《Atrocities // Joshler》29

Josh was sitting on the couch, humming to himself as he ate an apple. Unsurprisingly, Supernatural was playing. He was starting to understand it, but he still had no idea why Sam and Dean were arguing in that moment.

The door opened and Brendon walked through, looking solemn. Tyler trailed in behind him, shuffling his feet. He had a black eye and bruises all over his wrists and neck. Josh instantly shot up and ran to him, prepared to ask him what was wrong. As he approached, though, Tyler didn't even look at him. He just walked straight by and into his bedroom.

Josh turned to Brendon. "What happened to him?"

Brendon shook his head. "I don't- he just called me, and I found him sitting on the side of the road like that. Josh, there's hickeys on his neck, and he doesn't seem like the kind of guy to cheat."

Josh's eyes widened. "You don't think he was-"

Brendon interrupted him. "It's a possibility that he have to be prepared for. Just, right now... he needs space. He definitely needs physical space. Try talking to him, though."

Josh nodded, still in shock. "I just- why would someone do that?"

"It's just a worse-case scenario," Brendon said. "Ask him what happened, okay?"

As Josh watched his friend go, he was still frozen. He stared at the door, where Brendon had just been. He couldn't believe what was happening.

He slowly made his way to Tyler's room. He gently knocked on the door, surprised when it pushed open under his light tap. He stood in the doorway and studied Tyler, who was sitting on the floor, his back to the wall. He was staring at nothing, and he looked completely empty. He looked dead. The only sign that he wasn't was he shaky breathing and slight trembling.

Josh sat across from him, making sure to keep at least a foot of distance between them. "Hey, Ty. You wanna tell me what happened? It's okay if you don't."

Tyler didn't reply. He didn't even seem to notice Josh's presence. Josh took a deep breath and looked at the floor, hating the tears that were gathering in his eyes. He had to be strong. For Tyler.

"You can tell me," he whispered, trying to hide the shakiness in his voice. "Please tell me."

Tyler's eyes shifted to his, and the simple action made Josh want to cry. Tyler's lip trembled and he dropped his head just as the tears began to fall.

Josh wanted to hug him. He wanted to hold him and tell him it was okay, but he didn't. He stayed perfectly still, ignoring the the cool streaks running down his cheeks.

Tyler's shoulders were shaking. Josh could hear his erratic breathing, and each sob that Tyler let out felt like another knife to his chest.

Josh wasn't struggling to find words. "Ty, please," he begged, his voice giving away the secret that he was crying.

Tyler pulled his knees tighter to his chest and shook his head. He looked so small; so hurt. Josh hated it.

Josh wiped his eyes and steadied his breathing. "Tyler, you can tell me."

Tyler was crying so hard that, for a moment, Josh thought he was having a panic attack. He instinctively leant forward, his arm outstretched, before quickly pulling away. He clenched his fist, frustrated at the difficulty of the situation, and wanting to murder whoever had hurt Tyler.

"Eddie," Tyler whimpered between sobs. "It was Eddie."

Josh raised his eyebrows. "Who's Eddie?"

Tyler looked up but avoided Josh's eyes. "My ex."

Josh was confused for a second, but a realisation soon hit him like a bus. Tyler's abusive ex. The one that he had told him about, that he had dated when he was younger.

Josh pushed down his anger. "What did he do to you?"

Tyler held back a sob and exhaled shakily. "He didn't- he didn't rape me."

Josh visibly relaxed. He nodded, extremely relieved. His anger was spiked again, though, when Tyler continued.

"But he tried to."

Josh clenched his fists, his fingernails digging into his palms. He exhaled slowly. "I'm gonna be completely honest. I am so angry right now that I have no idea what to say."

Tyler chuckled dryly, but he didn't smile. "It's fine. He didn't- he didn't hurt me that bad. I'm sorry, I'm being dramatic."

Josh scoffed. "Dramatic? Trust me, you're being anything but dramatic. I am- gee willy, I am mad. Where does Eddie live? I just wanna talk."

Tyler sighed. "You can't do anything, Josh. Eddie... he doesn't see that what he did is bad. He's sick."

Josh narrowed his eyes. "Tyler, he tried to-" he cut himself off, unable to say the words. "I'm sorry. Just... what do you need?"

"I don't know," Tyler whispered.

Josh inspected his face. "Do you want an ice pack?"

Tyler gingerly raised his hand to his face, wincing when his fingertips made contact with the bruise. He nodded.

Josh stood up and practically bolted to the freeze. Since Tyler's last concussion incident, he had decided to stock it with ice packs. He got one out and wrapped it in a small towel. He walked back to Tyler's room an handed it to the boy.

Tyler lifted it to his cheek. The cold stung, but he didn't mind. He needed the pain in that moment- it was like a grounding tool. It told him that he was still alive, that Eddie hadn't killed him.

"Do you wanna watched Supernatural?" Josh asked, earning the smallest smile from Tyler.

"Yeah," Tyler replied. "I'd love that."
