Chapter Five

The next time I came to, my arm was attached to a long chain that hooked to the wall. My head swiveled around to survey the area; I was in a large white room, with a large, darkened glass window across from where I sat.

A table stood in the middle of the room, and on the other side sat Nicholas and Xander, both wearing smug smirks.

The chain was tight against my arm. I struggled to readjust it, and almost toppled over in my flimsy plastic chair.

"This is the second time we've had to knock you out; three strikes and you're out. We don't want that, now do we, Cupcake?" Nicholas said, joking in his tone. But I could feel some maliciousness behind his smile and tone.

"Well, they do say the third time's a charm. But you won't get me for a third time, I'll escape before you can." I said with equal hostility behind my smirk.

"Yeah, because that obviously worked last time." Xander stated with a glower. Before I could even reply, he stood up and walked out.

"God, I swear, he's worse than a PMSing teenager." Nicholas shook his head, watching Xander leave.

"Why would you try to escape?" Nicholas asked, bringing his attention to me, "Xan was already stressed about the kiss."

I ignored his question, taking a shot in the dark on my next words.

"Nicholas, are you gay?"

Before Nicholas had a chance to deny the question, his face went dead pale, giving himself away immediately.

"I knew it!"

"W- what? I'm not--I'm not gay. Pfft, I don't even know what that is. In fact, I have the mind of an innocent little twelve year old. Don't even know what homosexual means." He stuttered, not looking me in the eye.

I rolled my eyes.

"I'm not going to tell anyone, since you're obviously a closet gay." I smiled at him, but he just shook his head.

"You don't understand, no one can know," Nicholas stood up and began pacing, "And I'm not gay. I'm bi. I like boys and girls." He winked at me at the last statement.

Xander twisted the knob of the door and waltzed in, carrying a tray. As I looked at it, I realized it was filled with dog food.

"What the hell?" I asked, anger seeping into my voice.

"I was treating you perfectly well, and you still tried to escape," Xander began, shaking his head, "From now on things are going to be different. Since you acted like a bitch, you're going to eat like one, too."

"You can't expect me to eat this." I stated in a dead tone.

"You don't have to eat that," he said, causing my ears to perk up, "You can always starve."

He took a seat at the table across from the cell, before retaining eye contact.

"Seriously? I know you're not that cruel." I pouted, giving my best puppy dog eyes.

"How about this? You tell me where your father is and I will give you anything that you want to eat." He bargained, crossing his arms over his chest causing his muscles to bulge.

"Screw you." I mimicked his actions.

"I'd love it if you did," smirked Xander, leaning back in his chair. He rested his hands behind his head, tapping his fingers.

I glared daggers at him for a moment before turning my head to face the wall. Don't judge, the wounded puppy trick works sometimes. Okay well, almost never, but that's beside the point.

Xander's chair scraped across the floor as he stood and moved towards me. I felt the calloused skin of his palm against my cheek as he roughly gripped my chin and turned my face towards his.

"Maybe you should show a little bit more respect to the people who are holding you captive, yes? Doesn't that seem like a smart and reasonable thing to do, considering the circumstances?" he hissed, digging his nails into my flesh.

Tilting my head back, I spat in his face. It didn't have quite the desired effect as my stomach growled angrily in support. I couldn't help thinking what he might taste like grilled with barbecue sauce.

I licked my lips at the thought of food (no matter how rotten it probably was). He saw me do it. Xander's face clouded in confusion, and he stepped back.

"Alright, alright," Xander muttered. He turned away to rub his eyes in frustration. "We need to get back on track of this."

I flinched when he leaned his arms against the back of my chair. His face was merely inches from mine. "Now, be a good little girl and tell me where your pap is."

"I don't know." I smirked, watching as anger flashed in his eyes.

"Ah, not even a little bit," Nicholas chimed in from behind.

Xander flashed him a grimace. "We really got to crack down on this. C'mon, little girl, tell me." He leaned in closer. "We must know."

I pretended to rake my brain for any thoughts of where my father could be. After a moment, I shook my head in deliberation. "Eh. No idea."

He slammed his fist against my chair, growling through clenched teeth. My chair shook from the assault. I flinched as he pulled away and walked off.

As he waltzed towards the door, Xander motioned for Nicholas to follow along.

"I'll let you stew in here and think about how much of a bitch you're being, baby," Xander muttered with a scowl. He shut the lights off before slamming the door, leaving me in complete darkness.

"Shit."
