《Mrs. Maximoff》Twenty-one

After I went to the Stark mansion to talk with Morgan, I ended up staying there for a couple of days.

Morgan and I easily could've gone back to our apartment, but staying in their room brought back some good memories we had from all the time we spent up there, so that was why we decided to stay.

Going back to work wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, mostly because she barely leaves her office and I'm surrounded by people who are actually fun to be around.

Jules and I have been chatting with some of the other new journalists and we were kind of surprised when we found out how many things in common we had.

Out of everyone, the person I clicked with the most was Ari.

Jules kept saying she didn't like her vibe very much, but I thought she was fine, even great.

She was bubbly, kind and a badass when she wanted to, basically a little bit of everything.

During the past few days we started talking more and more, to the point were we go get lunch together during our break or ride the same bus home.

I loved that I was finally able to open up with the other people around me at work, don't get me wrong, Jules quickly became one of my best friends and I absolutely adore her, but it's nice to feel yourself getting comfortable around new people.

"Okay squad, who's ready for lunch break?" Richard shouted from across the room as soon as the clock hit 1pm.

He was the loud one.

"I think we all are!" Ari responded and got up from her seat which was just in front of mine. "Honestly, we have so much to write about and I'm exhausted! Can't Mrs. Maximoff go easy on us for a bit? We're still getting used to this!"

When she mentioned her name I felt my cheeks burning red, but I tried to compose myself so that no one would notice.

Except Jules.

Jules always notices everything and I have no clue on how she does it.

Ari didn't know about whatever it was that happened between Mrs. Maximoff and I, if something even actually happened, and I had no plans that included telling her.

Like she said the last time we spoke, it isn't professional, so it's better to just keep it between us.

As if it never happened.

"Y/N! Same table as always?" Ari's voice interrupted my train of thoughts, and when I was out of my trance I saw her standing in front of me.

Ari was undeniably a beautiful woman: she had long blonde hair and big hazel eyes. She wasn't very tall, but that was one of the features that I liked about her.

"You know it!" I told her as we headed downstairs to the cafeteria which was crowded like always, but we still managed to find a few tables were we could get settled for lunch.

"So, how's that article going? From the draft you gave me it's probably going on the front page in a matter of days!"

A couple of days ago, Ari showed me a draft of an article she had started writing about some of the biggest problems in the world at the moment, and the way her words were so delicate but strong at the same time amazed me, not wonder why she got the job.

She was probably one of the few that didn't run out of her office, all the others either got lucky or survived the madness that the woman is.

"It's...going. I'm taking my time with this one, speaking about these topics is a serious matter and if you don't use the right words for it, well, you're kinda screwed." She explained. "And also, it's hard when some of these topics speak about who you are. It's taken me time to process my feelings while writing about how us women don't have control over our fucking bodies anymore, or about all the people who have to live in countries where there's a war, people that get killed just because cisgender straight white males in power see themselves as superior over them, because white supremacy is a thing and it's fucking disgusting. Sometimes it can be hard to even think in the slightest about these situations, so I've been taking time."

I liked how she cared, and if people were more like her, the world would be a better place.

"It's gonna be what everyone needs to read, trust me, I can tell by the way you speak about all of this."

"I really care, and I don't get why other people don't, I don't understand this world."

I was about to respond as we were sitting at our usual table, when Jules ran toward us and took a seat next to me.

"Yeah, sure, do whatever you want."

"Morgan told me to tell you that there is going to be a Halloween party at the Stark mansion tomorrow night, you can bring whoever you want, if you know what I mean." Jules wiggled her eyebrows, smirking at me. I knew what she meant by that, but it could come off so wrong in front of Ari.

"Yeah...I don't."

"Ohhhh, Y/N has a crush?" Ari was quick to ask.

Oh boy.

"No, Jules is just an asshole." I told her as we watched the girl walk away.

I thought about what I wanted to say before actually doing it.

"It can't hurt anyone." I thought, and then got ready to speak.

"Ari?"

"Yeah?"

"Would you like to go to the party with me? It could be fun, you know. And plus, you get to meet Morgan." I suggested and saw her immediately nod at my words.

"I'd love to! And I honestly can't wait to meet Morgan, from what you've told me, they seem very fun."

"Yeah, totally not a pain in the ass."
