《Everything Inbetween Bones [BxB] ✓》Chapter 20

A/N: Okay, so I had the motivation to write another chapter and now you have been granted the gift of two chapters in two days. I know, I'm a little bit weirded out too, but I started it last night after having two cups of dr. pepper and just started writing. I've been getting into Ricky Montgomery lately, so take this song. Also, don't worry, this is nowhere near finished yet, but I've had another story in the works since probably chapter 10 or 11, I was just wondering if everyone really liked the 'Introductions' chapter with faceclaims for the cast and if I should keep that for the next one, and also, if everyone likes the whole thing I've got going on with the songs. if you guys do, I'll keep it for the next one. Anyways, hope everyone likes this chapter and have a fantabulous day.
Logan sat on his bed in his room playing with the hem of his light green sweater, staring at his fingers as they fiddled with the fabric. He could hear the distant chatter and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas playing loudly downstairs. He wasn't much for parties, and it was mostly family friends and business associates, he only had one pair of grandparents that still wanted anything to do with his dads and they'd left early, he had a few cousins that couldn't make it, and an aunt and uncle that were somewhere downstairs. It wasn't like he didn't want to see them, he just wasn't much one for crowds, his dads were okay with that, they'd only asked that he be down for a bit to greet his relatives and have some food and he did. He'd had a cookie (113), a salad (500), and a few bites of chicken (150?) and he'd talked to his grandparents, his aunt and uncle, and three other of his dad's friends who he didn't really know but it didn't hurt to say hi. After that, he'd retreated into his room and had been sitting there ever since.
He and Sy had been dating for a week, and it was fine, he just didn't know how to feel, he didn't really feel actually, after the excitement had worn down, he'd gone right back to the painfully numb feeling that was taking over his life, the emptiness that he could never seem to be able to shake. He sat for a while, taking out his sketchbook and roughly drawing a boy stuck in a bubble filling with water. He was erasing excess lines and starting on detailing when he heard a knock at his bedroom door, closing his sketchbook quickly before getting up to answer it. Oliver.
"You showed up." Logan said with a small smile and Oliver grinned.
"Yeah, why are you up here all alone? It's Christmas Eve." He said and Logan shrugged a little.
"Guess I'm not much one for holidays." He said.
"Wanna go somewhere?"
"Where?"
"Somewhere." Oliver said, keeping the location secret on purpose. Logan smiled, nodding.
"Okay."
---
His dads had been fine with him leaving, only telling him to be safe and get home before 12. It was only 9, so they had a few hours before they'd need to head back.
Oliver drove them out to what looked like an opening into the woods, it was dark so he couldn't quite tell, but maybe a hiking trail.

"Alright, be honest, have you secretly been a serial killer this whole time and now you're luring me out into the woods to kill me?" Logan asked with a grin and Oliver chuckled.
"Well according to you, I'm an edgy teen satanist and I'm running a bit late so I had to grab the sacrifice on the go, and I mean, you're not my first pick, but you'll do." He said and Logan giggled.
"Who's your first pick?" Logan asked, getting out and walking into the woods with Oliver
"Well I could tell you..but then I'd have to kill you."
"I though you were already going to do that?"
"If I told you, I'd have to make your death significantly more painful."
"Why? isn't the point of killing me in that scenario just to get rid of me?"
"Stop poking holes in my threats, I don't want to kill you, but I'm also not going to freely give out my hit list, alright?"
"Fair enough." Logan said with a little smile.
They walked for a while, bantering back and forth about anything they could think of: Fashion, books, movies, if the ken dolls were gay or not, which they definitely were but Oliver didn't think so. It all continued on, them walking deeper into the forest before Oliver stopped, looking around for a minute before seeming to recognize something.
"Oh, come on, just this way."
"But it's off the path." Logan said and Oliver nodded.
"Yeah, but I know where I'm going, don't worry. Here, look, I've got a flashlight." Oliver said, taking out his phone and shining the light through the forest. "It's not too far anyways, and I've been here a million times, I could navigate it with my eyes closed." He said and Logan seemed a little skeptical but followed him anyways. He figured he'd followed Oliver this far, why not just keep trusting him?
"How was your Christmas Eve?" Logan asked and Oliver shrugged.
"It was alright, not the worst, I mean, we put up a few lights and traded presents, had some dinner."
"That doesn't sound so bad." Logan said softly.
"Sure beats having Christmas with my dad." Oliver said and Logan nodded.
"How's Judas?" Logan asked and there was a long pause, the only sound being leaves and sticks crunching.
"I..I really wanted to hate him at first, but he's not even the same person he was when we were kids, it's like he's my brother now, I just don't know how to feel about that..but he's doing good, he's got a job now and he's saving up for a car." Oliver said and Logan nodded with a little smile. "Oh, right through here." Oliver said, moving a branch and letting Logan walk through to the overlook, the dark sky filled with stars, the moon casting a gentle glow from the cliffside all the way down to the glistening lake.
"..woah." Logan whispered, looking around, not sure what to focus his eyes on, it was all so much to look at and take in.
"I know." Oliver said with a grin, looking to Logan who looked back at him with a smile.
"How did you find this?" Logan asked and Oliver chuckled, scratching the back of his neck.

