《{ enchanted forest }》16. { the miller's daughter }

The awfully shot arrow zooves into the bushes, at least four feet away from the original target and crooked. The girl curses the shot, throwing the bow on the grassy ground. She was never going to be an archer, she was really just terrible at it. With a smile dancing around her lips she remembers her brother trying to teach a little eight year old girl to fence, then defensive swordfighting and some archer classes. In all she failed miserably.
She was really just good at being a nice, pretty pink princess and nothing else.
"Not having a good day, are you?" Winter, still caught up in her thought process, jumps up and scans her surroundings. She sees him standing between the trees, holding the arrow she just shot off with a grin plastered on his face. "What are you doing here Peter," she asks him.
"You have been gone from the camp for quite some time." He walks up to her from between the woods and sees more arrows sticking out from the ground. "Not having any luck?" Peter hands her the arrow, which she quickly takes from his hand. "That stupid bow won't do what I want," she sighs.
Peter gives her a playful grin. "Well, laying like that on the ground it surely won't do a thing." He picks the bow up from the ground and gives it to Winter. "Try again, let me guide you." "But it's useless," Winter groans and she lowers the bow. "My brother has already tried teaching me, my father's best archer has tried but no one has succeeded." "They aren't me and Peter Pan never fails," he says.
He goes to stand by her side and leans in to her ear. "Raise the bow and let me guide you," Peter whispers. Though she wasn't excited about it, she raises the bow to the right position. Peter goes to stand behind her and takes her arms, putting them in a position that her shoulderblades almost touch and her back was straight. She was holding the arrow between index finger and middle finger, her thumb almost touching the corner of her mouth.
"Now.. close your eyes," he breathes into her ear. Winter frowns a little at that. "Shouldn't I look to where I need the arrow to go?" His chuckle fills her ears and makes a shiver run over her body. "You trust me, don't you?" "Of course I do, Peter, I just don't see the point," she says.
"Close your eyes and listen to me."
Winter closes her eyelids and releases a deep sigh. With her eyes closed she can focus more on what he's saying. "Feel the power of your bow. How strong is your grip, how far do you need to pull the string.. It is more than just skill, it is instinct. Now.. does it feel right to shoot the arrow now," Peter murmurs, his lips touching her earlobe as he speaks. Slowly the girl nods her head.

"Yes.." "Then.. shoot." Smoothly, Winter lets go off the arrow and it zooves through the air. A few seconds later she hears it hit something. Peter tells her to open her eyes and when she does, she sees that it hit bullseye.
"Wow.." She couldn't bring out anything else, she was that shocked. He murmurs into her ear, his hands resting on her hips as he stands with his front glued to her back.
"Great job."
The Jolly Roger sears through the air, having Baelfire and his son standing at the steering wheel and sending it to Storybrooke. In the bedroom of the sailors on board there is Rumplestiltskin, laying on one of the beds, and Emma questions him about the power of his dagger and what it could do to them. She promises him to save him as he was family now, but he was still skeptical.
In Storybrooke Cora and Regina find out about the poisoned Dark One from a phone tap session between Prince Charming and Snow White. The former miller's daughter sees the letters on the dagger slowly disappearing, which means he is dying. She decides then and there to kill the Dark One herself to become that so she can be powerful and the immense power won't go up in smoke.
Not more than an hour later the ship sails into Storybrooke's harbor, where the people on board are welcomed by Mary Margaret and David. Ruby and Neal help Mr Gold walk and David takes it over from the girl. Henry walks by their side and tells how his father taught him to drive a ship. Mary Margaret, still upset about the truth of her mother's passing and the desire for revenge, tells them that Cora has to be stopped once and for all. David didn't exactly agree and they held a whispering conversation about it.
Henry was sent off with Ruby to stay over at Mr Gold's house so he could 'spend some time' with Winter while the others go to Mr Gold's shop and cast a protection spell there. Ruby takes Emma's arm. "In case he will ask about it once he feels better: she's fine. Still asleep in her bedroom, hasn't moved a finger. We still, you know, bathed her and cleaned her up every so often, but nothing extraordinairy. He does need to check out that spell he cast, because sometimes.. it's beeping like crazy and nothing's there."
"Okay, I will. Stay close to Henry and we'll fix this," the blonde promises and she takes off with the others while Red takes the boy to see his favourite girl. The good guys bring Mr Gold to his shop and drag him through, accompanied by lots of groaning in pain. He tells Emma to find a pot in his shop that is seemingly empty while the others continue dragging him to the back, where his office is.

