《The Last Lycan Alpha King》Chapter 23

Rosalie's POV.
"I don't know what that creature was but it's dangerous." I told Charlie.
"I'm sorry but I have to tell Dash about this." She told me.
Before I could respond Penelope, Angelo and Shaun stormed in.
"You're alive!" Shaun beamed pulling me into a bone crushing hug.
"Yeah." I got out of his arms not wanting to be touched.
"I'm glad you're here." Penelope tried to hug me but I took a step back making her halt in her action, I could tell she felt hurt but I could care less at this point.
"Are you fine?" Angelo took in my dirty/bloody form.
"Like you care." I retorted and he sighed.
"I think you need a checkup." Shaun told me but I shook my head.
"I don't need a checkup I just need my friend to be ok that's it." I demanded.
"Ok, calm down." He told me.
"Don't tell me to calm down." I scoffed.
After a few minutes Charlie returned with Dash behind her. Closing the door everyone took a seat except me.
"Rose-"
"It's Rosalie." I corrected Penelope who was about to say something.
"Rosalie." She took a deep breath obviously trying to hold back her tears. "At least take a seat."
"I don't want to." I snapped. "Can we just get to the point."
"She says her friend was attacked by an unknown creature." Charlie told everyone.
"What does it look like?" Shaun asked.
"Like a human but with crimson eyes and fangs and smells like a vampire/witch hybrid." I told them.
"Did you try giving her an antidote for vampire/witch hybrid bites?" Angelo asked.
"Yeah, didn't work."
"Are you sure you mixed it right?"
"Yeah, 100%" I sighed.
"Maybe you just didn't know what it was." Penelope spoke.
"That's exactly why I'm here."
"What do you want?" Dash finally spoke not daring to meet my gaze.
"I want Charlie to help me find a cure and know what the fuck attacked Martha." I spoke in monotone.

"Why here." His eyes bore into mine.
"If had anywhere else this would be the last fucking place I'd come." I snarled.
"How sure are we your "friend" isn't dangerous or better yet a creature like the one you claim not to know?" He challenged.
"Because she's not and she was fucking attacked." I snapped.
"Why was she attacked, why not you."
"You fucking bastard!" I snapped. He was trying to get to me and I was letting him.
"Better yet how do we even know what creature this is-"
"I have samples of it in the car, I'll show you." I left the office with Shaun behind me.
"Hey." He held my hand and I flinched.
"What." I sighed opening the boot.
"Don't let him get to you." He said and helped me get the containers out of the car into Charlie's office.
"This thing looks huge." Charlie gasped at the pictures I had taken of it.
"How did you manage to kill it?" Shaun looked at me then the picture.
"I ripped his out to of his chest." I spoke glaring at Dash who for the first time I actually felt like I could kill the same way I did the creature.
"You're kidding." Everyone gasped.
"No, now do you by any chance know what it is?"
"No, but I'll have it taken to the lab for evaluation." She stated.
"I can't wait that long, she'll die." I run a hand through my head. "You have to have another way please."
"There's no other way." She sighed "unless" her gaze fell on Dash.
"Alpha blood."
I felt powerless at this point, knowing fully well that he wasn't going to help me, this bastard enjoyed seeing me suffer.
"Fuck."
Powerless I walked out of the office and dragged myself to Martha's bedside. Her body was attached to IVs and one hand had a drip of blood while the other had water.
Seeing her almost lifeless broke my heart. I couldn't hold back my tears anymore, taking her hand in mine I cried.

"I'm sorry." I kept repeating.
"We need to examine her." Jake told me but I didn't bother moving.
"Rosalie, I need to examine her again." He tried to pull me off.
"It's pointless, let me have the little time I have left!" I yelled as tears rolled down my cheeks like a waterfall.
"He still needs to examine her." Shaun pulled me away and dragged me out of the room.
Unable to stop crying, I sat on the cold floor wrapped my arms around myself and cried like never before.
"Mummy." The small voice I had missed so much called.
Looking up I saw my son staring down at me.
"Baby." I pulled him into my arms and hugged him tightly.
"I missed you." He hugged me back and those simple words made me cry even more. He said he missed me not that he hated me but he missed me.
"I missed you too." My voice broke.
After finally pulling myself together I wiped my tears away.
"Are you ok" Cage asked tracing my swollen knuckles.
"I'm fine, just extremely tired." I confessed.
"Come, let's go home then." He got up offering his little hand.
"I can't baby, aunty Mars is in there and I can't leave her alone."
"Why, what happened?" He frowned going into the room where she was laying.
"She was attacked by an unknown creature." I explained following him.
"Is she going to be ok?" He turned to me with his big eyes welling with tears.
"Yeah, she's going to be ok." Shaun gave his and my shoulder a gentle squeeze. "She's in safe hands."
"I hope so." He took a deep breath, turned to me and took my hand into his. "Why are your knuckles swollen?"
He gently traced my now purple knuckles that were taking more time to heal than they should have.
"I took down the monster that attacked her."
"Let aunty Char take a look and clean them up."
I refused at first but he kept insisting till I agreed. Charlie cleaned and bandaged them up swiftly.
"I managed to come up with a tonic that would help her, she's got 2 days tops." She told me.
"Ok." I pulled my left hand out of her grip the second she finished with it.
"We can find a way to-"
"It's ok." I stopped her knowing exactly what she would say. "I'll figure it out myself."
Getting up I made my way back to Martha's room where Cage was seated with his small hand on hers. Due no having any knowledge on the creature and it's poisonous bite she had been isolated so they could do more research.
"Hey." I pulled him close to me.
"Hey." His voice barely audible indicating he was sad.
"She's going to be just fine baby." I spoke while holding his face in my hands. "She's a fighter and that filthy bite can't put her down, and if she were here she sure as hell would have smacked your head straight for even opting to worry or cry."
Noticing his face was still low I kissed his face till he begun to laugh.
"I missed you so much mummy." He hugged me. "Please don't leave me ever again."
"I won't my baby." I placed a kiss in his now overly curly hair.
"Pinky swear." He lifted his little picky as he stared into my eyes.
"Pinky swear." I linked my pinky with his and we both smiled.
At this moment I made myself and my son a promise, come what may absolutely nothing and no one was ever going to separate me from my son.
I was so overwhelmed with joy at sweet moment my son and I were sharing I never noticed someone enter the room till...
"Daddy!" Cage jumped out of my arms running to his father.

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