"Long story short: I got drunk and mad, punched a couple of trees, then got lost, and somehow, I stumbled upon this place." He said with a shrug and Logan laughed softly as Oliver starting laughing again.
"That's crazy." Logan said, sitting down, looking over the edge of the cliff at the water below.
"It's kinda just..my place now I guess, I haven't ever seen anyone else come this way, so it's a secret as far as I know." Oliver said and Logan laid down, looking up at the stars.
"God, you got me this and I didn't get you anything for Christmas? Even if I did, how could anything compare?"
"You don't have to worry about getting me anything." Oliver said, laying down next to him in the grass and Logan sighed softly.
"Remember when I used to want to be an astronaut?" Logan asked, his voice soft.
"Yeah, when we built that cardboard spaceship out of the cardboard box for your fridge, that shit was epic." Oliver said and Logan giggled.
"I miss it." Logan said in a whisper, wanting to cry but holding it in as he stared up at the sky.
"Which part?"
"All of it."
They sat in silence for a long time, taking in the stars, Logan wished it could last forever, but he knew it wouldn't.
"Are you okay?" Oliver asked softly and Logan didn't talk for a minute, thoughts swirling around his head as he sat in the dark, the world seeming to vanish around them.
"I don't know." He answered honestly, his voice cracking as if he were about to start crying. Oliver reached over to take his hand and he let him, lacing their fingers together. It didn't feel romantic, it wasn't supposed to, and neither one was about to make it weird because the truth of the matter is, sometimes you just need someone to hold your hand and tell you that maybe you don't have a clue where your life is going or where it's going to start or how it's going to end, but neither do they, and neither does anyone else.
"If the world ends right now, I'll never have to grow up and file taxes." Oliver said softly and Logan broke into a smile, then laughing quietly.
"Is that really what scares you most about adulthood?"
"You're not taking into account how bad I am at math."
"Alright, if the world ends tonight, I'll never have to study for finals again." Logan said.
"If the world ends tonight, I'll never have to watch Elf again in Mrs. Quinn's class." Oliver said and Logan giggled.
"If the world ends tonight, I'll never have to get a job."
"If the world ends tonight, I'll never have to see my dad again."
And just like that, a new game was formed, something that would probably become an inside joke or a secret memory held between the two of them or a tradition. It went on for another hour, conversation scattered in between responses until the game faded away and it was just their quiet bits of dialogue exchanged between long silences.
"We should get going, your dads will be expecting you home soon." Oliver said and Logan nodded a little, yawning softly, getting up.
"Yeah, you're right." Logan said. "..Can we come back here again sometime?"
"Yeah, why not?"
"I don't know..it's your place, I feel like I need permission to see it again." Logan said with a small smile.
"It's not my place anymore, it's our place now." Oliver said as if it were obvious and Logan smiled at that, at the idea of having something with Oliver that was so beautiful and so secret and just theirs, a tiny corner of the world that nobody could touch.
"Thank you." Logan said softly, walking back through the path with him.
---
They were halfway home when Logan got a phone call, expecting it to be one of his dads considering it was already almost midnight. He smiled a little when he realized it was Sy, picking it up.
"Hey." Logan said, glancing over to Oliver, then looking out the window.
"Hey Loggy, how's your night going?"
"Pretty good, what's up?"
"I just wanted to say Merry Christmas considering it is officially Christmas morning...now." Sy said and Logan giggled softly, watching the lit-up digital clock in Oliver's car change from 11:59 to 12:00 am.
"Merry Christmas." Logan said, running his fingers through his hair.
"How was the party?"
"Pretty good, I left a bit early though so I don't know what they're doing now, I'm sure they're cleaning up."
"Wasn't it at your house?"
"Yeah, but Oliver came over and we went out for a hike."
"In the dark?"
"Yeah."
"Alone?"
"..mhm."
"Logan."
"What?" Logan asked and Syrus sighed on the other line.
"I just..I don't know, it's weird how much you guys hang out, it makes me nervous."
"Why?"
"I don't know, it's just weird."
"What if we go out somewhere tomorrow?"
"That might possibly make up for it, how about lunch?"
"Could we also go to the crafts store? I need to pick up some paints."
"Yeah, of course, we could just go to the mall, it's got everything and we won't have to argue over where to eat." Sy suggested. They had a bit of a problem deciding on where to get food because Logan didn't like fast food and refused to even step foot in anywhere with a hint of grease, Syrus didn't like salad places, so they could never agree, but the mall had both.
"Yeah, sounds good. I'll see ya tomorrow." Logan said, ending the call.
"So it's going well with Syrus then." Oliver said and Logan nodded, though really, it wasn't any easier than when it'd started.
"Yeah, it's great." Logan said, making it sound true enough.
"That's good, I'm glad you're happy with him." Oliver said, smiling a little.
"I really can't believe you don't have a boyfriend yet, you know how many people would kill to date you?"
"I don't think you realize that you're the only person who isn't afraid of me."
"I can't be the only one, and I'm going to find you a boyfriend." Logan said with a smile and Oliver smiled, chuckling softly.
"Alright, whatever you say." Oliver said, pulling into Logan's driveway. "Merry Christmas, Bear."
"Merry Christmas, Oli." He said, getting out, a smile on his face. "Drive safe."
"I will."
