It was a brightsunny morning inWillow Creek California. It was the end of summerand it was already time to go back to school. Well not for Conner Bailey but for his girlfriend, Bree.Bree decided to get her masters degree, and Conner didn't want to live with his parents for a year away from Bree, so he decided to go with her. Conner decided not to get his masters, because he wanted to work on a special project. Something he had forgotten to finish 12 years ago.
Conner got up from bed, and got his luggage all packed, and went downstairs. He noticed that his stepdad Bob was already gone, but his mom was in the kitchen making coffee.
"Good morning Conner." Charlotte said.
"Morning mom." Conner said going into the kitchen and giving her a hug.
"So when's your flight back to New York?"
"In an hour. Bree should be here in a minute."
"I still can't believe you didn't want to get your masters as well. I think it would be good for you." Charlotte said handing Conner a cup of coffee.
"I don't think so Mom. Besides it's already too late, and I know what I'm going to be doing this year."
"What?"
"I'm going to write my first book. Well attempt it."
"Really?! What is it going to be about?" Charlotte asked sipping her coffee.
"About the adventures I had with Alex in the Land of Stories. I think kids would want to read about our crazy life."
"I think so as well. I'm so proud of you for doing that!" Charlotte said and grabbed a piece of paper from the counter. "Oh yes and here is the address for your apartment."
"Mom, you and Ms. Campbell did not have to buy us an apartment!" Conner said taking the sheet of paper.

"We wanted too, besides we only paid the down payment. The rent is your responsibility."
"Thanks mom, and don't worry I'll get a job."
"Or if you finish that book fast enough you'll have millions, and you can buy a bigger apartment...with extra room for kids maybe."
"Mom, we're getting married when Bree finishes school. No kids yet."
"I know, I'm just saying for later."
Conner looked at his watch. "I wonder where Bree is. We have to catch a plane in an hour."
A few blocks away was the Campbells house. Bree was tearing her room apart, looking for the beautiful gold watch that Conner had given her the night before.
"WHERE IS IT!" Bree yelled has she took her sheets off.
"Oh my God! What is going on in here?" Her younger sister said coming into the room.
"Conner gave me a gold watch yesterday for our anniversary and I lost it!" Bree said looking under her bed. Bree's mom came into her room, and was instantly confused.
"Bree, you lose something?" Her mom said.
"Yes!" Bree said standing up. "Conner gave me a watch yesterday and I have no idea where it is."
"Bree, I'm sorry. Listen, you have a flight to catch. If I find it I'll send it to you."
"Ok, thanks mom." Bree said. "I have to pick up Conner. Thanks again for getting Conner and I an apartment, and don't worry we're going to get jobs as soon as possible."
"Great, and maybe after college...maybe marriage and grandchildren?" Bree's mom said and smiled.
"Mom stop rushing things. I know marriage will be right after college, but I don't...I don't know about children. That will be awhile from now." Bree said. "Bye mom."

