"Callahan!"
Coach yelled my last name and I sprinted to him.
"Yeah Coach?" I asked as I adjusted my helmet and looked at him.
"Ready for the next rep?" He looked at me. I had been sitting on the sideline at practice for the past two weeks watching and now he wanted me in. My heart kind of skipped a beat but this was my chance and I had to take advantage of it.
I nodded and he smiled a little as he turned the playbook towards me, pointing at a play.
"Try the fake to receiver A first," he said then pointed at another "X" on the paper in front of me. "...then hit Jones coming off the curl, he should be wide open."
"Yes Coach." I turned and ran out towards the rest of the first string waiting for instructions in the huddle on the field.
I approached and stuck my head into the huddle.
"9-17 Curl. Ready break," I broke the huddle and everyone rushed to their spots.
I took my mouth piece from my face mask and placed it into my mouth as I approached the center. I carefully studied the defense and watched as both of the corners weren't giving very much space standing in front of our two receivers.
Man to man. I thought.
Then I looked at the linebackers. Two in the middle, showing a small blitz.
I got into my stance under center.
"Four fourteen! Set! Hut!" I yelled as the ball was shoved into my hands and I quickly took three steps back, ball placed by my ear.
Everything felt like it was moving in slow motion, I could see and recognize everything in front of me so clearly.
I turned to my left and saw Receiver A, Gould, strongly being covered by the corner. Which was what was expected. I quickly flicked my eyes to the linebackers in front of me and they had both faked the blitz and had now sunk back a little to help cover the receivers. I looked back at Gould and hard faked the throw towards him. The linebackers shifted. I saw them shift and turned to me right as I saw Jones breaking wide open.

Every defender had either bitten or had gotten distracted by my fake.
Jones turned into his curl back down. I ran a little to my right and flung the ball towards him. Right as he got towards the end of his curl, the ball hit him right in his hands.
He tucked the ball, turned, and ran up the sideline -- trotting into the end zone.
Coach blew his whistle.
"Great work guys! Callahan, come here."
I smiled a little as I ran towards him. I could feel the adrenaline pumping through my veins.
"Good work kid. Here's the next one," he said, turning the playbook towards me.
I did it. I just did it.

Midnight Origins: Arrival
On a lush planet known as Bhar, Verun is now the leading nation in the development of the rivaled schools of Magic and Science. Having brought forth an era of peace and prosperity for themselves through the development of Magitech, The High council was eager to spread their knowledge and beliefs to the furthest reaches of the continent, with the goal of ending senseless conflicts and prioritizing advancements in Magitech and improving the quality of life. This ambition, however, is not without opposition. Most followers side with one school or another, believing it is superior in nature. This conflict dates back to the very beginning of civilization itself, where it is believed by both sides that their gods descended from the heavens, bestowing upon them the knowledge that would bring the world into a new age. And though some took great interest in their differences, others would seek to convert each other through any means necessary. That being the case, The High council, leaders of Verun, had made the necessary preparations to handle threats and attempt diplomacy between the remaining opposers. Talented volunteers were hand chosen to be among the military, tasked with protecting the nation from both internal and external threats. And although non-biological creations have improved quality of life, they are not yet capable of replacing the military.