Between all the shiny stuff, the empty glass pot was quite easy to be found. Just as Neal and David drop Mr Gold on a couch Emma returns with the pot. She tells him that there's nothing in it and wants to shake for proof, but then she hears a tinkling sound. According to Gold it was Invisible Chalk and needed to draw a line before the door so it would protect the building.
Rumplestiltskin, as selfish as he sometimes, well, very often, can be, asks Snow White to grab him a warmer blanket out of the cabinet, knowing what she would find. While others were searching for weapons to protect themselves with, it was easy to use the princess's ill intentions for his own use. Save his own life and kill Cora in the process, a good win-win situation for them and the little dark spot in Snow White knows it.
In the meanwhile Neal and Emma were, of course, having an awkward conversation and luckily David was there to break it up. Emma went back to the office, where she breaks up the dark conversation between her mother and her son's grandfather. He teaches her how to use the protection spell.
The barrier gets tested by the mother and daughter team while Snow White sneaks out to find Regina's vault and so Cora's heart, so she can curse it with the candle. At one point the fight in Mr Gold's shop turns ugly for the two attackers: Emma has Regina, ready to stab her, and Neal has the dagger. An excellent way to show Regina how much her mother really cares for her. Of course Cora chose the dagger.
Emma shoves Regina into her mother so that they both tumble over a table and fall on the ground. In that time she and Neal retreat to Rumplestiltskin's office and she draws again a line with the chalk and so protects them. Once Cora feels that someone is taking her heart, she tells Regina to go back to her vault while she will continue her attack on the shop.
While Snow White curses Cora's heart with the 'life-and-death' candle, David and Emma notice that she's gone. Cora continues to test the barrier, which was weakening with every minute. Rumplestiltskin did not beat around the bush and tells them he will die, which Baelfire denies. He asks Emma to give him her phone so he could call Belle.
As he is on the phone, Emma curtly tells his son who this 'Belle' is. Rumplestiltskin was there, laying on his supposed deathbed, pouring out his heart in front of the two of them. After his last thank you, he hangs up. The estranged father and son shared a moment in which it seems like they forgive each other and it makes Emma uncomfortable to stand there and listen.
Silence falls between them as they hold hands tightly and Emma sees it as her chance to bring in something. The blonde sits down on a chair. "As you believe you will.. die," she looks carefully at the two, but none of them stop her from speaking. "Ruby talked to me when we arrived. She said.. that everything's alright with Winter. Just that.. the barrier made some strange sounds when there was no one around and that you might want to get that fixed."
Emma tries to lighten the mood by pulling it off as a joke, but her words stiffen Mr Gold. "That they can't see anything doesn't mean there's nothing. I know what it is and if I'm right.. she's in grave danger." He tries to pull himself up, but he gives up his fetal attempt when it causes him unimaginable pain. Gold grabs Emma's hand and his eyes are filled with fire.
"You have to strenghten the spell so nothing strange can come close to her. Promise me, Miss Swan." Emma, still a bit confused by his sudden change in behaviour, promises it. And at that exact same moment, far from the shop, Snow White tries to convince Regina about putting her mother's heart back inside her chest. She knows that Regina wants nothing more but her mother's love and that putting the heart back would kill Cora, but she did it anyways.
Now they both won't have a mother left in this wicked world.
The last letters were fading away on the dagger and Cora was about to get through when David found his wife and found out what she did. Cora transported Emma and Neal out of the shop. Just when she was about to kill Rumplestiltskin, she was stoppd by the heart that was put back inside hsr body. Just as Cora finally started showing love she couldn't feel before, she died in Regina's arms and Rumplestiltskin returned on his feet.
At that moment, Snow White ran inside and screamed, but she was too late. It had already happened: Cora was dead and Regina now knows it was her fault.