"Bye baby." Her mom said and hugged her. "I'm so proud of you. I'll see you in a few months."
"I'll see you then." Bree said. "Bye, oh and be sure to send me the watch if you find it."
......................
After Bree had picked up Conner, and the long airplane ride to New York. Bree and Conner were soon in the John F. Kennedy International Airport. Bree and Conner got their car, and drove all the way to their new apartment building. They drove up to it and it was a beautiful building. It was white and salmon colored, and it was surrounded by cute little shops and restaurants.
"Wow our moms must have spent a fortune on this apartment." Conner said.
"Oh gosh, I hope not." Bree said. "Conner I don't know. Should I get my masters?"
"Bree, of course you should! Your so smart, and I'm positive that if you do get your masters your going to do something amazing."
"Really, you think so?"
"Of course I do." Conner said and kissed her.
"Thanks Conner. Let's go see our home for the next few years."
Bree and Conner parked, got their luggage and went up to their apartment. Once they got inside, they were mortified. Food and other stains were splattered all over the walls, the windows were broken, and the carpet was stained. Then, a man in a tank top and shorts with a huge backpack on his back came out of the kitchen.
"Oh hi, you must be the new people living here. I'm just moving out." The man said. "You two married?"
"Uhh, no. We're dating. Were you the last person who was living here?" Conner asked.
"Um, sort of. Just don't tell your landlord I was here." The man said. "Oh yeah and if a guy named Antonio knocks on the door, don't tell him you saw me. Well, see ya."
The man pushed passed them and ran down the hall, leaving Conner and Bree even more mortified. They closed the door behind them and set down their bags.
"I feel like we should call the police." Bree said.
"How can the building look so nice from the outside, and have an apartment like this?"
"Come on, it's not that bad. We just have to get paint, carpet cleaner, new blinds, some bright curtains and some new furniture. We can turn this into a great place to live." Bree said. "And look there's the university right down the block, there's a coffee shop, a sandwich shop, and a pizza place. It's perfect."
"I guess so. I'm just glad I'm with you." Conner said and smiled at Bree.
"And I'm glad I'm with you...because I would not want to stay in this apartment alone." Bree said and laughed. "Also because, I love you."
"I love you too." Conner said and kissed her.
"I have to go to orientation right now. I'll meet you at the pizza place at 12." Bree said.
"Ok, in the mean time I'll go shopping for the things we need." Conner said.
"Great. I'll see you later."

Dear Spellbook (Link to rewrite in blurb)
A rewrite of this story has been posted here: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/49881/dear-spellbook-a-fantasy-time-loop-rewrite Live. Study. Repeat. Tal is a sorcerer in a world where they are killed on sight, traveling with a man charged with carrying out the task. Every night Tal must pretend to study his spellbook to maintain his disguise as a Wizard’s Apprentice. If his disguise slips and his charade is uncovered, it will be his death. Seeking answers to mysteries that arose after his parent’s murder, Tal must accept any allies, no matter the risks, to uncover his family’s secret. But when he wakes up one morning to find himself trapped repeating the same day, he has to overcome his challenges all on his own. This story is an adaptation of a D&D campaign I ran but never was able to complete. I tried to capture the feel of a table-top RPG session —tropes and humor— without relying on the mechanics. This is not a litRPG or gamelit story and no D&D mechanics or system appear in the game. It follows one member of an adventuring party as he deals with the problems with that arise from being an adventurer. Namely, getting roped into adventures. The story has a time loop element, but will eventually move past that. This story explores the magic systems, the history, and the lore of the world through the lens of Tal's entries in his Spellbook and interludes from other written works in the world. New entries on Mondays Credit to JackOfHearts for the cover.
8 175Good Guy Necromancer
Necromancers are murderous, repulsive, utterly ungodly creatures. And then there's Jerry. Jerry is a novice necromancer who treats his undead warmly, seeks to befriend people instead of harvest their bodies, and doesn't mind cracking a skull or two when needed. He genuinely is a good guy—too bad nobody believes him. Jerry tries to settle down, wanting nothing but a peaceful life for him and his undead—and, when that doesn't quite work out, he sets out to adventure. He will make friends, each unique in their own way, and together, they will travel through a variety of striking environments; from a tiny village, to the land of the dead, to a jolly archipelago, to a kingdom on a beanstalk. To save a world that shuns him, Jerry must stand against a large organization of arrogant, mighty wizards. He strives to become stronger while maintaining his kindness, only to realize that, maybe, gentle hearts make the greatest necromancers. This is the story of a delightful man in a harsh world—full of warmth, action, and wise-cracking bone puns. Chapters are usually 2-3k words, and updates are 3/week: Mon, Wed, Fri. If you're looking for another fun, action-packed adventure, check out Cultivator vs. System by yours truly, available on Kindle, KU, and Audible. But read Good Guy Necromancer first.
