"Gi-hun!" I called out seeing the players enter the dormitory.
But he looked quite...pale...
"Uhm... gi-hun? Are you okay?" I asked walking up to him.
"Y/n... your still alive?"
"Yeah of course i am! They just called me an outcast and left me here..." i replied, "but say... you dont look well... is anything the matter?"
He looked to the ground.
Sang-woo appeared behind him shortly after.
"Its... its complicated y/n... ali and 001 their..."
I glanced up at the board... 17 players remaining...
"What do you mean? Dont tell me their..."
"Im sorry y/n, their gone"
I only stared at him in disbelieve.
"T-thats impossible! No, ali wouldnt get himself killed that easily-"
"The game required only one of the pairs of two to win" gi-hun interrupted me.
"But... didnt you two...?"
"Y/n, there was no other way" sang-woo told me blatantly.
"What the hell do you mean 'no other way'? Are you trying to justify yourself for killing him?"
He paused looking off to the side.
'My friends... are dead... fuck, fuck, fuck... ali, grandpa... why the hell did you have to die..?!'
Before they could say anything i just walked off to the side.
I silently sat down next to sae-byeok, she didnt look well either...
I just sat there in silence... only daring to speak to her after at least 2 minutes...
"So... 240 is gone too..?"
She continued staring at the ground, but from the look on her face i predicted i was right...
I didnt know why but... i felt so empty... i somehow wanted to break out in tears but everything just boiled inside of me...
After a while dinner was handed out to us, i didnt eat anything though... i didnt feel hungry at all...

I glanced over at sae-byeok, she didnt seem to want to touch her food either... she just stared at it...
Gi-hun seemed to have lost his appetite just as much...
"Dont make a big deal out of it" i suddendly heard sang-woo speak.
"He was just an old man you met here"
He gestured at another guy, he was just sitting on his bed with an absolutely blank expression...
"See that man over there? His partner was his wife..."
'Wow... that must be rough...'
I paused, "they were still our friends, they helped us"
"We were told the rules from the very beginning, there was no going around it"
I looked away, "i suppose your right... im sorry for being so insensitive"
"Its fine y/n, you cared about ali, your reaction was only natural"
I nodded slightly.
Suddendly the man sang-woo had gestured at stood up at front.
"Lets end this. I cant do this anymore"
"We can stop if the majority just agrees" he seemed to break down.
I picked at my food in silence, watching the scene unfold.
"If just nine of us agree, we can get out of here"
"Doesnt anyone want to leave?"
"If you wish to leave with me, please stand up"
He looked around helplessly, i just stayed silent..
'I already sacrificed so much... and i tried everything... what does it even matter now? Ill die here, i dont care anymore'
"How could you call yourselves human?!"
"You really want to continue with this insanity?"
"Because of that money?!" He screamed.
"You just killed the person you were closest to in this place-"
"But werent you in this too?" I cut him off.
"You were okay with people dying too, until it was someone you knew. All these people here had familys and futures, but as long as it isnt about you, your okay with it. You had the chance to leave like all of us did too. But now you call us inhuman? Arent you just as inhuman then? Stop screaming... your giving me a headache..."

"You dont care because you didnt have to participate!" He screamed at me.
"I do fucking care you idiot. I made friends that are dead now. But i dont call others inhuman, they did what they had to do, its as easy at that. If i leave ill die outside anyway"
"Yeah, and if you leave?" Sang-woo walked towards him.
"You think your wife will come back to life?"
"You think youll be forgiven for killing her?"
"If this is so painful, why did you come back alive?"
He grabbed his shoulders harshly, "you shouldve died instead of her"
He pointed upwards, "see that? Thats the price of being in here. Its the cost of everyone who died here. You want to just leave that behind?!"
'Shut up... all the screaming... is making me forget about them more and more... until... i can only remember their faces...'
"You want to leave and start from rock bottom?"
"Only to live a shitty life, with all this shitty guilt in our hearts?"
He let go of him finally
"Are you all ready to live like that?!"
"If you can, then go ahead and stand up!"
"Get up and leave this place!"
I stared at my hands, twirling my thumbs around each other...
"Shut up... your not proving anything... your annoying me... why is everything so god damn annoying...?! im losing them... their leaving my memory..." i muttered under my breath as i grit my teeth.
As the lights turned off i could only stare into space...
'Is there really a god out there..? Why would he help people pass exams or get over a cold...? When there are people like us whos lifes depend on a goddamn number? How many of us pray to god every day...? until they get killed off...'
I buried my face in my hands...
'If one person beats the odds and survives- among the thousands of others who die... then its suddendly a miracle of god...'
'This world is so fucking unfair... its ridiculous...'
'If i died... maybe ali could have survived... then maybe he could be with his family... he had more to live for than me... i only have the scumbag that i call a father... he had a kid and a wife... their still waiting for him to come back home... will they think he left them..?'
'This is... it... i dont have much to come back to anymore... so what if my father dies? Did he ever truly care about me..? The other people here have more that they need to keep going for... theres nothing left for me...'

In Range
A young, talented, and aspiring archer makes his way to the Olympic Archery Qualifiers; however an accident prevents him from ever making it. An accident which took the final years of his adolescence, his dream of ever becoming an Olympic Gold Archer, and most importantly someone who meant the world to him. Rehabilitating for a year in a hospital, the despair and dread of being alone and having nothing left worth living for finally got to him. Finding his way to the rooftop, he decided fall, but where he expected death, something else appeared; a blue message. A chill and simple LitRPG story that I just wanted to write. Note: I write with the Dark Theme setting, so if I make a colour mistake it’s probably why. I also strangely prefer using the Imperial System to measure Height, while I use the Metric System for almost everything else (Canadian by the way).
