《Forever》Part 5: Children

Shuri ascended the hill first, Asira and Aneka were close behind her, with Idie bringing up the rear. The mood was different when they arrived before Mistress Zola. They had no head or body to present, but that was expected, they were fighting a hard light hologram after all.

The crowd sat silently, and an even more severe look was plastered on Zola's face.

"What happened?" asked Zola

A cheeky grin cut into Shuri's cheek.

"Why do you look surprised Zola? We destroyed your little owl and we are here for your congratulations."

"Our energy readings picked up a spike during your hunt. A spike that cannot be explained by the equipment we gave you and we saw smoke. How did you start that fire?"

"Would you believe me if I said we rubbed two sticks together?"

"Shuri!"

"Okay okay" said Shuri, as everyone leaned in to hear her explanation. "Last time I checked, tradition dictates what happens during the initiation stays there. Isn't that the point of this whole thing? Pairing members of different tribes together in a life and death situation that requires teamwork, in order to build bonds of friendship that will last forever?"

"Unless someone is suspected of cheating," added Zola. "And I suspect you. Explain the energy spike and the fire or I will have no choice but to disqualify your entire team."

"Woah woah, no need for that, Zola."

Shuri glanced at her team one more time. Idie still had her tear filled eyes firmly planted on the ground. Aneka and Asira looked beaten and bloody, but they stood resolute. They had already agreed; they would keep Idie's secret. She was family now, and Wakandans never betray their family. Regardless of whether it meant they would all fail their initiation or not, they would stand with Idie.

"I cheated!" said Shuri.

Gasps shot through the crowd.

"Yeah. My team didn't know about it, But I brought this," said Shuri as she lifted the small pen-like device in front of Zola.

"What is this?"

"That's above your intellectual capacity Zola. If I tried to explain it that would just lead to more questions which would lead to-"

"Enough! No more talking. You have said more than enough. Princess or not, you have admitted to cheating during a ceremonial initiation. Disgracing your family, your tribe and your entire nation. Not only are you a disgrace Shuri, but you spit in the faces of the rest of you team. You are not a woman of Wakanda. You're still a child, and you will remain that way until you complete this right of passage the right way. I will be recommending that you not be allowed to retake the initiation for 24 months. You can use that time to reflect on what you have done here today."

"Yes ma'am," said Shuri as she began to walk away from the field.

"No! you don't just walk away. First apologize to your team mates for disrespecting them. Then you sit here and support the rest of the teams that still need to go. Sit right at the back; I can't even stand to look at you right now. You make me sick, and you better believe your brother will be hearing about this."

Shuri approached Asira first. "I'm sorry for-"

"Come on Shuri," interrupted Asira. "You don't need to do all this."

"Nah, I do."

"I guess that's why you're our little princess," said Asira chuckling as a tear escaped from the corner of her eye.

"Hey! When I'm queen I'll remember that."

"So will we."

Shuri then moved to Aneka.

"I'm sorry."

"Can I hug you?" asked Aneka as she wiped the tracks from her cheeks.

"Not right now, Zola's still watching, we need to sell this."

"Okay, but next time I see you its attack hug on sight. You hear me, on sight!"

Shuri moved over to Idie.

"Sorry Idie."

"I don't know what to say?"

"Nothing needs to be said. I'm just repaying the favor."

"What was that thing?"

"Oh this?" said shuri as the lifted the device. "Oh this is my greatest invention, check it out." Shuri lifted the cap revealing a ball point pen. "And if I press this button," as Shuri pressed it a small blue light emanated from the back of the pen. "I call it the pen torch."

Idie started chucking slightly although tears were still streaming down her face.

"Yo, you're going to blow our story, you're supposed to be mad at me right now."

"I don't think I could ever be mad at you again my princess."

"yeah yeah-"

"And my friend," added Idie.

"Yeah? we're friends now?"

"Forever."
