《Mrs. Maximoff》Twenty-two

"So, I finally get to meet Ari?" Morgan wiggled their eyebrows at me, joking.
"Yeah, but don't give me any of that teasing tone, she's my colleague and friend." I told them while I finished doing touch-ups for my makeup.
"Y/N, are you aware that you're going together to a party, a halloween party? Honestly, that's my kind of love declaration." They said, getting lost in thoughts, probably thinking about what would happen to them if they were in my situation.
"Earth to Morgan? Oh, come on!"
"What? I just really want to have matching costumes with someone!"
"Really. We literally had matching costumes last year." I told them, sounding rather annoyed.
"I was a bottle of mayonnaise, it wasn't fun."
"But we were matching!" I almost screamed and dropped my arms.
In my defense, it was very last minute and the mayonnaise and ketchup costumes were the only ones I could find.
"You and Ari are literally going as Johnny and Mavis. Johnny and Mavis! They have a child together!" Morgan stated.
"Ari suggested it, I couldn't say no to her! What kind of friend would I be?"
Morgan looked at me as if they couldn't believe what I just said, but I really couldn't tell why.
"She suggested it? And you're actually this oblivious?"
"...Yes?"
"Johnny and Mavis are a couple. THE couple. The couple that made kids and twenty-year-old me believe in love. You don't get it?"
"What am I supposed to get?"
"You really were dropped on your head as a kid, weren't you? I'll have to ask Rose about this." They said ready to walk away into the bathroom, but I stopped them.
"What aren't I getting?"
Morgan sighed before answering. Damn, was it really that bad?
"Jules told me how Ari is, she says that she looks quite...interested in you. If you put that and the fact that she asked you to dress up as a couple together, well...I think that she likes you, but I could be wrong."

Ari? Interested in me? No, absolutely not. It can't be.
"What? No...no. Ari isn't interested in me, we just have a lot in common, that's it. Maybe she wanted to do something fun with the costumes, that's all."
"Yeah, okay, if you think so then I agree with you. Sorry about that."
"It's okay."
"You do look great in that soccer team jersey though."
"Aw, spare the compliments for your girlfriend."
"Whatever, I was just trying to be nice here."
We both finished getting ready and then reached Stewart downstairs.
"Stew-Stew! How are you doing?" He didn't even bother to complain, he knew I was never going to stop.
"I'm okay, Y/N. What about you and Morgan?" He asked, always in his unique Stewart way. Extra politely.
"We're fine!"
"What she said!" Morgan exclaimed. "Stewart?"
"Yes, Morgan?"
"Could we pick someone up before going to the party?" They asked.
They weren't...
"Sure, no problem."
"You're seriously making Jules and Stewart meet like this?!" I hit their shoulder, earning a glare from them.
"I never said..."
I stared at them and they immediately knew I wasn't going to get fooled.
"Fine, okay. She just needed a ride because her car broke."
"I can't believe this! Best. Night. Ever!"
"Yeah, yeah...what about Ari? Does she need a ride too?" That made me shut up.
"...She's fine."
"Um, I'm sorry to interrupt but I need the address." Stewart told us and we excused ourselves for not giving it to him sooner, but as always, he said that it was okay.
"Stewart, you're about to meet Morgan's girlfriend! And before you even say it, I don't care if you're officially dating or not, you two are in love and that's all I care about."
Morgan didn't even argue, so I was happy with my little speech.
"Sure..." They replied weakly.

"Well, all I hope for is that you're happy in this relationship, Morgan."
"I am."
"That's all that matters." Stewart said and looked at me through the tiny mirror inside the car, I knew what he meant, and I nodded at him so he knew I understood where he was going with those words.
Once we picked Jules up we were ready to go to the party, but not before I teased the two lovebirds sitting right next to me.
When we got there I immediately went in after saying goodbye to Stewart, looking for Ari who texted me she was already there.
I looked around for a bit and spotted her talking with Pepper.
"Y/N, honey, here you are!" Pep smiled at me and we both went in for a hug.
"Here I am! So, you've already met Ari, huh? You like our matching costumes?" I asked her getting close to Ari and posing, making both women laugh.
"Ohhh, you're that one couple from the animated movie Morgan forced me to watch a couple of years ago! You look adorable!" Pepper winked at us.
Oh no...
"Well, I'll leave you two alone. Y/N, do you know where Morgan is? They left her room a complete mess, oh are they going to hear from me!"
"They were just outside with Jules, Pep." She nodded me thank you and walked away.
"So, we apparently look adorable..." Ari started. I felt her hands go on my waist, and as much as I didn't want to enjoy how close she was being, I strangely did.
Maybe I just needed some kind of affection, I was sure it was nothing.
"We do! This costume is comfortable!" I exclaimed and watched her laugh. She took my hand and we both walked to get ourselves some drinks.
Because of the many people in the room we couldn't quite figure out where we could do that, it took us a couple of minutes to find the spot, but when I saw who was there, I wish we never had.
"Oh, look, Mrs. Maximoff is here, should we say hi?" Ari's voice got me out of my train of thoughts, and not knowing what to say, I just nodded at her.
She was just our boss.
"Good evening, Mrs. Maximoff, we're pleased to see you!" How did she always keep her voice so kind?
"Oh, hello Ari!" She said, sounding quite excited, but her tone dropped flat when she saw me. "Y/N."
"Mrs. Maximoff."
"Nice costumes you have there, are you two matching?" She questioned us, I knew that voice too well.
It was the same one she used the night of the fundraiser. She wanted to tease me, but not before getting on my nerves.
Why was she doing that?
She cut me off completely, it was her who decided it. Why act like this?
Maybe it was all in my head, but I talked to Wanda, I kind of got to know her, I knew how to recognize some of her little details.
"They are actually! We're Johnny and Mavis from Hotel Transylvania!"
"Cute." Her voice was still flat. If she really wanted to get on my nerves, she was succeeding. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go talk to Mr. Stark, have a good night."
"You too, Mrs. Maximoff!" We said, Ari sounded way more excited than me, I just said it because I would have looked rude if I didn't.
"Such a bitch." The woman beside me hissed when our boss was nowhere to be seen anymore.
I wanted to agree with her because of what I experienced, but something was stopping me.
I hated how she still had an impact on me, I hated it so much.
