, I would pay.

"...have some fun."

I was going to have fun but I was going to do it with a win.
