《Mrs. Maximoff》Sixteen

Wanda and I had just checked into our rooms who were in front of one another on the same floor.

We didn't have to do anything today since the conference was tomorrow, so we both agreed on settling down first.

I took everything I brought out of the suitcase and organized my things.

After that I was kind of tired, so I put on my pajamas and jumped on the bed, ready to take the biggest nap I ever took.

I didn't quite realize for how much I was out, because my sleep was interrupted by someone knocking, and as much as I didn't want to get up, I had to. I couldn't keep them waiting.

"Wanda." I kinda had to expect that she was on the other side of the door, but I wish she wasn't and that it was just room service or something like that. My hair was a mess and I had my pajamas on so that I could be more comfortable, and of course, she had to knock now.

"I'm sorry to wake you, I just wanted to tell you that I'm going out because I'm extremely bored and I no longer have emails to answer. You want to tag along?"

How could I turn her down when she was asking so nicely? I might never hear her be that nice ever again.

"I'd love to, I just need a few minutes so that I can change, is that okay with you?"

"Yeah, of course. I'll wait for you downstairs." She agreed and walked away.

I closed the door and immediately ran to the closet, I didn't bring too many clothes since we were just going to stay here for three days.

I could either put the clothes that I had on before or search for something new, and the last one seemed the best.

After spending way too many minutes that I actually should have looking at the closet, I settled on high-waisted jeans, a burgundy sweater and black boots.

I brushed my hair and decided to keep it down, it didn't look too bad.

I took my phone and sprinted down the stairs, where I found Wanda sitting on one of the sofas in the main room of the hotel.

"I didn't take too long, did I?"

"Twelve minutes, you're fine. Let's go, I rented a car." She grinned, showing me the keys.

We walked outside and were shocked at what my eyes just saw.

"You rented a Range Rover?! Are you crazy?"

"No, just rich."

"Okay, are you ever going to stop bragging about that?"

"Don't be a brat." There she was again. I knew that it wasn't as serious as the last time she told me, but it still sent shivers down my spine.

She got the aux chord (not before I protested a few times) and I noticed she put on the playlist from when she gave me a ride home because I recognized a few songs.

"So, where exactly are we going?"

"Just driving around, we'll stop if we see any places we like, is that okay with you?"

"It sounds perfect." I looked at her and she smiled at me.

She kept driving for about fifteen minutes before we both spotted a nice cafè, and to be honest, an iced coffee sounded very good at that moment.

Wanda parked the car right in front of it and we took a seat outside, waiting for someone to come and get our orders.

"So, I'm sorry if the question sounds dumb, I just never attended one before. What exactly happens at a conference?"

"Well, shitty journalists who do their job just because all they actually want to know is every detail about someone's life are all up my ass. That's it."

"Hey! I am a journalist!" I protested.

"You are a journalist because you like what comes with it, I've noticed that. Some people do it because they really just want to throw shit on everyone. Don't become one of them, Y/N."

"I'm offended you would think of something like that." I brought my hand to my forehead in a dramatic kind of way, making her laugh.

"I don't, I just warned you."

I just looked at her, taking in her beauty, wanting to get lost in it forever.

"Hello, what can I get you?" The high-pitched voice almost made me jump out of my seat.

We didn't have time to tell them, because they started looking at Wanda and their eyes were opened wide, and I saw the green-eyed woman do the same.

"Wanda?"

"Katherine? Oh my gosh!" Wanda got up from her seat and hugged the taller woman in front of her.

"It's been so many years! How are you? How are the boys?"

The boys?

"I'm okay, we're all doing fine. The boys are thriving, they've grown up so much!"

"How old are they now? I remember when they were just the cutest little babies!"

"They're ten now, they miss you a lot! I know you've been super busy with your new job, congrats on that, by the way! We were all very sorry about your father, though."

"Yeah, we all weren't expecting it, but we're trying to accept that it just happened, you know? And I can let you know whenever I can come to visit, I miss the boys too!"

"That would be amazing!" The lady exclaimed and then shifted her eyes to me. "Who is this lovely person with you?"

"Katherine, this is Y/N. She's one of my new journalists, I have a conference tomorrow and I was asked to bring someone from the new staff. She's one of the best."

"Nice to meet you." I held out my hand and Katherine shook it.

"Likewise. Enough of the chatter, I've already kept you waiting for a long time. What would you like?"

"I'll take an iced coffee, with coconut milk if available, please." I told her and she wrote it down.

"I'll have the same, just with regular milk. Thank you, Katherine."

"Okay then, it's on the house!" She smiled at us and left.

"So, the boys huh? Got any kids I don't know about?" I asked her jokingly.

"None that I know about! Katherine is a family friend, a couple of years ago when my mom decided that I needed to get my life together and therefore get a job, she got me to babysit Katherine's kids, twin boys. They were just four when I did, and they really were the cutest little babies ever."

Okay, that was adorable.

"That's amazing, but how did you tell them apart? You know, twins. I could never!"

"I'm a twin, so I guess that's why I didn't struggle, but also you start to tell them apart once you spend a lot of time with them, so it's not very hard."

"You are? I didn't know that!"

"I indeed am, I have a brother, his name is Pietro. He travels a lot so I don't see him as much as I'd like, but we're very close."

And that's when I realized that I knew something new about her, and that for the first time, she was the one to tell me.

It wasn't the rumors, it wasn't her friend or my colleagues.

It was her.
