《Mrs. Maximoff》Seventeen

"Wanda, you look fine, really, stop worrying!" I almost yelled at the woman who kept looking at herself in the mirror over and over again.

"Are you sure?" She asked for probably what was the millionth time.

It was cute at first, she was worried about how she looked for her first conference as a CEO, but now? It has been like this for thirty minutes. If she kept this going on, we would be late.

"Wanda, for the I've lost count time, yes, I'm sure, you told me yourself to not lie to you. You look great!" I tried to sound as reassuring as I could, but Wanda kept looking at herself in the mirror, so I guessed it wasn't really working.

"Okay, okay. I can do this. I just have to lie to them."

"Hypocrite." I scolded her and she slapped my arm.

"Ouch!"

"That's what you get. Let's go, we can't be late!"

Is she serious right now?

"Seriously?! You were the one taking ages to get ready! And I'm usually that person!" I argued while we walked out of her room to the elevator which would take us downstairs.

"You'll understand when you become a CEO."

"With you as my boss? Probably never."

"Rude."

The elevator doors opened and we walked to the car, got in and in a matter of seconds, Wanda started driving to where the conference was taking place.

When we stopped at a red light I saw her tap her fingers on the steering wheel.

"Why are you so nervous? You're gonna do amazing, Wanda." I murmured, her fingers kept going faster and faster, the noise becoming obnoxious.

"You never know what to expect. With these rumors going around...I don't trust them."

"You don't have to, but you have to trust yourself."

"You know, you're great support."

"Ah, thank you."

The drive lasted for another twenty minutes, and when Wanda parked the car, I was kind of shocked at what I had in front of me.

Paparazzi were all over the entrance, waiting for her to come in. The noises of their cameras became so loud that I had to cover my ears, and the flashes so bright that I had to keep looking down.

"Wanda, is it true?"

"How come you got the job and not your brother?"

"Why weren't you at the funeral?"

"How is your mom?"

"Why were you made CEO out of nowhere?"

"Who is the girl with you? Is she your girlfriend?"

Their questions were always the same and kept making Wanda uncomfortable, I could see it by the way she kept tugging at her own shirt. I wanted to get closer to her, but I couldn't reach her because of all the people in between us.

I hated this.

I saw Wanda get in and I knew I had to do the same before I panicked.

"Sorry." I kept saying, hoping to pass through, and as difficult as it was, I eventually was able to.

I saw Wanda come up to me as soon as I was in, and she quickly took my hands into hers.

"I'm sorry, I can't do anything about them. Are you okay?" Her voice was low and soft all at once, and her touch made me feel okay with myself.

"Yeah, I'm okay. Let's go do this thing." Wanda nodded at me and we walked to the room where the conference was taking place.

When we entered it we saw the room was already filled with journalists, most of them were writing down things in their notebooks.

The thought that I could potentially become one of them one day didn't really appeal to me. If they really were how Wanda described them, then I was just going to stick to writing articles until I could fulfill my biggest dream.

We sat at the large table and that's when it started.

"Hello, good morning everyone." Wanda started, looking at everyone in the room.

"Before we start, this is one of the newest journalists of Oleg Resources, Y/N Y/L/N!" She smiled and suddenly everyone started clapping.

Weird.

"Hi, nice to meet you all." I shyly said, making everyone chuckle.

And then, the questions started.

"Mrs. Maximoff, how are you handling everything? It must be a hard time for you, we are all very sorry for your loss."

Wanda looked down before answering.

"I'm okay, my family and I have been trying to accept that he is in a better place now, a little sooner than expected, but we're doing our best."

"And how are you handling work?"

"Work is great. I'm still getting used to the whole being in charge thing, but having an amazing staff really has helped me." When she said that, she looked at me and smiled.

Oh my.

Everything was going okay, they didn't seem that bad until the fucking douchebags of the situation had to step in.

"Mrs. Maximoff, you and your journalist seem to be very close. Are you two more than just work partners?"

What. The. Fuck.

I could tell Wanda got uncomfortable once again, and so did I.

How do they even come up with that?

"What's up with the smiles and the holding hands from before?" He kept talking when he heard no response from us.

"I can assure you that Mrs. Maximoff and I are just work partners." I immediately looked at Wanda, expecting to see everything but her nodding at me.

Okay, she was fine with what I said, because it was the truth.

Then another one of them spoke up.

"Mrs. Maximoff, what can you tell us about the rumors that have been spreading?"

"I'm sorry, what?" Wanda tilted her head and looked the man straight in the eyes.

"Are the rumors true, Mrs. Maximoff?" He repeated.

"What's your name, sir?" She asked, and I was confused as to where she was going with this.

"Theo. Theo Bailey, Mrs. Maximoff."

Wanda let out a brief chuckle before responding.

"Well, Theo, if the rumors were true, do you think I'd be here now? Listening to you being nothing but nosy?" Wanda clenched her hands and kept talking. "My father had a stroke. He was completely healthy and still capable of working, it was shocking for us too. I don't get why people keep thinking I would do such a thing." She confessed, making everyone gasp at her words.

"And how do you explain not being at his funeral?"

He really had the nerve to keep talking?

"I wasn't a the funeral because his stupid staff was all up my ass with meetings and signing papers so that I could take his place as soon as possible. They didn't have one ounce of humanity, that's also why I fired all of them and hired new people. You happy now?" Wanda hissed and stormed out of the room, I tried to keep up with her but she was going too fast.

She walked outside and then into the car, not even looking at me.

"Wanda-"

"No, let's just go."

I felt shivers go through my body: were we back to square one?
